  1. Not sure I can add much that hasn't been said about the programme per se. What I can say is I'm quite surprised about how many people have asked if I've watched GMRC (I've been 'outed' for so long around here that everyone knows my secret). The ones who ask, have at least watched some of it themselves, even to the extent of saying 'not so good this week' or 'best team won' so on a VERY subjective opinion I would say viewing numbers would be holding up for the series.
  2. Ae 6/6 11430 heads a mixed consist bound for Spiez through Muelenen 16Sep10. Note the diesel shunter on the rear for working in local yards along the route. More red
  3. The laws of physics dictate nothing of the kind. They simply dictate that hours of daylight will be different in different places. Choosing GMT or any other timezone is a matter for political/social choice. After all, we had different times in London and Bristol before the GWR because the midday sun is highest at different times in different places. Physics did not dictate that London time and Bristol time, but the practicalties were that it would be best to get them aligned. Whilst it may be preferable to align them, it's not physics. BTW if one or other time zone is preferable for animal husbandry then why don't we see cows and other livestock wearing watches? They manage ok by the sun, and if human workers really need to maximise whatever daylight they have, why not alter working practices to suit? You can't do this with all occupations but with eg farming there should be little problem.
  4. But even if they keep GMT sunrise isn't until 9am - ie dark for the morning rush-hour whatever time zone you're on. The Scots never seem to grasp the fact that northern Scotland is several hundred miles north of Cornwall and you can't change the laws of physics. As mentioned above, why not change your habits to suit the hours of daylight available, whatever the time zone?
  5. Apols if I've missed it buy one tip I try to remember is to take the needle out of my airbrush after each session. I have a couple of Iwatas and found that even if I thought I was being diligent, sometimes I'd miss something and the needle wouldn't necessarliy lock solid, but movement was jerky if I left the airbrush a couple of weeks or more - so the next session had to start with another cleaning session.
  6. The can says 'for use with cellulose paints'. After 12 days the coach in #1 with the light roof looks the same as it did after spraying. No hint of any adverse reaction so far.

  9. As mentioned above, this thread posts #6 and #11 http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/136836-stripping-down-a-Hornby-bso/ Prise the bogies off by inserting a screwdriver between top of bogie and the body. You should see 4 clear plastic clips which hold the glazing. Carefully ease these off (they can snap quite easily). Then carefully insert finger/thin card between coach body and underframe. It can be done!

  11. On weekdays the Rhymney branch is visited by DB locos based at Margam. On Sundays DB have sub-contracted to Colas who operate 3S59 circular from Bristol Barton Hill. 66.850 and 66.847 are seen at Bargoed last night 21Oct18. Not sure we've ever had the planned use of 2 different company locos on the same branch in the same season?

  18. I've started a thread on Painting Weathering and Transfers as there's a risk we are getting too far away from the bargains. I bought some yesterday thanks to the OP is this is the results on my trial with the primer. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/138482-poundland-grey-primer/
  19. Over on the Bargain Hunters thread there's discussion of Poundland grey primer. As I was close to Carmarthen Poundland yesterday I'd thought I'd give it a try. I hadn't noticed the OP said there was a choice of satin and matt so just picked up this one with the dark grey cap which turned out to be satin (though that mistake is easily remedied). Alhtough the cap is dark grey, the colour is much lighter, in fact quite a good representation of ex-works IMHO. In this pic you can see the can, a Hornby Railroad Mk1, and 2 Ian Kirk Gresley compartment coaches which I bought 2nd hand. They had both been finished in a mid grey something between the 2 colours you see here, but both in effect had the same undercoat for this trial. The darker roof is Railmatch roof dirt from a spray and the light one is Poundland grey primer which is much lighter than the cap. It certainly sprayed ok and gave good coverage and if you want this colour or want this as a primer then it's ok but it's nothing like the cap colour. I also found it very pungent. Be sure to spray outside or be very confident in your spraybooth/mask to absorb strong odours quickly.
