  1. Has anyone got a picture of a driving trailer underframe (maybe the Bachmann one)? Thanks
  2. No. I have done everything possible as regards maintenance. One thing I notice is that it is as if the magnet is too strong as I turn the motor armature by hand. Dave
  3. Roy- I cleaned everything carefully. 34- this loco is well used!
  4. Thanks for the new answers. F-unit- When I mentioned the working pressure I meant that if I set the compressor to 30 and let the tank fill the gauge drops when I start spraying. Johndon- I will give it another try at a lower pressure. Come to think of it before I had a compressor I used a car tyre and adapter and the brush did spray when the tyre was quite low on pressure towards the end of a session.
  5. There are plenty of people still fitting new parts to Morris Marinas! In the case of my class 25 I think you are correct.
  6. Thanks for the answers. I am careful with paint when spraying. I am going to have another crack at using acrylics. I have a Badger double action airbrush with a glass jar underneath so this needs a certain amount of pressure to work. The instructions say 30 psi. I set the gauge to this when the airbrush is not going but the actual working pressure is lower than this.
  7. I am still having problems with this loco. I completely stripped the motor, cleaned and lubricated it, etc, but it still won't start smoothly. I turn the controller up and it suddenly starts off but will then run slowly if I turn the controller down. What causes this? Maybe it is just too worn out. Maybe I will try a CD conversion on it. Back in the 70s I bought a brand new one and it was dead smooth at all speeds and made a just a light rustling sound as it ran.
  8. I just sprayed a bit of Railmatch yellow oil based paint with "Contains lead chromate" written on it along with a skull and crossbones. I was wearing a good mask but why does it have to be so poisonous? Their own acrylic paint of the same colour is non toxic. Why can't they use the same pigments in oil based paint or is it some kind of tradition to use the old stuff? I would rather use acrylic but sometimes goes into little blobs and pools on the surface when airbrushed. Does that mean it is too thin? Dave

    Class 85

The Tri-ang Hornby model was a class 81 and may be the same moulding as the Trix. If anyone makes another electric it should be an 83 or 84 as they look a bit different and would create variety. The 81 is too similar to an 85.
  10. Am looking forward to seeing the new Bachmann 25 as the 24/1 is excellent to my eyes. The old Hornby 25 has a good face but I improved it further by increasing the height of the connecting doors and adding some flush glazing. Maybe the doors should go to the bottom of the body?
  11. Sometimes I think the makers deliberately make details slightly oversized just to make them stand out a bit and be seen. I am not really bothered by the grilles and plates on the loco sides. Dave
  12. Here is my Hornby 24 again. It has reduced size front windscreens, raised nose doors and new side windows. The centre front windscreen I increased in size slightly. The Chassis is a modified Bachmann 25.
  13. Thanks. I have only done plastic bodies before. Dave
  14. Is there anything that will strip a Silverfox resin body without ruining it? Thanks
  15. What was the formation of the last train on the Waverley route hauled by No 60 Lytham St Annes? Thanks
  16. Thanks for posting the pics and info.
  17. I have a three car Hornby class 101 but the ones I remember in North Wales in the 70s were two car. Would these have been a powered car and a driving trailer? The Hornby ones are both the powered type. I suppose maybe I am being a bit pedantic! Dave
  18. Thanks for those two answers. Is the black ink the drawing type?
  19. Thanks, Bowender. Metr0land Did you weather those Gresley suburbans by allowing it to dry and then cleaning most of it off off or is it a wash that is wiped away when wet?
  20. Thanks for the reply, Metr0land. I may have a go with an LMS version. Dave
