  1. I dont know if they would suit an e-bike but I am now on my second set of armadillos in twelve years, mostly road some towpath work little off road . My bike is a Cirrus and I weigh 95kg. and a lot of the road work has been loaded uo for touring. Maybe thats no help but i guess at least a satisfied customer.
  2. Curiously the decals on these models were GER and the number 87. the colour was blue . its pretty close to Y4 but has a bunker and pretty rubbish cylinders. I feel sure that someone could actually do this.
  3. I don't think that any of your points are unreasonable. Frankly any model that you may purchase costing upwards of a hundred squids should work at least as well or better than one you have made yourself, to have poor contact incorrect back to back, dodgy soldering and so on should not be a problem. We are not all super engineers highly skilled solderers etc etc and the manufacturers should not expect us to be. The only experience I have of buying a new loco was a poor runner and had many of the problems that you outline so it went back to the shop and I got a refund.
  4. worth comparing the guns with those at the IWM in London one of which is I believe which are from a monitor and is 15inch. These look much the same probably for the Queen Elizabeth class super dreadnoughts or the Royal Sovereign class. This would tie in with 1915 as up until these two classes the biggest British gun was13.5inch.
  5. I used a Bachmann Jinty chassis for a 1F I have no idea if the spacing is right as I usually model GE or LNER however careful use of a hub puller drew wheels out to EM and as the wheels are a tad finer than Hornby little else was needed for it to negotiate my pointwork and it did run slow. The only problem may be getting hold of one.
  6. use what Ivw already got and stop buying stuff on variuos auction sites. finish the several loco s without pick ups. get the turntable working. scenery for the station and depot etc etc etc!!!
  7. I believe that to be correct the footplate will accept a terrier chassis with little fettling so as an0-4-0 I suspect it will ned a bit of a haircut! Happy new year
  8. Gates like that in Melbourne are automatic closure. Not a problem.
  9. This is really interesting. As a slight diversion it may be worth mentioning that some rules of navigation were observed even in the heat of battle. It is a matter of record that a HMS Monmouth ( in the battle of Coronel 1914) lost steering Admiral Craddock ordered the hauling of two black balls on the mainmast (or what was left of it) to signify vessel not under command Ie out of control. An international signal. Sadly very shortly after the ship was lost. it is not recorded why this was done apart from good seamanship which he was renowned for. This has nothing to do with lighthouses but war or no war some recognition of safe seamanship remained maybe some lighthouses stayed lit as a recognition of that.
  10. Thanks for te support, my wife tells me I was really upset, but it was along time ago, I just dont enter competitions any more
  11. I once entered a competition in which I made a water crane from a Lego brick and a biro tube I was impressed but the judging team called it a kit and disqualified me, maybe the lego brick was too regular!
  12. use a gear or hub puller . This allows the wheel to come straight off not distorting the centre. I then put the new wheel onto the axle using a back to back gauge in the small vice . You can also use the vice to simply push the wheel onto the axle until its flush with the wheel surface. if b-t -b is wrong use the gear puller to get it back to the right width. Quartering is helped by resting the crank pins in the wheel on the vice quartered roughly then tweaking to correct it. Hornby wheels are forgiving.I refer you to manna' thread for a clearer description of this process its easier than it sounds.
  13. Well rotten eyesight and clumsy fingers post a stroke pushed me to EM rather than P4(got nowt against that and am constantly impressed by the standards of modelling displayed in that genre) , but I frequently find myself wishing I had stuck to 00 as I wouldn't need to modify as much, then I could stick to hacking and painting which i can deal with.
  14. I believe that it was actually designed to run forrads and backwards with equal facility.
  15. That may be true in many cases but we purchased a Korean motor car when it was three years old and were surprised to find that the company concerned held to the five year warranty when it developed a problem. Its never gone wrong since(touching all the wood I can find) and we(me and SWMBO) will certainly buy another from that company.
  16. i'Ve used a 30W Antex for ages backed up by a Gascat for the layout itself. Whatever you use cleanliness and a decent flux are essential. You are quite correct there are as many as you can think of and everyone has their favorite ,,, But a clean well tinned bit and loads a flux will usually work. S in fact its which ever one you are most comfortable with. Anything around 30w simple to operate no dodgy controllers etc etc should do most things. be clean be quick.
  17. I wish the same could be said of the stuff they make J72's out of. The last time I did it took amix of plastic magic and superglue. Recovery took five days!
  18. I have the odd thought about this. i refereed for many years and was taught in my early days that the essence was fairness. The referee should have an influence but not an effect!. the debating points lie with the first Welsh try. Was it correct as in the Laws? Was it fair? did the referee have an effect on the event by his actions? answeres please in a padded envelope. 2nd Welsh try, how on earth could the on field decision have been to award the try? In real time Rees Zammett knocked on. but Again if the Laws are applied r it was not a knock on but that took several minutes of slow motion multi angle revision before a decision could be reache Again I ask was this fair? did threferee have an effect on the game? of course you cannot expect to win if you give away 19 penalties and thow three interceptions. As a referee although we try hard not to react to players Owen Farrel clearly p,D pascal off and as a result even if incidentally 50-50 decisions will go against him subsequently.
  19. Just as an aside the vintage car may well be one of the Harbutts Replicars from the 60's/70's
  20. agree absolutely, but the world wide stuff has to start somewhere and there is a bit of me that feels we owe a large part of Africa a bit of effort.
