  3. And there was me trying to reign in my spending on trains this year!! Pre orders now placed for an MSC and the Huntley & Palmer ones :-) Going to need a bigger cabinet for my industrial loco collection at this rate...

Mine never actually started out as an intentional collection, I only got Cattewater originally as I used to live not all that far from the refinery in Plymouth n had an idea for a shunting plank. It was only a few months later when I found the other 2 of the first run in Hamleys reduced to 30 each I got them and it's sort of gone from there really. I appreciate that price is a subjective matter, but personally at £50 a pop, or less in the sales, it's not an excessive amount for a lovely little loco and it's going to be fun filling up the display cabinet :-)
  5. While not deliberately trying to outdo anyone... I'm up to 8 already (one of each, plus 2 to repaint) and I've got the next 2 on preorder as well :-) Certainly building up into a nice collection :-)

  9. Actually, just had a headache with pictures <- an idea Didn't someone do a Ruston PWM as an Rtr model? I seem to recall seeing a couple go for silly money on eBay...?

Hi Jeff Both of those are on my to do list, I've just about mastered Dapol kits, n if I can motorise my 04 successfully I'll look at graduating to a complete brass kit :-) Initial plan is get the whole set of class 01 - 13, but plenty of others in the wishlist as well, we will have to see what time and motivation brings :-) Personally, as far as the non standard BR shunters go, the Brush 0-4-0 (D2999?) is top of my list, joint first with the center cab Fowlers http://www.derbysulzers.com/ed6derby1960.jpg Must be said of shunters,being designed for, hmmm, menial work?, rather than the mainline stuff, some of the designs do have so much character and appeal! Thanks all for the further replies :-) Clive, regarding periods, I've got nothing specific in mind for my shunter collection so they'll be an assortment really, just need to work out what carried which combination and pick a loco that fits... the plan so far is Class 01 - black, wasp stripes and TOPS number (01002) Class 02 - was really hoping they got as far as blue with TOPS, but will settle for green with that Class 03 - my one is green, but may end up repainted Class 04 - BR blue, Dxxx number, when I've built it Class 05 - I've got Departmental no. 88 Class 06 - going to be based on a picture I saw on the Web, 06006, BR Blue, wheel rims and centers painted white Class 07 - BR blue, no D prefix 29xx Class 08 - currently in IC livery, but will end up in IC swallow Class 09 - not sure yet, have to research what they carried Class 10 - plain black, early crest, 13xxx number Class 11 & 12 - need to work out how to build them first, let alone paint them Class 13 - BR Blue And yes, I'm a fan of industrials and shunters anyways, having recently brought a copy of modern locomotives illustrated (small shunters edition) I have a steadily growing list of kits of various other classes I want to do eventually. Currently have a Hunslet DY1 on the bench, once that's finished I'll start on my 04 :-)

Thanks Phil, Clive :-) I think the 11/12 will have to be shunted? down the to do list for now, not quite competent enough for an all out scratchbuild yet :-/ Having splashed out on the Heljan 05 recently, I worked out I've got, in varying states, classes 03-09, so I thought why not go for one each of 01-13 and complete the set :-)

Bit disappointed about the 02, would they have had double arrows if they carried TOPS numbers while green? Re Class 11/12 - are there any kits of these available or is it a case of major surgery on an rtr 08? Next list, I'll leave this as a fill in the blanks question, most of what I know ive got from Internet, magazines and the back of cereal boxes etc, and is far from complete, but as far as geographical spread goes... Class 01 - Holyhead Breakwater Class 02 -? Class 03 - nationwide Class 04 - nationwide Class 05 -? Class 06 - mainly Scotland, one at Reading Class 07 - Southampton Docks Class 08 - nationwide Class 09 - nationwide Class 10 -? Class 11 -? Class 12 - Mainly London? And we all know how that story ends so I'm going to start my plan with something resembling proper research :-) Ok, so, I have a few questions about the BR shunters, classes 01 - 12, primarily interested in BR service rather than preservation era. I'll add any more as I think of them but for starters Did any class other than the 01 carry black with wasp stripes in service? Class 02 - did any of these make it into BR blue, and did they carry TOPS numbers or was it Dxxxx for the duration? Class 04 - am I right in thinking some of these made it to BR blue but only ever had Dxxxx numbers? Class 10/11/12 - are there any significant external differences between these and the class 08/09 or is it a case of finding a model of the latter with the correct boxes on the side and renumbering it?   19. There's an advert in the back of the latest issue of Hornby Magazine for Along Classic Lines, n that says they have Heljan 05's in stock as well, everywhere else still seems have them as pre-order though...
  20. Clive: thanks for that, I didn't think they did, wasn't the nosejob done at some point during the 'green era'? To my eye BFYE doesn't look right on the North British hydraulics. My D6xx is a kit with the original front end, but may go 'fictional' and do bsyp anyway, It's that or LoadHaul.... Dave: steam was long gone when I got into trains, my first encounter with a kettle was seeing City of Truro on display outside Truro cathedral, I knew what that loco was by then and remember being awe-struck at seeing the real thing and being shown round the footplate :-) I missed the hydraulics by a good few years as well, which going by some of the nostalgic comments about them on here, I sometimes wish I was born a few years earlier! Asides from class 14's on a heritage railway, my first sighting of a Hydraulic was when I took my then 2 year old daughter to see a Western (Champion?) take a railtour past St Budeaux station, she got as excited as I did as it howled through:-) the only thing I remember seeing the demise of is the 50's, used to travel from Hayle to Cheltenham quite frequently and remember the rows at Laira looking slowly worse for wear each time we passed them :-( hindsight is a funny thing, 47's and HST's were the order of the day back then, but they were 'just trains' to me, now I miss the Valenta scream and dragged my girlfriend out with me at half 6 in the morning to take photo of a 47 on a railtour. Apologies for the off topic monologue, but nostalgia is fun and kills some time waiting, rather than asking again when the new model is due ;-) Happy Days Dan :-)
  21. Changing the subject from dates and lead times, and more about the class than the model but doesn't seem worth starting a new thread for a single yes or no question... Did the D600's ever run in BR blue, with small yellow warning panels but NO headcode boxes? Cheers Dan :-)
  22. By Jove, I've got it! A revamp of the Triang dock shunter to 'modern standards' (dcc, directional lights, room for a speaker etc) It has to be the near perfect loco... - Appealing design - Not 100% based on a specific prototype so no errors for the rivet counters to pick up on - A bit of nostalgia for those that used to have one - A bit of fun for those that didn't - Ideal starter loco, could potter round yards and shunting planks anywhere - Satisfies the call for more industrial locos - Those that model 'neglected' regions don't need to feel left out any more, just tell them it really is from their end of the world - Almost countless liveries, could run in any region/br/sector/ private owner livery you wanted See, bound to be a winner with that many boxes ticked ;-) Cheers Dan :-)

I'd love to see rtr versions to the Brown Boveri gas turbine loco 18000 and the Class 89 in OO gauge, would happily pledge to a crowd funded project for either of those The Hawksworth 15xx pannier tank, again in OO, would also be nice to see :-) And for the industrials corner, how about the Ruston 48ds? Either OO or O gauge, id have a one or two of each :-) Cheers Dan
