  1. The feed second from top inside the crossover is in the wrong place - it should be on the upper loop between ST241 and ST240.
  2. An enamels ban affecting Humbrol was being discussed as long ago as 2009 - see here. So they had plenty of warning. And it seems replacing MEKO with something safer is readily done - eg here. So they had the means to avoid it. So why the lack of action and the lack of notice?
  3. The date of the ban must have been known well in advance, so it's hard to understand why Humbrol gave no notice nor attempted a reformulation, and why we have heard nothing from other makers of hobby enamel paints.
  4. Repeated promises of a product are bound to result in EOI fatigue and KR are still establishing a reputation, so I doubt they have tapped the full level of interest in an N Gauge King.
  5. Nice pic of a prototype. I've just built the WEP kit of one of these in 7mm and I wonder how representative that photo is of how they weathered in service. The grey is certainly a good few shades lighter than original and appears to be flaking back to bare wood rather than an undercoat. The mould is probably due to the wagon being out of service.
  6. Any thoughts on Railmatch acrylics, especially their suitability for airbrushing?
  7. The 1961 WTT for August Saturdays shows an LMR 9-coach set working in to Ilfracombe from Manchester Exchange. All the Wolverhampton and Taunton workings are listed as GWR carriage sets, though as noted above that would not have precluded foreign coaches in the formation.
  8. It's strange that the coach is sitting in the goods yard head shunt and not the carriage sidings. That was hardly the most convenient or spacious overflow parking spot for a rake of coaches, so perhaps it was a strengthener coach, or temporarily out of service.
  9. I have one of these eBay jewellery cleaners - it works fine and it's amply sized for N. Bear in mind that objects longer than the bowl can be cleaned one end at a time.
  10. The CT Elektronik DCX74zD is now out of production but Zimo's newish MX615 and MX616 decoders are even smaller and would be excellent substitutes.
  11. Based on Dapol's current guidance it looks like their 2022 production sequence for O gauge locos will be Banana railcar/B4/45xx/Jinty/Terrier.
  12. That photo appears in "Dorset Steam" and is dated 4th July 1967, the year the Bournemouth line was electrified, so perhaps it was diverted from its usual route. It's the only photo I have seen of china clay traffic on the Weymouth-Westbury line. Supporting that thesis is that 73018 was a Guildford engine in 1967 and would not normally have been seen on that route.
  13. Thanks. What type of socket does the power cord plug into at the drill end please?
  14. I can buy a Proxxon TBM220 more cheaply from Germany than from here in Oz. Does this device come with a PSU or a power cord that could be readily swapped out for a local version?
  15. I can't tell much difference, but perhaps the soundset isn't making full use of the new decoder.
  16. The smaller size is certainly a blessing, but is the sound noticeably better compared to the previous generation decoders? I imagine it's hard to appreciate the difference with a small speaker.
  17. I would have thought it more likely that the clay wagons were tripped into Weymouth. That would be much simpler than a series of reversing moves around Dorchester Jct/West, and Weymouth was better equipped to deal with the shunting and loco servicing aspects.
  18. Zimo's new MS sound decoders are now in stock and promise better sound, improved stay-alive capability and some smaller footprints - any comments please?
  19. By all means seek prototypical inspiration, but the constraints of too little space and too many locos leave you limited options. I'd suggest modelling part of a large shed, incorporating a turntable/coaling stage/ashpit area with a low relief shed concealing a cassette-based fiddle yard. This maximises operational potential and use of space. See the original iteration of Warley's 82G layout for inspiration.
  20. For the early 50s the carriage stock would still be overwhelmingly if not exclusively ex-GWR. The WR was slow to upgrade to the standard stock, and even crack services such as the Cornish Riviera were not formed exclusively from Mk1 until the 1960s. An additional deterrent to mixed formations was that the GWR and BR used different corridor connectors.
  21. Peco's October video update showed tooling for the new mineral wagon - @5:54 here
  22. Good Q. I assume they went to a large transhipment depot where the smalls were resorted by destination.
  23. Rex - I've just bought one of these kits. May I ask what motor/gearbox/pick-ups combination you used? I'd like to install sound so space under the hood will be at premium.
  24. My formerly active mum in the UK doesn't get out much these days, so I send her photos of my morning rides from the Noosa Hinterland in Australia. Here's my pic from this morning - a cool start to a hot summer's day.
  25. Singles are notoriously difficult to set up for traction and good running. Locomotion's superb OO GNR single uses a geared drive to both driven and rear axle, a solution also used in some 7mm locos. Alternatively a tender drive could be used.
