  1. I've tried their GWR freight grey and it's about thirty shades of grey too light. So authenticity may be an issue.
  2. I have three Halls and all are fine on second radius curves. Perhaps you have a bad 'un.
  3. The Finchley Society has a photo of Mr W Ashby in front of his premises on Regents Park Rd in 1933, if that helps.
  4. Paul - thanks. Are the sounds yours and are they authentic?
  5. Is there an aftermarket custom sound set available for this loco please? And is there room for a stay-alive?
  6. Three thin brass washers, from Slaters I believe. Thickness unknown but you can calculate what's required for a ~0.7mm axle slop.
  7. I completed this kit a few months ago so perhaps I can assist. I added several washers between frame and wheels to reduce the sideways axle travel to ~0.7mm. The loco runs fine through tight curves with no binding or waddle. If you have excessive sideways axle travel your plunger pickups may lose contact with the wheels. Check that your plungers are free to travel through their full range of motion.
  8. Supplying a controller that requires an extra GBP30 purchase to prevent it from self-harming is bizarre. The reports of Powercabs melting put me off buying one.
  9. The video I linked to used a 1000uf stay-alive. That's a lot less capacitance than I normally use in 7mm but it seemed to give good results.
  10. I have just bought the Sentinel with factory sound. I'm planning to add a stay-alive (as described here) and it certainly needs it. Not only is the loco prone to stalling on dirty/uneven track - fair enough given it's an 0-4-0 - but when it does so the sound appears to toggle off. Incidentally is there a volume increase function key?
  11. The ESU decoder tester mentioned above is a great investment if you have a lot of decoders with a variety of sockets. I paid about GBP30 from AliExpress.
  12. British Finescale are now doing simple to build OO-SF turnout kits. And by going EM you have to re-gauge all your rolling stock.
  13. Redoing the bookmark cured the problem for me. The domain name seems to have changed from gauge0guild.com to gaugeoguild.com.
  14. Several others have reported similar on the GOG Facebook page - so perhaps it's a geographic issue (I'm in Oz)? Could somebody please flag the issue with the GOG website chaps.
  15. The GOG server has been reporting a 503 error for more than a day now - any word as to when the website will be back please?
  16. Borg rail sell both track and flange gauges for O-MF - I've just ordered some. Contact stephen@borgrail.com The Scale7 society also sells a variety of O-MF gauges and jigs to members only.
  17. A Pictorial Record of Southern Railway Signals by G A Pryer has numerous drawings covering the various standard signal components used by the SR/BR(S), so you would not have much trouble producing your own drawing. It looks like a standard bracket on a rail post with a calling-on arm underneath. Numerous suppliers such as Wizard Models (MSE) provide most of the components you'd need.
  18. I haven't seen mine draw more than 0.2A and there are no function keys required, so almost any smallish decoder with a NEM652 8-pin plug will be suitable. I'd suggest an MX617 at GBP20.
  19. I have built 7mm turnouts that use this method. I found it difficult to bend the pins flush with the tiebar, awkward to solder and tricky to ensure clearances. The pin into PCB method used in Finetrax N is more involved but gives consistent results and allows the tiebar to be mounted and tested before soldering the pins.
  20. Mike Greenwood is a busy man at present so I suggest you try to reach him by phone. Unfortunately small traders failing to respond to email enquiries is commonplace. It would be a benefit all round if more of them took John's advice to advertise their contact status.
  21. On my Ixion Hudswell 0-6-0T, the final idler gear (engaging with the gear on the driven wheel) has come loose on its axle. Any thoughts please how to remove it for repair and how best to resecure it?
  22. More than likely yes, especially as it's a new aspect to the audit. Not only are Hattons liable for any shortfalls in the trunk stock, but trunk items could be used to cover shortfalls in the stock count.
  23. My guess is that Dapol will keep their 7mm focus on tank locos, which have the right price point and the biggest market. If they were to go for a GWR tender loco, then a Dean rather than Collett Goods would have the broadest appeal.
  24. Most businesses would find it cheaper to accept a few returns on second hand rather than to attempt more than a cursory inspection. It's expensive to hire and house somebody with the requisite skills to tinker with sick locos, plus your stock would pile up on his workbench.
