  1. I queried Hattons on their Sold as Seen returns policy and this is their reply: "I do completely understand your concerns here. If you purchase a sold-as-seen item, you do still have 14 days to return the item back to us whether that is due to it being unwanted or faulty"
  2. "Sold as Seen" certainly implies no returns. It's mostly applied to non-runner locos, which is fair enough. But it's also applied to untested pre-owned electronic products, which would likely be worth zip if faulty.
  3. Hattons sometimes describe pre-owned items as "Sold as Seen". Under consumer law, I doubt that they could refuse a faulty return unless that fault had been made clear in the sale description. Has anyone tested them on this?
  4. Has Dapol clarified what tooling variations they will provide for? There is an SR version, so I assume there will be at least two.
  5. Interesting, as only five versions have been announced.
  6. Given the incredibly long wait (Ten Years!) and the fact it's only at the CAD stage (Still! Again!), it's unsurprising that few have bothered to register a pre-order for the WC. But if there is a market for any steam-era loco in N, it would surely be for this one. As other makers would likely have proved by now, had Dapol not been squatting on this project for so long.
  7. Excellent job with the tarpaulin - care to share how you did it?
  8. Hi John - could you expand please on how you use your bench sander for rail filing?
  9. Anthony - you might be interested in this article on the quarry railway at Penmaenmawr here
  10. I'm just reading about the unfolding semiconductor industry downturn, so buyer famine may soon turn to feast.
  11. China advantage isn't just low cost - as the world's toy factory, it has a vast ecosystem of component and service suppliers that has no equivalent in the UK.
  12. I've seen no photographic evidence of Adams Radials operating in P/P mode on the branch. And no M7s were ever used, due presumably to axle loading restrictions. The smaller O2s that served had to run with reduced water and coal capacity.
  13. The difference in carmine/cream livery between Dapol (Collett) and Farish (Hawksworth - top) is so marked that they look wrong mixed in the same rake.
  14. Of course. But reviewers could reasonably be expected to ask the manufacturer where the sounds came from, and who prepared the soundset. When I'm spending GBP120 for sounds I like to know that they were recorded from the original loco.
  15. Movements to and from off-scene carriage sidings need occupy only one approach road, with the pilot following departing trains out of the platform as at eg Bournemouth West. With the layout shown, movements to and from the carriage sidings are liable to block all four approach lines.
  16. It's rarely possible to assess sound authenticity or quality before purchase, as neither manufacturers nor magazine reviewers pay much attention to this area. A strange omission given that this feature can cost a third or more of a loco's price tag. Perhaps BRM might take a lead here?
  17. Hmm. As things stand, every empty carriage stock movement will block most if not all the approach lines. Better perhaps to imagine the carriage sidings as being off-scene.
  18. Isn't it strange that manufacturers of RTR locos - even the most expensive brass variety - rarely bother to advertise the source or authenticity of their soundsets, or who programmed them?
  19. Ben - might we expect similar electrical features to the Farish 159 ie conductive internal couplings/all-wheel pick up/lighting controlled via single decoder?
  20. More pertinent is whether the new chassis will eliminate the often-poor running of Dapol's Grange and Manor locos, which is usually attributed to the pick-up design of the 3500 gall tender.
  21. Did Revolution say that? Given that they are using an existing chassis I'd hope to see them sooner than that.
  22. The previous indicated delivery date was 1H 2023, so it looks as if that has slipped by as much as a year. I wonder if the newly announced GWR Mogul is now ahead in the production queue. The one aspect that has made considerable progress is the RRP - up from GBP120 for DCC ready when first announced in 2012, to GBP207 now. At this rate I may be too poor as well as too old to own one once they eventually appear.
  23. It looks like they will follow the A3/A4s, which as of last month were shown as "about to leave the factory"
