  1. Given they have developed their own sound chip, is it likely to be inhouse? We may then eventually see it as an aftermarket offering?
  2. More time to dither over whether to keep my SECR order due to the colour being lighter than I would have preferred.
  3. Model Rail has just landed on my doorstep and confirms that they are withdrawing from the project. However Rapido "is looking to bring this project to fruition" and asking for our views here
  4. I used my Lokprogrammer, which has interface which does not require an understanding of all the cvs and that made it a bit easier to get the lights working how I wanted. I did end up resetting it to defaults, which allocated 3 to a "crawl" speed setting, and 4 to something else which I cant remember. I haven't had the speed issue mentioned above, so just speculating that the directional lighting issue somehow is linked to the crawl feature on some decoders.
  5. And I think the gardener has complemented the railway rather well in addition!
  6. We are having the same discussion at our club where we are building a table height out door O gauge railway. Looking through videos and photos on line - very few seem to have to have been built with edges. So perhaps its a question of having confidence in well laid track and maintained stock.
  7. We are about to use a similar from filcris.co.uk. Useful to see another supplier to look at for our requirements.
  8. Interesting to read what works and what proves not to work after a few years outside. We have just started building an outdoor O gauge running track at our club. We have decided to avoid using wood altogether. Pooling ideas from members using their own experiences has hopefully come up with a good design. For uprights we are using recycled plastic posts from filcris.co.uk. For straight sections we have bought galvanised electrical conduit (as in the photo), which will hold a plank of plastic board covered in roofing felt to fix the track to. For stations we are planning to use wider strips of plastic board, using dexion to provide rigidity. Curves will again be built using flexible plastic sheets cut into stringers and spacers and fixed together with stainless steel screws using the ladder design and then covered in felt. Our primary criteria is building something to last. Not being in a garden, we have to worry less about aesthetics, but do need to ensure it will be robust and withstand usage from a wide range of users of all ages.
  9. I wonder if there is a preventative measure that we could be taking to prevent this happening ie in the areas that are unavoidable to touch
  10. I had to dismantle to remind myself what I had done! 1. Unscrew and turnover the small circuit board and solder two wires on to the switch contacts shown in the second photo. This has the effect of bridging the provided switch. Reattach the circuit board. 2. Solder the reed switch to a short piece of stiff copper wire and solder the two wires on either end. 3. Glue one end of the copper wire adjacent to circuit board to mount the magnetic reed switch close to the underside of the roof - being careful to avoid the post for the body screw. 4. Replace the roof That's how I muddled through to a solution!
  11. On earlier commission I had reason to cancel my order, but Rails did refund me by the way of a credit on my account. I think this is reasonable. The £30 credit was fairly quickly spent on something else!
  12. Grey version arrived this morning. (My home office is conveniently adjacent to my railway, so have snuck it out of its box) Looking forward to playtime later on.
  13. Very pleased with mine, including the tender connection as already commented. My cab roof fell off - so I will use it as an opportunity to fit the crew before I glue it back on. Need to decide whether my Adams keeps its 488 address.
  14. SECR liveries ordered. A matching brake van would be well received.
  15. Speculating further and at the risk of straying further off topic, if fences are mended with Bachmann, might we then see Hatton's products reappear in the EFE range?
  16. I ordered my terrier through Dapol and got an email on order and another on dispatch. Hope you resolve your issue!
  17. Some sound fitted versions still available from Dapol. https://www.Dapol.co.uk/shop/oo-gauge/Steam-Locomotives-OOGauge/A1_A1X
  18. I can see that now, I should have paid more attention to the photo I was following, rather than where I removed the Hornby ones.
  19. thanks, presumably angled away from the door? Should be easy enough to bend.
  20. I did have ago at bending wire, but gave it up - I think a jig would be the answer. I then unearthed a part used etch with enough handles for this job.
  21. My conversion to a LBSCR departmental van (inspiration from here) - new spoked wheels (dont count the spokes!) - convert to gas lighting. Tanks from brass tube, gas lanterns are midland - but I think similar enough - add roxey handles to selected doors (the others being locked out). A very fiddly job, would welcome tips, as I still have the other side to do. - paint and transfers - foot boards. reposition Hornby supplied (albeit incorrect length) and added the missing lower one made from plasticard and wire.
  22. If this is not a wind up, then will we be waiting until 2023 (the 70 anniversary of the film release) for their release?
  23. Now with easy on and off. Latching Reed switches available from layouts4u.net
  24. in anticipation of this being a faff, I have ordered a latching magnetic reed switch to have a go at the magic wand method of turning on and off. My own is making its way from Cornwall currently, I will post my success or otherwise in this thread.
