  1. Quite right - I don't know why I thought they were out of stock! Sound decoder is a Loksound 4 and the sound file is from http://www.wheeltappersdccsounds.co.uk/. I am afraid I cant remember where the speaker came from as I already had it. The 8 pin socket is Laisdcc 860002 DCC NEM652 8-Pin socket with hard wiring solder tabs adaptor PCB - I expect they also do a 21 pin as well.
  2. Werner, I have put everything in the roof and you cannot see any of it once its fixed back down again. Everything is fixed with black tack. I wanted to reposition the speaker to be at the driver end (to make sure there was more distance between the engine sounds and the autocoach sounds. Also the speaker housing looked ugly! It also means just two wires are needed between the body and the roof and they are easily fitted through the partition as you can see. I believe the Dapol kit has a separate drivers cab light - but I chose not to fit that. The remaining task is to put some sort of translucent cover over the lights to make them more yellow and less bright. So the parts list (without sound) is just a dcc socket, two or three warm white led strips (eg N gauge coach lighting size) and optionally a plug and socket. Then just solder the lights to aux pads on the socket. Good luck!
  3. They used to be available from here https://www.dccsupplies.com/item-p-113051/autocoach-o-lightbar-screw-kit but seem to be out of stock I did my own conversion using parts bought mainly from ebay. The pickups on the bogies are already there, so I bought a decoder socket and led lighting strips. So if you have done your own DCC fitting before and soldering, this should not present too much difficulty.
  4. The last issue of the Brighton Circle Modellers digest has the latest in a series of articles about a lbsc travelling hand crane project beautifully built by Colin Paul. The current issue describes building a Stroudley 3rd brake coach converted to a crew riding coach. So my thoughts are: Paint a Hornby "stroudley" brake 3rd grey plus add the correct door handles, and you have a nice coach to go with the Oxford Cowans Sheldon crane (swan neck) when it comes available - leaving just a tool van and match track to source. Whether that precise combination was prototypical, I dont know - but it feels like an interesting project. I have bought the LSWR Hornby 4 wheelers with some missgivings, so I may pinch the most stroudley looking of them all for the above. http://www.lbscr.org/Models/Digest/LBSCR-Modellers-Digest-12.pdf
  5. @ianmaccormac Ian Is the white layer to help the opacity of the second layer? I have a previous version from you where they don't show up to well on umber. Presuming the answer is yes, can order via RMWeb message as before?
  6. Many thanks for this, the sets do include Smoking as well. Only limited stock - so have cleared them out!
  7. Thanks, I should have made clear I was after the GW ones which included "smoking" like the 4mm ones below But your suggestion in the absence of the above in 7mm is helpful - trying to work out if the triangles are the same! I think "smoking" was dropped but they lingered on for a while which is why wanted include
  8. What colours would you paint them? Googling the subject show sometimes the regulator painted black and others red. Also anyone found (no) smoking transfers for 7mm?
  9. I have followed your work with interest and found it a useful guide to my own reccent xmas purchase. I did DIY DCC fitting which works out considerably cheaper that than buying the Dapol kit. Its straight forward to do as there were already wheel pickups. I moved the speaker to the driver end to ensure the Gong sound (comes from the right end and to provide distance from the engine sound). Aslo allows removal of the ugly speaker housing and the inclusion of some baggage. I have applied wood effect to the partitions using a slightly different oil paint technique - which seems to be effective, but took a very long time to dry. So first question @brossard is whether you applied the varnish technique to the underlying coach side or to the glazing? Secondly I see some photos showing carriage prints on the sides as well as partitions - did you fix them? Thought they might distract from the glazing gaps. I found a picture of one autocoach with arm rests, so made some seat ends and fitted those as well (no idea if this type of autocoach had them tough) to draw the eye away from the glazing fittments. I liked your moquette idea, but decided in the end not to include as I didnt think I would achieve as neat a finish as you did. Lastly added modelu figures. Remaining job is to dim the lighting a bit more - want to get to a nearer prototypical light level, but still see the passengers and interior - given the effort!
  10. Thanks, mine is fitted with a Loksound - which is explains why I occasionally experience the issue. As Kernow have acknowledged the issue by changing the subsequent models it would be good to have their advice on approved resolutions for those that need it on earlier ones.@Kernow MRC
  11. Is there a Kernow approved method to resolve this. I believe I have an affected loco, but its only a minor inconvenience to me - so not done anything about it.
  12. Out of interest what is the easy amendment? I have two Adams liveried examples (Oxford) that could benefit from being "backdated"
  13. Are you sure that's correct? The pictures look like the earlier mahogany livery that is suitable for the IEG Terriers that Hornby produce. They have a complete aversion to doing any Terriers in umber - so that would be perverse!
  14. Given the popularity of Terriers, Stroudleys must be a likely candidate for a non generic release (ie following Dapol's O gauge lead) by a manufacturer. However this release might reduce the viability of such a venture.
  15. I've done the opposite, ordered the same engine from different retailers. Fortunately noticed just in time, but felt bad cancelling one.

  17. My DCC fitted Umber Terrier arrived today from Dapol. It runs well and there are no visible gaps between the running plate and cab/tanks. However when I hold up a steel rule a curve can be seen towards the front. I have elected to keep the model as its not noticeable at normal viewing distance and doesnt affect its running. When discussing, with the helpful staff at Rails, about cancelling my order, they advised that Dapol are awaiting a new shipment that addresses the running plate issue. Given that Dapol are now not showing any more stock of my version and an underdetermined wait for replacements convinced me a bird in the hand is better!
  18. In over 20 years of Dapol/Hornby, new Hornby and now Dapol/rails terrier production there has only been two in umber. Hopefully the current Rails product has proved popular to warrant a further variant if and when a new batch is done given there is 25 prototypes to choose from.
  19. If you want the current model, Dapol have them available (both ready and fitted). https://www.Dapol.co.uk/shop/oo-gauge/Steam-Locomotives-OOGauge/A1_A1X. Umber seems to be a Cinderella livery for terriers even though there would have been many more of them, I assume, than the "pretty" liveries that are popular with buyers. I certainly looking forward to receiving mine to replace my venerable original umber terrier (its been residing in Dapol's factory since May waiting for a decoder to be fitted and to be delivered to Rails)
  20. Certainly quicker. I am still waiting for my Umber DCC fitted Terrier.
