  1. The umbrellas might not have lasted long one the train was moving? Roddy
  2. I don't know if I will actually get them, but I just managed to order a couple of these coaches on the Hornby website using the following link: https://www.Hornby.com/uk-en/shop/coming-soon/l-mr-open-third-class-carriage-era-1.html Regards Roddy
  3. The livery is correct for the bus at some point, I have seen an undated picture of it in light green. It was probably repainted before the picture linked above. Regards Roddy
  4. According to "From SMT to Easter Scottish" by DLG Hunter this bus, which appears to be the only A.E.C. Renown owned by Eastern Scottish, was purchased in 1963 and transferred to Highland Omnibuses Ltd in 1973. I hope this is helpful Best wishes Roddy
  5. If I remember correctly, there is a key on one of the gear train housings that is difficult to keep seated properly during assembly. If it moves, it causes extra friction in the drive train, leading to motor problems. Regards Roddy
  6. Thanks very much Darius, that is really helpful. The bogies looked green on my screen, which was why I asked as I thought Rail Blue was a more logical colour. Best wishes Roddy
  7. Fantastic build Darius, I could only dream of being so quick (and good). Would you mind sharing what colours you used for what, some of the colours look a bit odd on my screen. Thanks Roddy
  8. Hi Paul On the suggestion that you publish a list of who has ordered, perhaps an email/pm to those with orders might be more appropriate. There is a risk that publishing names online might not meet with everyone's approval. Best wishes Roddy
  9. Hi Paul Can I ask, is this kit different/more accurate/better, easier to assemble that your previous one? I am just wondering if I should also register an interest in this one as well. Thanks Roddy
  10. Did they give any indication about how they would be distributed? By the retailer or direct from Hornby? Thanks Roddy
  11. Going back to the conversation earlier in this thread about there being a break in the running board and the conclusion that the running board would be continuous, even on a six-wheeler, and that Hattons had got it wrong, this picture illustrates that the running board was not continuous across the axle boxes, at least on some coaches. Whether that would have changed if the coach was converted to a four-wheeler, I don't know. Regards Roddy
  12. Och well, easy come easy go! Thanks for the reminder that I had ordered them from Rails. Best wishes Roddy
  13. If you are not varnishing over them then you can normally remove them by covering them with sellotape, when removed it should remove the decal as well. Alternatively, letting the decal stand in water should remove it after a while. Either way there should not be any damage to the painted surface, as long as it is sound. Best wishes Roddy
  14. A suggestion for those that have concerns about breaking the wires between the engine and the tender. If you strip a bit of the insulation of an appropriately sized piece of wire , it can be pushed onto the pin to hold the coupling between the engine and tender in place. This avoids the strain put on the wiring when the two unexpectedly separate while you are handling them. The insulation can just be slipped off if you need to separate or want to return to original condition. I hope this helps some people and I apologise if someone has already made this suggestion. Best wishes Roddy
  15. The problem is that unfortunately some people have difficulty in telling the difference between hypothetical and reality, actionable or not. Regards Roddy
  16. You should be able to find exterior wood glue in any DIY store which should suffice for your purposes. I assume that you will be painting whatever you are making, which should help with waterproofing. Regards Roddy
  17. I don't know about what happened with others but yesterday I received an email from Hornby at 10:02 telling me that they were going to produce the third class carriage. My immediate reaction was that I had ordered the Rails one and I would continue with that order and see what the Hornby one looked like when available, I did briefly think about cancelling my Rails order but thought that unfair on Rails as I had already made a commitment. At 10:49 (47 minutes after the Hornby announcement) I got an email from Rails telling me that they were not proceeding with their model and that all pre-orders would be automatically cancelled. The same email informed me that the Hornby version was available to order on their website. After briefly considering whether I would buy from my local shop, I decided that I would stick with Rails as they had made the effort around their own model. I therefore went on line and ordered the Hornby wagon from Rails, I did have to wait until it was properly added to the site as initially the order did not go through. The confirmation email was timed at 11:30. Now, unless Rails made me a special case, I do not call that poor customer communication. Within 50 minutes of the Hornby announcement, assuming the formal announcement was at 10:00, Rails (who may have had advanced notice I admit) had made a decision to cancel their model and informed me of the decision. This allowed me to make a decision on ordering the Hornby model, which I did from Rails as they had told me that they were accepting pre-orders. I think that Rails' communication on this issue was very quick and clear and the prompt decision on cancellation allowed me the option of either ordering from my local shop or Rails. I would have been more annoyed if Rails had failed to make a quick decision which might have meant that I missed the opportunity to pre-order the coach (or is it a luxury wagon). As someone else has already said, Rails' allowance for the Hornby model is probably less than they had pre-orders for their own version, so unfair though it may sound, first come first served. Hopeefully Hornby may increase the run if there is enough demand. Regards Roddy
  18. From the look of those pictures it would appear to be the close coupling cams that are not working properly as the magnets are being forced apart. Are they sticking? I had a similar problem with the Oxford coaches and had to loosen the screw holding the interior, which also holds the un-coupling mechanism in place, to get them to work properly. Sorry I can't help more but I don't have my ScotRail coaches yet and don't know the exact setup. Best wishes Roddy
  19. Does anyone know who does a sound chip for the Stirling single? I bought the DC version and am thinking about adding a sound chip but don't know who does one. Thanks Roddy
  20. Only if it comes with a numbered certificate. Roddy
  21. I assume you are talking about a pre-order here. If you have renamed an existing account, then PayPal may automatically update it or if the account is still in existence then it may still be active, even though you may not have used it for a while. The issue may be what bank account the old PayPal account is linked to and if there are funds in it to meet the payment. I wouldn't worry too much, I am sure Rails will be in touch if the payment request to PayPal is rejected. I am sure that this will not be a problem for them, it happens all the time with debit/credit cards which have expired whilst waiting for a pre-order. Best wishes and I hope you get a speedy solution. Roddy
  22. I totally agree Martin and I was probably being unfair to quote you. I was trying to make the point that Polybear's stance, quoted by you, that, either as a buyer or seller, Polybear would not leave feedback until feedback had been received it could result, if dealing with a buyer or seller with the same view, with no feedback being given or received by either side. Someone has to be first to leave feedback! I agree that a quick email is the best way to elicit a response from a buyer. My practice when selling is to use a buyer's feedback as confirmation that they had received the item and are content with it. If no feedback is received within a few days of posting, I send a polite email asking for confirmation that the item had been received. I am a private seller but want to make sure that the purchaser is happy and that the item has been safely received. Similarly, as a buyer, I will always leave prompt feedback on any item received from an individual so that they know that I have received it and am content. If there is a problem then I will contact them by email and leave feedback when the issue is sorted. I will happily give positive feedback, even if there is a problem, as long as the seller quickly deals with the issue in a professional manner. Please accept my apologies for any upset caused by my poor drafting. Best wishes Roddy
  23. They may also not leave feedback until they have received it, hence no feedback given by either side. Roddy
  24. Are the splines not there to make the NEM pocket a tight fit in the receptacle on the coach? If it is too tight, try filling the back face of the NEM pocket tail until it is a push fit, but not loose. Regards Roddy
