  1. The Great A’Tuin is just out of the photo… The Astronaut and Space Station are in the way!
  2. Yes, there does seem to be a problem with the gear wheels stripping. Probably the type of plastic isn’t up to the loading? I’ve had to replace one or two. Older, Margate gear wheels seem to be made of better plastic. The China made B12 of course uses a different gearing from the old X.04 or New Type X.03. I think it is the same as the later “Jinty” type chassis, with the Type 7 (I think) motor. SSPP type.
  3. Hornby Train Packs…. Don't count on any resemblance to real life. E.G. BR locos with Private Owner coal wagons, and no Brake Van… Tri-ang in the 1950s at least included a Brake Van, and except for the very early sets with NE and GW liveried wagons, were all in BR livery….
  4. I loved the BR Express Blue liveried B12. It was a Train Set only model. I am pretty sure that we sold ours though, as the price was right, and it is actually a fictional use of the livery, as were the non corridor Clerestory coaches in Carmine Red and Cream, corridor coach livery in that set. We do still have a Break coach though, as it goes pretty well with the Railway Children Set, which is lacking a brake coach as supplied…
  5. That is only true for the earliest R.59 2-6-2 tank locos. Later, from around 1961, with the introduction of the Seuthe type smoke units, the chassis was retooled to take a unique cylinder block, with a hole to clear the smoke unit mounting socket. This hole weakens the moulding, which can break easily around this hole. A different motion bracket was also used, a sort of T shaped bracket. When the R.59 chassis was again modified, around 1969 (I seem to recall) to take the small Synchrosmoke unit, unfortunately the cylinder moulding wasn’t modified to do away with the hole, even though it wasn’t needed for SS chassis. And so the weakened moulding was still used…
  6. The second one… When is a train set not a train set? Possibly when there is no train in the set?
  7. Yes, that loco body is a China made one, as is the tender. The metal buffers and lining style are the give aways on the tender. Does the tender still have the sound box, Chuff Chuff noise device? The chassis is, though, the 1970s - 1980s type.
  8. The 4 wires between the loco and tender are to take the power from the loco pickups to the tender mounted DCC socket (2 wires), and the power feed to the motor from the DCC socket in the tender. (The other two wires). The tender pick ups (if present) are wired in parallel with the feed from the loco pick ups, to the tender mounted DCC socket. Some use of a multimeter on the continuity setting should enable identification of the wires? If required, for Analogue only use, and not requiring the tender pick ups, the 4 wires on the loco can, after identification, be joined to take the power from the loco pick ups direct to the motor. To keep the tender pick ups, you may as well keep the original plug and socket wiring… I am sorry I can’t provide a wiring diagram, I only know the general layout…
  9. The Jouef box a little worn…as in a large hole, or window, cut into the lid where there wasn’t one before! Also, both coupling loops missing, and no photo of the Starboard side…I wonder why, 12 free photos available for every listing!
  10. Some sellers at fairs wrap items in this way….note the expertly removed price label! For Cab Finial, read Cab Details….Autocorrect strikes again, or something… As for re lining…possibly meant to read refinishing? Or just finished off??
  11. (D) Interior, this means the box interior, yellow plastic tray…no sign of the rest of the box though! (F) Exactly my thoughts, especially the lettering!
  12. Also see here? And the next couple of posts….
  13. Yes, the loco itself is described as a kit. Possibly the best part of this lot… I have looked again, and that Tri-ang cement tanker body does indeed seem to be fitted on to an LNER 8-wheel tender drive chassis… The three bogie bolster wagons are the Diecast Hornby Dublo BR OO gauge models. They have been fitted with different bogies, and some of the bogies at least have the “Continental “ type loop coupling. Probably fitted to replace the original 3-rail metal wheeled bogies… The American style flat car has been fitted with Tri-ang or Hornby BR coach bogies, complete with Mk3 tension lock couplings. Ohh, and the aircraft are WW2, or WWII, not WW1 or WWI… I suspect an undetected typo!
  14. The locomotive “tender” is in fact a Tri-ang Bulk Cement Tanker. These were grey originally, but yellow ones were made later. The Dublo bolster wagons have had a variety of different bogies fitted, possibly to change from 3-rail to 2-rail compatible wheels. The Lancaster body is on what looks like a USA type flat wagon, with the remains of the hand brake wheel axle at the nearest end. Probably not Tri-ang, and definitely not Dublo, some other maker there… There is no brake van either!
  15. No, not that Montana….. But interesting all the same, thanks.
  16. Now that set is certainly beautiful! Really attractive. NO…I am NOT going to start collecting Marklin!
  17. I seem to recall that Hornby have a “Montana” already?
  18. Douglas Adams had some interesting thoughts about the origins of Cricket….see The H.H.Guide to the Galaxy ….
  19. It will soon be that time of year again!
  20. The Moon Rover had better Beware of the Soup Dragon….
  21. Nicely done…. Strictly speaking, the double lined 3MT tank loco body is too early for the synchrosmoke units… Tri-ang Railways had gone to single lining, I think before 1964…
  22. News is coming in that Nestle has announced that they are experiencing supply chain problems. There should be no shortage of chocolate products, as long as everyone shops normally, and does not panic buy.

  24. Ahhh, a place named after my Dragon…. Barf and Belch, Belch being my brother Tuff’s… https://howtotrainyourdragon.fandom.com/wiki/Barf_and_Belch
  25. The Terry loco may have been a bit less common, (maybe even Rare?) but as a collectible, sticking the face on it has sunk that.
