  1. Not much to report of late as work and a holiday seemed to get in the way...... A new addition to the stock and that is a Heljan Class 25 and at the present time some weathering being undertaken. The MGR wagons have started to have some treatment as well A mates 08 has under gone some weathering to take the pristine shine off the model A lastly ..... next doors cat is still using the track as it's very own bed.... At least it's not destroying the signals anymore... Hopefully a more productive update shortly. Jim
  2. Peter I always put red & black to the track...... (To the pick ups) Orange & grey the other way..... (To the motor) Hope this helps Jim
  3. 75k + for both cars....Minimum...... If we knew then what we know now .... If only we kept them..... Jim
  4. Just think, that threat would be worth 9k + nowadays.... what railway items you could buy with that money...... Jim
  5. Evening Mike Go to your very first post and at the bottom of that post you will see "Edit". Click on "edit" and you will see the first post you wrote .... at the bottom you should see another tab called "Use Full Editor" click on the tab and this will open another window which will allow you to change the topic title.... Jim
  6. Doh...... I forgot to add the picture.... I knew I needed to do something else !!!!!! Jim
  7. Evening Hope all is well.... Look what arrived today Well happy with the wagons ... However, as some other modellers have stated the couplings need to be looked at.....What a model.... The first one is a weathered Skytrex model and the rest are Dapol...... All will be weathered shortly Jim
  8. Good Evening Art I'm not the connoisseur when it comes to DCC, however, I also use the NCE power cab with a 5 amp booster & some Heljan O gauge loco's..... As for how many loco's you want it to control will depend on the software chip that you have installed in the throttle, version 1.65 will allow you to control up to 6 loco's at any one time but you will have to set these up on the throttle menu. Originally I had a shunting layout in the garage (17'x2') layout and never had a problem. We then extended the layout to run around the garden but we did have to utilise the 5 amp booster and start to put the layout into power districts, we also utilised a Merg booster to operate numerous loco's on the layout and since installed we have not really had an issue, (weather permitted) something I then left to my colleague as he has the knowledge of the intricacies of how DCC works and what gives us the most to operating the system. Originally we also operated tortoise points and I believe signals via the power cab but have since change this to operate the points / signals via a control panel with the help of Merg components. If you require any further assistance I can ask him to comment on your forum page... Jim
  9. Andy I use my iphone to record 'Ayr Road' and then use a program call 'slimmer' which will reduce the video size by over half without losing too much quality. I'm sure you can get a similar program if you use an android phone like Samsung etc. It usually takes me about 20 minutes to upload a similar length video to you tube. Jim
  10. Rod I am crying into my cuppa....... Don't despair.... the lad is only 11 years of age .... he has sooooo much ahead of him...... wait until he discovers girls !!!!! Then adulthood comes along and he will once again rejoin the fraternity and become a young modeller .... again If he has a skillful builder like yourself he will be serving a long apprenticeship Jim
  11. Whilst I was at the Telford show last week I picked up 'Rust It' with the view to just rusting up a few mineral wagons. Well I decided to replace the old outside fuel point after the local cat decided to use it as a scratching post and eventually destroyed it. So I set about building a new one and got a chance to 'rust it' up once built. .... Hopefully the local cat won't destroy this one.. I have to admit I am quite impressed with 'Rust It'....I would definitely recommend it. Jim
  12. Rich All my locos still retain their screw couplings so I use the loop on the dinghams to hook over the screw coupling and if I have no loop on the wagon, only a hook then I couple up using the screw coupling from the loco. Have you looked at MM Models they do some magnetic ones for coaching stock and loco's and when not in use they fold downwards. I bought some for a friend whilst at Telford to fit to his coaching stock. Jim
  13. Morning Rich I also use Dinghams on my wagons & coaching stock only. My coaching stock s are permanently fitted so the same stock is always joined together and I have loops at both ends. The wagons are slightly different as these tend to be shunted and uncoupled, however they can't be turned so the loop is always at the same end. If I have to move stock when shunting I the use the coupling on the loco to secure to the wagon...... even we use steam trains as well.... I know this probably doesn't help your cause but I have to admit I like the simplicity of Dinghams Good luck Jim
  14. Brian Absolutely cracking modelling.... Have been following your modelling forum since the start and it will be a shame to give up the existing layout but if the new one looks as good then we will be treated to something even better in the future... Good luck with the new railway Jim
  15. Well I went to the Telford show on Saturday for a look around ...... That didn't last ..... I ended up buying two PCA wagons from the Skytrex stand. The wagons go together pretty well (not many pieces) and to complete they only require wheels, buffers & transfers.... I am just waiting for the buffers to arrive...... As I forgot to pick some up whilst at the show!!! Jim
  16. Evening Dougal & Rich I purchased two of these kits on Saturday and they do go together very well .... In the kit they have everything except:- Wheels, Buffers & Transfers. Jim
  17. Afternoon Today's new arrival turned up on Ayr Road....... She looks a stunner that will be put to duties in the next few days. Although slightly incorrect as 37405 actual had a centre headcode and not a split headcodes.... come to thing of it I don't know if any split headcode versions were painted in this livery... Anyway she still looks good... Jim
  18. Lee There is only one loco in this trio that oozes character ..... Long Live the Tractor Jim
  19. Lee Now these look brilliant..... Someone out there is going to be seriously pleased when they receive a cracking whistler .... Absolutely spot on.... Jim
  20. Spot on weathering matey..... What Matt varnish do you use to seal your weathering? Jim
  21. I will have a word with the employee about his appearance ....
  22. Morning from tropical Milton Keynes... Well when I started my thread it was to gain experience building my JLTRT 37 that I purchased part made... I tapped into a few other RM webbers to get their experience so thanks for your help. Well the 37 just sat on the shelf for 2 years so a little while ago I decided that it should take pride and place on the work bench and carry on building it and now we are nearing the end of this stage. I know that I have the cant rail to put on as well as numbers so these have been placed on order and then all that is left to fit is a sound decoder and a few other detailing parts... Jim
  23. I do believe it was only on the No1 end... Great work on your class 27 Lee... superb Jim
