There's an excellent book "Bridges for Modellers" (OPC) which shows details of prototype bridge construction to help us modellers get it right
-
Couldn't you paint a back scene on a pull down roller blind to complete the model illusion when you want to escape?
-
Low melt solder will fix that a treat.....

I think it is a good idea to have several projects on the go at once - it does save getting bored, but I would only do those that I am interested in - currently I have two EM gauge layouts started (KESR & ex-LBSCR) but have also started a 7mm scale KESR "might-have-been" and have both OO9 and OOn12 (Rye and Camber Tramway) stock for other projects that may never get started!
Variety is the spice of life, but it's too short to chop & change very often!

Here's a link on the Storeton Tramway (NOT a light railway despite the title!) - again was horse drawn:

Interesting where some of the output from Storeton Quarry ended up....

What a nice idea....
I've eyed up the Storeton Tramway, which was only a couple of miles from where I live, but don't think I will ever get around to it.....

Have you installed leds for signal lamps as well? It looks as though they are lit in the video
-
Good luck!

Yes, RAF Warmwell was a real place - almost 30 year ago we lived in Crossways, nr Dorchester Dorset, and Crossways was developed on the site of RAF Warmwell.
-
Do you mean the little jig for drilling out the pin point axles to allow you to fit brass bearing cups?
-
Yes, those O gauge Terriers are irresistibly - give in, you know you want one - I did, and the EM project is now on the back burner!
-
The scenery is absolutely stunning down the West Coast of New Zealand, just a pity it has to rain so much to make it that lush! I could just imagine the "haul road" to Westport Lime as a steam hauled 3' 6" gauge line - would have been much nicer than those overgrown tipper trucks!
-
Good luck with your model - this time last year we were driving up (slowly) from Queenstown to Picton (then on from Wellington to Auckland) we had an overnight stop at Cape Foulwind (Omau Settlers Lodge Motel) and a very nice meal at The Bay House.
Hope you got space to incorporate some "crazy" features like the single carriageway/railway line bridge and the line across the middle of a roundabout!
Best wishes
Richard

Hi Dave,
Looking at your first photo, your baseboards look interesting - are they individual"trolleys"? - any more details available?
Many thanks
Richard

Resistance is futile, you will assimilated!
I gave in to temptation and bought the Dapol Terrier in KESR blue livery (Bodiam) - currently building a Steam and Things kit for the Pickering steam railcar to keep it company on a small Edwardian era KESR "might have been" layout
-
Although only in EM, I built the double slip for my layout first, on the premise that if I could build that, I could build all the "easier" trackwork....
-
At last a sensible use of some dumb bell weights - other usage can lead to personal injury!
-
Persevere - Templot is a great tool, but you have to put the effort in to learn how to use it - the trouble is that as we (in general) don't do many layouts, you forget by the time you come round to the next one! Anyway, I am absolutely certain I couldn't have planned and built all the point work for my layout without Templot. Now just to build the baseboards!
-
Lovely - especially the damp look in the bottom of the pit - I really need a 45' for my layout and am trying to decide whether to scratch build or compromise on either the 42' or 50' available from LRM.
-
Oh dear! Is 7mm scale addictive? I've bought myself an O gauge Dapol Terrier and have a nasty feeling that the 4mm scale projects may get abandoned!
-
I put all my stuff away in the loft whilst we went to Australia and new Zealand for 3 months, now I find the borrowers have had my 10BA taps.......
-
Here's the finished article (well, running chassis) - still the brake gear and sand pipes etc to add - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/uploads/gallery/album_1858/gallery_12271_1858_682536.jpg

Hi David
Many thanks for your comments
It may be the "customer's" memory, but as he is also red/green colour blind that may not help! - could it have been (as you alluded) a hang over from LMS red? - how long would these have lasted into the BR period ('fraid I am completely ignorant of LMS maters being a Southern man!)
cheers

Hi,
just about at this point with a pair of coaches I building for a (non-paid) commission - a query - the air tank cylinders have a couple of protrusions on them - do these represent drain valves on the tank or are they just fixing brackets? - If the former I am guessing they should point down and towards the end - any comments?
cheers
Richard

Hi,
How do you mount your AJ couplings? Although I'm fine bending the hooks I always struggle when trying to fit them to a wagon!
Any hints and tips gratefully received!
