  1. just need the new tin of thinners to arrive for the varnish. some Muppet put a dirty brush in the wrong one! not sure if Matt or Satin would be best for it. I want it to look dirty but at the same time don't want it too look too dull
  2. Bit the bullet and set about weathering 70805. Pin washed, frame grime, roof soot/grime and some dark marks round the engine and oil filter doors. Went for a grimy finish as the last time i seen 05 was after a spell on the timber and it was filthy. Fairy happy for my first attempt at a loco, some things i could do diffrent or better one but thats just how it goes
  3. Class 70 number two has had a bit of a mishap. Phone went while removing the numbers and turns out it was just enough time for thinners to eat into the main livery A quick patch up with colas dull orange which is a closer match to the real thing than the Bachmann paint job looking more faded has resulted in a rather odd square So what to do. Try and fade the rest of the paint and put the new logos over the top using oils or decal and try hide it with the planned weathering. This is unknown teritory for me so any pointers would be great!
  4. Nice easy job tonight. First 70 for renumbering. Tamiya lacquer made light work of the factory printed numbers and logos. Decals are railtec colas dimonds and class 70 fleet number pack. One of them was always going to be 70816. The second loco im thinking of 70805 which i know has already been done by Bachmann but i have my reasons. Did think of doing 812 with its one yellow head light or 814 with mixed logos but they might follow if more are aquired. Weathering to follow at some point
  5. same issue at my end when trying to pre order a pair of DCC ready ones
  6. quickly discovering what an absolute minefield Mk1 charter stock differences is....

  7. no one stuck the legs of a green LED over a watch battery and ran them with the lid positioned slightly open for the authentic green glow yet... my pack arrived today, stunning wagons but lets be honest did we expect anything less from Accurascale
  8. New locos have arrived, 70811 at long last. Out the box I was suprised how light these are. Some haulage tests with the cement wagons are in order i think. Another thing while looking at the instruction booklet was the day/night switch. Lights on the locos go between day and markers only. Other than those points they are rather nice models. Planned works for these are to change out the drivers, renumber/weather and sound fit them at somepoint. Two of these will become 70805 and 70816 Also got a bargin rake of Bachmann mk1s which look like all are going to require some level of repaint. Not a clue what charter rake to go for yet but WCRC is a very likely option or SRPS
  9. Small sort of between major project update. Was hoping to be nearly done with these but other things have taken priority. Small session back modelling, Bachmann mk2s have had the end plates fitted and a inital hit of filler. Still a bit more sanding and filling to do but have managed to get to halfords and get a can of filler primer which should help speed things up. Next for a clean, repair and paint was the 3d printed NVA i started about a year back. Was ever 100% happy with the paint, roof had a dip in it where i cracked it joining the halfs and to add insult to injury i managed to crack the flat end stripping the paint off it. All glued and a hit of body filler just need to throw some paint at it to check what needs sanded. I do have a couple of projects planned involving mk1s and three colas 70s to tart up so hopefully get a bit more done in the coming months
  10. damn all my test stock is post 31 withdrawal. it might be time to dig out the abandoned SGT optical car to give me an excuse. Lights are a little bit off putting for me. Nice addition but as jim has said, only visible on camera and not too the naked eye
  11. Would be intrested in a BUO for sure. The interior of the ones on the test trains are totally untouched from the sleeper days. From what im told from the guys that work it they are basicly toilet coaches due to the retention tanks being fitted to them
  12. Thank you, brake gear was from a guy called midland_valenta on ebay. Great upgrade kit
  13. Northern belle 1953 a step closer to being done, just need to find the evergreen plastic bits i stored in a "safe" location. Box of goodies through the door yesterday in the form of mk1 duel fitted brake bits. Not that you can see much of it with the being painted black but still rounds off the underframe changes quite well. Also in the pictures is the fuel tank i make up and the various underslung boxes i have moved about using video stills of the coach as a ref. Turns out most only take pictures of the shiney loco on the front! And some better pictures of 43277 which heads back to its owner on the 29th. Really happy with it and i think it would be rude not to get some pictures of it on some test stock so expect them later in the week
  14. New toy this week... well for me anyway. My brother has given me a ender 3. Its most likely due to his new rapid prototyping one arriving or he was fed up of me wanting stuff printed. But what to make first, finishing off 999606. Was lucky enough to pass through the prototype a month back and have made up a fairly close to prototype interior. Humming away and the painted article. Just a quick brush paint job wont see much of it until the interior and external lights are done. The genny compartment makes a perfect spot to hide a decoder. Just the table tops and work stations to make out of plasticard. Quite happy with that. No doubt be more bits for various projects printed when i think of them
  15. managed a fair bit this weekend between jobs on the car. Northern belle mk1 is almost done. Fuel tank printed and painted, few bits moved about on the underframe. Just the air brake equipment and exhaust to fit. Few small paint touch ups as well. And of course 43277. Driver who im painting this for wanted it weathered. I have never weathered a loco so was a little bit stressful but think i have got the balance of running grim and light body side streaks about right. Finished in satin varnish so it looks used but not to manky. Pic are prior to satin varnish and are still glossy but you get the idea. He is happy with it so thats made it worth the effort. Need to think what the next project will be now these are done
  16. cant wait to see it finished with the blue light. certainly an odd site when its running about in the dark. its on my hit list to do at some point
  17. Thanks, unfortunately all the door gubbins made getting a dead straight line down the side near impossible. I am my own worst critic however. The second kitchen/dining car is in the panning stage and the WCRC 57s are just waiting there turn in the paint shop. Few aircraft kits in front of them but hopefully wont be too long before i get them turned out
  18. Been a min, Northern belle 1953 has progressed well the last few days and is not far from being complete. Everything losely dropped together for a pic Recent videos of the northen belle show 1953 having gained the name Caerdydd so i have fired them on. Most of the remaining work is on the underframe adding air brake equipment and the diesel tank and exhaust for the onboard genny Hopefully have it and 43277 totally finished off this time next week
  19. looks like you had better luck with the T cut than I did, 062 ended up being a full repaint in the end. As for 977994 I am part way through painting my one. The main difference I noticed with the standard Hornby TGS was the additional smaller half of the door is removed on the test coach to leave a standard style MK3 door. Sure there are most likely other diffrences in the underframe ect but that's the most obvious I found
  20. Slowly pushing on with the 43 and MK1 Mk1 has had a couple touch ups and is ready for gloss coat 43277 is also progressing well. Few touch ups on the black where the edges on the masking tape have lifted a bit of the paint or bits I have buffed back and a small bit of yellow needing a touch up but nothing major. Owners happy with the progress Nice letter full of railtec goodies arrived to finish these off and for the next two locos.
  21. Finally dragging this one out the back burner box of projects. Mk1 1953 northern belle kitchen coach. Quick pass with rainbow railways newly released northen belle maroon. Hopefully progress this over the next few weeks. The main work has been the second 43277. Stripped back and first coat of yellow on. Light sand back and a second coat next week and hopefully the orange as well.
  22. its hard to judge now that they have had time to fade. 802 back in 2014 does seem a bit lighter than say the yellow on a 43 Not too much of an issue for myself as they are going to get a good dose of weathering. If anyone is feeling really keen the Bachmann model is missing the bolt holes along the side for the maintenance staging
  23. 814 was running about with hats one end and diamonds the other for a while. 811s to get diamonds on it fairly soon by all accounts. Either way im fairly skint now. Three on preorder with the local shop. two to renumber to 805 and 806 or 816. not decided yet
  24. class 70 re run would be a very welcome addition, especially in colas livery. not so friendly on the bank account mind you maybe save that one for the autumn announcement!
