20th Anniversary of the South Dublin Model Railway Club club rooms. I had a grand day at South Dublin’s Open Day yesterday, many great layouts on show but the Adavoyle layout stole to show for me, first time seeing it in operation. Pictures of this layout below. Very impressed with the Club building and facilities. Many thanks for the invitation, great welcome and hospitality.

KIRLEY JUNCTION – GNRI Trains After completing the 3 new Provincial Wagon kits I decided to run them with other GNRI Stock. The big ‘D’, SG Class on the Goods and No. 171 on the Passenger.

Now they look the part, nice job on them.

KIRLEY JUNCTION – GNRI 6 & 4 Plank Wagons Provincial Wagons latest offering, GNRI Open Wagons, 6 plank and 4 plank height. When I first saw photographs of this model, I thought the lettering was wrong as I couldn’t see the Railway Company having to stencil over the bracing but Leslie showed me a photograph confirming it. These are 3D printed bodies and are very easy to put together. I used a different coupling mount 3D printed by Stephen McCotter of the Ulster Model Railway Club. I had to use a decal softener to get the lettering to sit over the iron work. A bit of light weathering to complete.

KIRLEY JUNCTION - MGWR 6-wheel coaches A number of years back I bought and build some MGW 6-wheel coaches using Alphagraphix card kits and scratch build chassis. While they were okay, I was never completely happy with them mainly down to my poor build. I got Owen O’Neill from Cork to print some 4-wheel flat wagons and I was so pleased with them I approached him to re-create the MGWR coaches and he was prepared to take on the challenge. There were quite a few prototypes before he mastered a technique of doing them. They arrived as separate sides and roofs but also had complete internal walls and seating. I used the existing chassis I had built for the card models so that cut down the work involved. Used British Racing Green gloss and Railtec decals. Brake/3rd 1st/3rd All 3rd All 1st 1st Saloon

I see Colm Flannigan's influence of a multi country layout (Arglass, Coleraine and Stranraer) has spread, and why not. Will some parts of your layout reflect a Scottish track scene Andy?

Sligo 0-6-4T Locomotive Lough Erne Ever since I saw #27 in RPSI Whitehead I wanted to do a model of it but because of its unusual wheel configuration I could not convert an RTR locomotive and there was no 00 scale brass kit available. I eventually talked Tony Ragg into doing an etch for me. The ability for doing a ‘CAD’ drawing and converting it into etched parts was way beyond my skills and I appreciated him taking me through the process including the making of a card model before doing the etch. The chassis parts were very well designed and easy to put together with tabs/slots included to ensure everything lined up properly. SLNC Rolling Stock SLNC Open Wagon Thanks to Ernie’s wonderful photo archive I got a glimpse of an open wagon with these heavy supports on the outside of the body. Gareth Brennan donated a Cambrian kit which I adapted to look like the SLNC’s one. Just to add the brake gear and paint. Finished of the Cambrian wagon conversion and added two of Provincial Wagons Covered Vans to the rake.

SL&NC Railway I'm on a bit of a SLNC's kick at the moment with two SL&NCR Tri-Composite Coachs No.10 & 11 adapted from Ratio MR coach kits plus 3 Cattle Wagons from Provincial Wagons. Had to get the GNRI to provide the engine power.
