  1. John, sorry to hear that you are now both isolating and trust that you will both overcome without any of the longer-term effects.
  2. As oI unders-tand it Londooners do not ave an aksent - evere-bode lse dus!
  3. I too while on 'Greyhound' was given a contact and therefore also had a very enjoyable trip round San Francisco provided by the Yellow Cab man Mr Pettit. This also included a steak evening and the funny thing in this context was the size of the steak. When I commented they moved it larger rather then the expected smaller portion. After some weeks back-packing it was great and I was also provided with a hotel room for a couple of nights. A memory that stays with me is of one of the tram brakes failing and the frantic attempt of the conductor in waving every car out of the way while pulling hard on 'the lever' ... thankfully successfully.
  4. Great news Ade, hope you enjoy many happy hours in 'the shed'.
  5. Jamie, I thought you went to France not Australia!
  6. Hang on , how come that there is a complete cake ... you must be slipping.
  7. The snag is that a lot of these 'modern' cars have no mechanical handbrake and I am not happy with that although they say you get used to them. On the subject of fuel tanks I think that small one are a ridiculous idea as also the small spare wheel ... especially since having ton use one on the motorway and the 'problems' of only travelling at 50 mph. Stop/start - only works when the battery is above 73% on mine - a Peugeot 308 and quite honestly it has been of no use where it would be most effective viz traffic jams.
  8. Not a 'shadow of your former self' Agree. The problem as I see it are the people who have been ignoring 'the need'. I also agree with Gwiver re the likelihood of crowded trains etc. C*******s will be the first time in many years will be on our own, as we have been basically since March.
  9. Too low waistbands seems to be a common theme in all menswear. The other thing is this idea of going up in 2" categories for size. This means that the 'lower' size is just too tight and the 'next size up' needs a tight belt to stop them falling down. That in itself is uncomfortable. Just when will the trade come to the idea that 1" , computer design etc can do this easily for cutting, is needed because 2" is one great jump up.
  10. The 'spout' is hard and long - something that is impossible to fabricate out of a plastic sheet - so easy to push into the space without mess (had to be careful with wording here) - just wish something like that had been available some years ago.
  11. We've been in Covid long enough for the telephone 'excuse' to have been sorted. Banks and BT must be among the worst. Also discovered that 'Her Mees' have a telephone number but it is via a separate company that charge over £3 per minute! That's one way to stop people complaining as it would cost more than a package was worth. Incidentally on day 4 we gave up with them trying to pick up and took it to a shop BUT the 'gentleman' shop keeper seemed to have no idea of social distancing and/or the use of a mask and had no surface on whch it could be put down on for safe transfer. We have been told that it has been picked up. Conversely again DPD picked up yesterday pm and have already confirmed delivery of said item.
  12. Yes George. Thanks. Deesdale Road in store at present but thinking about an N-gauge modelled on it. Enjoyed building Cadley Hill during lockdown and now need to sell it to gain some room but not sure how to go about that. Cheers, Peter
  13. George, your skill level and scratch building are amazing.
  14. Wow! The advantage of N might well be that you will then have space for building yet another of those amazing OO layouts.
  15. NHN As a retired FIBMS your Dr Rachel Glover's excellent presentation covers everything important about (not just Covid) but the general way of working through a new virus or in fact other infections. I would urge other RM ERs to work through it.
  16. Finally got around to watching the video and a treat after the mug shots all brought back pleasant memories, not to mention the personal renditions on guitar of some of my favourites. As an aside John Rostill, who came later in the Shadows, was in the same year and house at school.
  17. Hi Guys, There has recently bee some comments on couriers. We have been told by 'Home Ees' that our parcel would be picked up between 0800 and 2000 hours - but that was three days ago ... very frustrating to say the least. Their 'chat' was no help whatsoever that led me to tell them that at the end of it. Apologies rant over and now calmness reigns as I go through all the posts. Strange as it may seem 'DeePeeDee' delivered one, at the time they said they would in the beginning, on the dot!
  18. NCT61315 - your video was very interesting. Not many cars and the odd motorcycle. What did come across was the number of bicycles and the huge number of people walking and in particular just crossing anywhere and many without any sign of looking before they ventured out or just going anyway. Also the odd car taking off and doing what we now call cutting up the already moving traffic i.e. the tram. The overall impression however ws of serene peace in Leipzig.
  19. Sorry to hear about Beth but, on the positive side, you now know what you are dealing with. Rant? 'are all volunteers' - one of the concerns I have in this context is why firms are found guilty on H&S grounds when one of these 'volunteers' falls through a factory/warehouse roof and is seriously injured. H&S is also a personal responsibility and the 'volunteer' has decided that the 'risk' is worth taking in spite of the fact that factory/warehouse roofs are known to be 'weak' and that special equipment needs to be used when 'working' on the roof. To me the 'volunteer' deserves everything that he/she gets.
  20. Chris F, having worked in an operating theatre during my student days neither gastroscopy nor colonoscopy are undertaken lightly. I can understand the effect on you of an incomplete clearance and have seen a surgeon 'red with rage' in feeling for a patient who was to be subjected to the colonoscopy who had obviously not been cleared. I would hate either but of the two colonoscopy would in itself be less traumatic and as ID stated may result in the removal of a benign polyp that is better 'out than in'.
  21. And I seem to recollect that one of the players (cannot now remember Wales or Ireland but he had played some form of rugby for three countries) played for England as a youth and then Ireland youth teams or something like that and someone now qualified because he now had sufficient residence in Ireland.
  22. GDB Did you actually miss last night's rugby? Ireland beat Wales last night but the real winner was penalties. What I did notice was the new Irish scrum half's service and the Irish follow-up was generally breath taxingly fast. Like everybody else the rain is making it a gloomy day but it will be totally occupied by shredding ... SWMBO has finally persuaded me to get rid of 60 years worth of bank and credit card statements as we are running our of room.
  23. Mobile hairdressers belonging to their association or whatever have a set of criteria ... SWMBOs is sitting out during the lockdown.
