  1. Slightly off topic but whenever class 26 blue is mentioned it stirs a memory of the 60s on a fine day and the Oban Highland games with the crew siting on the rocks above eating their sandwiches - I can picture it now so thanks.
  2. Fresh winds = trees in big pots blown over. Fortunately at the time the highly expected rain did not appear but, now when the odds were much much less we have rain bashing against the windows. Fortunately I am in doors and still able to comment or tick as I am waiting for plaster to dry and harden before I do any more damage to the 7' thing on trestles the thas had modified scenic changes - no0t sure if it was a good choice. Hope Jamie finds his 'box' without having to turn he news decoration. Many years since we had a dog but she preferred to add to our supply of sticks when walking in the forest but was a dab hand at puncturing our lads air-filled balls (I much prefer rugby and to be fair he does now possess a Gilbert) and did play it a bit. Would hate to be a council worker having to cleanup not only the litter but also the 'mess' that itself is capable of containing a certain live virus according to earlier studies made. Now the sun is out ... cheers have been able to get to the end after the usual forgotten password intro ... wonder will never cease.
  3. Today fixed the near end scenic hills onto the backboard. Compared to the bridge that was completed satisfactorily this morning it was easy. Also discovered a Metcalfe signal box and loco shed hidden away and have temporarily put them on the layout. While not 'modern quality' they do not really look out of place so may well stay. Thats it today folks - thanks for reading.
  4. Time was when I used to listen to most of the music you quoted but these days there are so many posts and getting timed out by it seems my AV from suggestions received from members so hope that I can go on. My apologies to others as I've just noticed this was Wednesday and was one I hadn't read so I'm afraid I will nip to Friday apologising for what I will have missed. But Best wishes and condolences as necessary.
  5. Hi Guys, Update from a better day. Have completed the 'hinge covers' and SWMBO said that she couldn't see them ... I had also painted the cable clips black to visually help the 'deception'. The front one took a lot longer to work out than the far one with the cut off corner - looking for old window pictures on the web and even then modifying it to become a double window. There are doors on the other sides. The second picture is how it is this evening. The plaster dried and hardened overnight so today tried to cut out 'the join and bits of plaster fell off so before redoing inserted a folded sheet of PVC in the gap and remastered the area to the bridge. It would have been nice if the bridge had been possible to place beyond the folding 'arc' but there was not enough room so it plus bit of hill scenery will have to be come and added item on set-up. Later sanded and painted the far hills with forest green fence paint as a basis and to show up irregularities ... some more work on it will be required tomorrow plus, hopefully, to be able to separate the bridge area cleanly. NB The U-area in the background is part of the Rothleigh and Swithmore layout ... well will be worked on again sometime.
  6. Sorted by other means. Frustrating day otherwise foam would have done the job in 'seconds' (we do speed up time in model railway terms), while the plaster has still not hardened probably because it was too wet.
  7. Hi Guys, Managed to get to the end tonight but what I have noticed on a number of blogs is that items that had suddenly become [you do not have permission) are coming up. The one that was on this space has now been cancelled and this in its place. How nice to be able to get to all the latest tonight and comment ... at leas I think all have 'added'. While 'away' have noted things that I know nothing about e.g. Florence and HH etc on boilers and food - something that I eat because I have to to survive but one of the advantages of that is that I can eat the same thing repeatedly rather than eat many things that I know will cause a problem even so called seasoning spoils. SWMBO hates doing two meals and only does the 'really awful one' that I cannot even be in the house for on those rare occasions when away work wise so these days does not. IL Ds comments, John of Coombe etc, I find very interesting. Andy P now in his element ... Thanks for reading.
  8. No photographs todaytgrying to put the fixed part of the back scene support up and glue the foam to it. The intension was to use foam to stick it in and fill-in all the gaps ... the foam did not work so half a tin wasted. (Just a query - if it is solid in the tube u=into the can is it practical to drill down to clear it or in reality are these things once used impossible to really use gain even after the acetone clean-up when last used). Also managed to get a big splinter in my thumb that slowed things up a bit plus bit of plaster was used to help seal the gaps. We will see if anything comes of it tomorrow morning ... wish I had not decided to only use what is available - my 5L can of PVA is at the club. Thanks to those of you currently looking in.
  9. Just getting into Cadley Hill with the proviso that everything on it must be already present - it has already presented some problems that in one case showed the value of keeping 'little bits' of odds and s8ds.
  10. I have had ideas of a name change e.g. Neverhill. Today I concentrated on 'doing something' to hide the hinges ... and of course had to account for the bit of hinge support that had to be removed to allow longer locomotives to pass in the fiddle yard that will likely always be seen. Modifications are necessary to make them look good but a bit of luck with some 'weathered wood' has helped. An old gatepost top - it is surprising what can be hoarded although to be fair it was to be used as a template for a replacement. The hills need support so that was the secondary function and the 'added' bit now has 6mm wood 6mm MDF bits a bit if square wood to hold the initial addition and now a space piece of wood and then a block screwed into it X 5 to enable a piece of hardboard kept from a pre 1975 N-gauge layout the was run on a coffee table to be at last reutilised (the modern word is recycled). The good news is that it is fun trying to work it all out. The hinge coverers: Now to look up topics that I follow before yet again it suddenly stops me 'ticking' or adding comments.
  11. Hi Guys, Fooled myself looking at the above picture as the new photographs ar taken from the other end. Right well, not happy with the space available for the scenery at the back so replaced the 'added' bit with 3" but with no 12 mm had to use two X 6mm - a bit of wood and the rest from MDF - as I have made it a 'rule' that everything that goes into making this layout must come from stuff already available. I had thoughts on renaming as it would not look anything like Cadley Hill and had painted some wood blue last night as this was going to be the background ... You will therefore notice the 'hotch patch' on the left. Looking around I found some Celotex and decided to try it out. It will work but will need a support. I found a bridge and looked to see if it would fit - yes but not where it was actually wanted viz. at the hinge - so planned it in. Scenery will have to adjust to allow for the hinge. While it will be fictitious it will remind me of CAdley Hill as I then added the hilly land around and the bridge could just be the A444 that actually does go over the top of part of the former mine working area. So the second picture is where these two items will be. That means the hinges are visible so now to find a way to hide them ... tomorrow? The pictures have come out in the wrong order!
  12. Well the last one registered then came then on coming back so yet again needed to reset PW. Then when I decided to add this content one that I wrote over a week ago came up for 'saving' Having said that a long interesting read so it is now 0110 hours so, sleep well.
  13. Hi Guys, Been able to flick through, go to a number of 'follows' go out and get back in after the initial 'forgot password' initiation but this time much quicker because my email was 'left on'. We will see if I can return tomorrow. Some interesting reads although soy above my grade in railway terms. Sorry about the F15 pilot. Again, the above did not go out on last visit ... still variable response that suddenly starts with ticks not registering and then the usual 'no permission'. It even came up on my 'regulars' as 'no permission'. I have been through a number of blogs tonight so will try to post this, close down and then retry to see what happens. TTFN
  14. Oops Andy - Ade mine came from LED Hut and yes, they are brighter than fluorescent and use less power.
  15. Had a brainwave the other night so found a couple of lengths from a former layout, tacked them to the back and then modified the track so that the 5th line looked as if it might belong (see Andy's original track plan - in practice it changed and now changed again). Added a point and a bit of a curve so potentially can place an 08 in the shunt. The difficult bit will be sorting out the scenery as the wiring, track and points all work (slight hitch as the concrete track is not Peco 100 and mine is). Had to cut some of the hinge support away to allow a larger locomotive to run through. Please do not look at the background although I have now indexed (took a few days) 200 Chinese take away plastic boxes there is still a lot to be tidied up. The indexing has paid off already - in earlier times I had to go through all the boxes to find the 'correct' one now they all have numbers so look up, locate, use, or at present add something else fitting the description into the box. May also add the Gunbox N-gauge layout also recently built now I have been able to access (famous last words?).
  16. Congratulations to you both and best wishes for the future for your granddaughter.
  17. Hi Tony and oops - cannot remember the name but thanks also to the member who sent me a message a week or two ago. Chrome and Firefox attempted. The former downloaded and was used but access to 'the Webb' was similar to Safar - so 'forgotten password' had to be used with same result.. Firefox would not download ... This entry was via Safari and I will see how long it lets me on as I browse through the blogs.
  18. Hi Guys again. Well it didn't last - cut off again by the 'you do not have permission' but heigh ho back on and trying to catch-up. Thanks for your support.
  19. Looks like the crumpets are repeating!
  20. The last recorded page was 8701 ... so no way will I be able to 'catch-up' but, as you can see I have been able to go on to other threads and have been able to return. All going well I will be able to follow this thread from now on.
  21. Hi Guys, Having got into the site I thought of adding a comment before it cut me off. You will have noticed that at times I have been able to 'like' etc. for a time and then told that I 'did not have permission'. On the basis that it is my end - my intent went down to 'time to get a cuppa' before I needed to do tenet thing. Hopefully, after once agin clearing all 'cookies' and resetting as well as one or two other aspects I hope that 'the problem' is solved this time ... time will tell. Hope everyone is getting on well and that BoD's concern has eased. Liked the poem from memory loss for the minute but the lady from North Wales. Clubwise an 'external Extraordinary General Meeting' has been organised to formerly vote in a co-opted during Covid-19 Treasurer via proposals from the Chair and myself. It is surprising how many members do not have email so they have been sent out letters with a voting slip to either support or decline formal status while email members had other means to vote. It is interesting as all four voting options needed for completion are working so I know that all members received the covering letter in one way or another. The 'external meeting' has been given a reasonable time to allow the post to get through with time to respond. One to two members also provided a note on how they were coping - rather nice to see. Let's go onto 'content I follow' and see what happens. Best wishes, Peter
  22. Wow, this one did but the previous did not but included: Test Track and Trace Climate change and and agreement that the Atlantic would move more slowly because of the reduced temperature gradient when the ice cap melts and a 12th century 'warming' with an 18th century extreme cold. Covid-19 difference by statistics between'actual' and 'statistical' likelihood and incidentally that there have been 200 odd changes in the virus since its probable transfer to humans in October 2019 -... which leads to a possible thought that some of us n=might have had it around Christmas - mildly but for 3/52 or so ... its a thought. Those who e.g. went to Durdle Door etc and where, in the absence of the public toilet blocks, they might have received themselves ... going to Darwinism prospects. Has this one stayed on?
