  1. Take a look at AndyP's 'snails-pace' layout building! Beats me how he does it.
  2. Gosh going back way over 30 years on the 'sausage front' dog but it did have a little neck help by the owner.
  3. Like the 'pirates' quote … reminded me of a parking problem we had at the Lizard some years back … took a month or two to sort out some dishonesty but, while we liked the Lizard, as a result of that experience we will never return. Embroidery and cushions look fabulous.
  4. Congratulations and commiserations as required. Well folks what is life without computer for days and then when you get access find that there is no internet and therefore also no television. The numbeer of pagez in a fu daze is ginormouse so apologees if my scimmin has mist some veye-tal , important, entertainin ore distressin feetures. Eye promis 2 reed the nects fu daze if I hav akces 2 a computa. Positives -GD likes the N-gauge recently built for her in a wooden gun-case … the idea just pick up the case and you have everything, track, controller, stock and cars, the last two in a divided box permanently fixed to the lid of the gun-case that appropriately supports the lid level when open It is however quite heavy. Popped round to see Andy P's latest a few days ago. Cheers, Peter
  5. The heat from the soldering would surely be seen as 'de-feet-ting'!
  6. Should go down well provided there are not too many 'silly moos' and 'baah...ing accidents'.
  7. John, I totally agree about mens' shorts and like you prefer them to be above the knee - perhaps that's why I do not seem to wear shorts these days.
  8. Unfortunately oil-seed rape is a real 'hay-fever' problem for me but thankfully in our nearby area this year there is none. Peter
  9. How time flies - not a peep on Deesdale Road for nearly two years. Swad Lane (now sold) and family priorities led to that so why a post now? The next village has an Annual Gala and they have difficulty getting people into the village hall - no problem with lots of outside things going on in the field - and I was contacted by the organisers after a friend gave the my information about model railways. They contacted me and chatting to them I thought it would be good to show locals aspects of a local MRG and agreed that Gresley and Wychnor MRG members would provide three items. A fantastic 3 1/2" County of Stafford (working steam locomotive) hand built over a large number of years, Bob started it as an apprentice with hand tools finished in 2017, and is now retired! An 009 Badgers Halt 4' x2' and my 21 ft Deesdale Road that had been stored ... Deesdale Road retrieved from 'dusty storage' for checking, track cleaned and tested - every section ran. Some bits of cleaning took place and off to the Overseal Gala 13th July 2019 - today. One small electrical problem on the fiddle yard while setting up but put right and sound running with no problems all day. The icing on the cake - the organisers came in and told us that we were the star, visitors had been heard asking their friends if they had seen the railway and we had a steam of visitors throughout and 48 flyers (only 50 taken as we did not know what to expect from a non model railway event), two further requests and a positive face to face agreement to be part of the Swadlincote Festival of Transport in 2020. We had previously noticed large numbers of cars parked on the grass in front of the clubhouse, investigated why they were there and Committee had decided to investigate - we now know the answer to our question and are also aware that there is a movement to get the Ivanhoe line reopened for passenger transport to Leicester and have been asked to provide a working model in the local Sharps Museum. The day was not only a good running day and fun but surprisingly positive and has also let more people know that we are around and local. Edit there are a couple of photographs around but not to hand.
  10. Pleased to see that a student who had some difficulties in understanding aspects of the course obviously worked very hard on two fronts and well deserves his class 1 honours.
  11. Only just sorted this one - looking great and now on 'follow' so will not miss. Need to remove a few from follow - its getting crowded. Peter
  12. Moved in the early 80s - used to spend a lot of time with Mr Slator when in Lechlade.
  13. TheQ - Colds , runny nose, sore throat take xxxxxxx and it makes xxxxxxx all difference.. strepcils are easing the throat slightly. A hot toddy will follow shortly. This cold is raging round the factory at the moment.. Perhaps that's why the builders are in the plastic tent.. It took them just 2 hours to remove the wall, Not necessarily a cold but reactions from all the dust, debris and 'bugs' around as a result of it.
  14. Well, after 4 days of intermittent internet hopefully it is now stable. Apologies if I have skimmed too quickly through and congratulations and condolences as needed. 81C will no doubt find out if the above was a direct result of what had happened or a reason why it happened if contacted. I have to admit that I could understand both scenarios ... In other actions hope a sale comes quickly for you so that you can go forward. Enough said. Keep cheerful.
  15. Purr-fect responses from Il Dottore and Chris F in response to Mike's loss and condolences given. Very impressed by the thought and practical memorial application to ensure that the local wildlife does not desiccate such a well loved cat. Peter
  16. John, great to see that Sandy is progressing and able to do things that we all generally take for granted - true progress, long may it continue. Peter
  17. Catch up so John sorry to hear about Scrumpy and Natalie - wow, what a mind blowing narrative - but also showing us that not only our talents but where and how they are used affects us all at some time but glad to hear that ER has helped.
  18. Yes John, do remember Monitor. Like the idea of 'proof' of a child having fun - but prefer the prints. As grandparents it was great to go on holiday with a pre-school child who was not afraid of climbing or walking 4 miles on a beach but the favourite was hide-and-seek.
  19. Thank you for keeping us informed. Congratulations to you both Sandy and John for the last 6/12 plus and the daily progression updates. The diary and the pictures show how things have improved. Alongside the treatment I have also found your reaction and comments on the students to be very interesting - some of it mirrors aspects and of the days when FE students could get £30 provided that they had signed 'certificates' from the lecturers, as some thought just for 'turning up'. I was not the most popular in refusing to sign but never changed the decision so they knew that more had to be done rather than just turning up ... my pass rates were, thankfully, quite high. In terms of practical assessment external assessors were also told that they were expected to fail any who were not up to standard, 100% pass rate, just for the sake of it looking 'good', was unacceptable.
  20. John - Great idea on MacDonald's and the statistics that went with it.
  21. Jamie, as you say, although not good because of the result Mel's daughter must be relieved to know that she could not have done more. Burst aortic aneurism - from fat deposits on the blood vessel walls that make them weaker and the aorta has maximum pressure. Remember one who survived - twenty pints taken in the ambulance, cross-matched while they were on their way 'the old manual two-hour technique' at the old GRH in the 70s, with the results telephoned to the BRI before the ambulance arrived. Thankfully I was in the lab already on a call-out (it was a Saturday afternoon) but it was one h8ll of an afternoon session but with a good end result. You remember these times and like now with the 'trigger' you can still picture them.
  22. Haven't you forgotten your very early 009? ... Just for the record I do not remember you mentioning a 'G' but what a range! Just bit to 'old' to think about 12" to the 1'. And learning - absolutely the master teacher!
  23. Condolences to Jamie LightEngine and others in similar circumstances . Get well soon to Rick and continue on the road to health Debs and Sandy and John and anyone else ailing. Having to try to skim through postings so not so many 'reactions' as when you miss a day or two there are so many posts and my computer, thanks Andrew C for earlier help - its replacement will be a laptop, has become so slow that a friend who is not bad on computers had a look and said that it would 'drive him to drink' which, bearing in mind he is teetotal, was quite a conclusion. Appreciated all the D-Day Remembrance and was also aware of Italy and Burma from numerous Remembrance Day parades, as a brassband member, being a young friend of other veterans of the time, including some of the earlier 'Old Contemptibles' of which a number of uncles were among their numbers. The other thing I remember about those early days was the sheer numbers of people attending them up to the mid-fifties. Over the years I have gradually seen their numbers deplete. My own father had the experience of being told basically "Sorry (old? he was not) man we appreciate you volunteering but there is no way you are fit enough to serve (he had TB) so joined the Home Guard. An uncle was not so fortunate and my brother had his name as a middle name. Seeing Harry Read, a great character and one time head of the Salvation Army (minister) training college, parachuting was a surprise - I knew him some years ago but had no idea of his wartime service - as is/was probably quite common with a lot of other men and women. This itself has just reminded me that an aunt was a war time ambulance driver so probably saw some overseas service. Enough.
