  1. John,

Have been without RMweb for a while because of computer problems.  Andy P let me know that Sandy had passed away.  Your loving caring and tenderness in all you did for Sandy and the way you kept us informed of a very strong courageous lady gave us a real insight just how brave Sandy was and how steadfast you were during that time including caring for Kerry who must also be missing Sandy.  My thoughts and prayers as also from other RMwebbers are with you.

      Thank you, Peter.

  2. I've run into that problem and it seems tone the result of Mac or PC ,English or American - some have hash on the key and other shave the dollar sign on the key and you are unable to access the 'one you want' at the time you wanted it. Have also come to grief with he 'will not answer telephone call send an email' when you have bee locked out of the email' not to mention that 'XY' still do not support Mac's when it comes to AV issues. Hope Aditi has recovered.
  3. Happy Birthday Mrs Baz and Mrs GDB; Flu jabs - our surgery is now very efficient - book in 'next' (are you allergic to eggs) as they have multiple 'jabbers' working. So much better than the old days when if you arrived at 0830 you were on the end of a very long queue. Jamie hope Beth recovers quickly. ASCII, computers and mobile telephones ... not a clue, Internet banking ... it would help if it worked!
  4. Apologies for the major typo error yesterday and pleased to hear that in spite of all Sandy is still active. Your climate change information and its relationship to the last ice-age was/is very thought provoking - thanks.
  5. Hi Guys, best wishes and condolences as needed after a fairly long absence. Too much I think to catch up, but have lost track of John and Sandy although have noticed on this page that Debs is thankfully back. Quite a summer plus one way and another with a son and family move that wasn't an option being told 2 days before that it was the wrong one so having to restock plus another child sleepover etc. and being reminded not to pack anything as the team would only unpack it under their insurance . - completed just before the rain came... the contracted removal team arrived, saw what was needed, showed their paperwork - just load and carry - great news! ... they rang their own company and a stoke of luck because another lorry was on site and they had turned up to load and were not expected so they were asked to come and assist. Seven and a half hours later in one way or another six of us had packed and emergency arrangements made to sleep on the floor. The removal men turned up on time in the new place but where was the key person? A while later a car appeared and recognised my son and they had a chat eventually leading to "Why are you here?" - "Waiting for a key" that led to looking down a list ... here it is see you later. As you can imaging not seeing the house before and with chaotic packing it took some time just to get the bits out but there was hope - "Stuff stuff in the garage" if we have no idea. This sort of thing may be familiar to some of you. The complications - a turbulent pregnancy, a baby due some time after the move came early, the car broke down in the hospital car park (the AA were fantastic in attendance and help) but the part to enable a gear to be selected had to specifically come from France because there were none in UK, not long after water was running down an upstairs light and it turns out a tile was missing- fortunately sorted immediately ... well a few days later and there is still problem with a continuous water flow in a loo cistern , apparently not urgent in spite a gallons of water running to waste. There were some periods without internet activity and with a mobile that only allows calls and texts, not even photographs not much external contact. To be honest I did not miss it because there was so much else to do as also there has been since coming home. My own computer is now apparently too old and an email takes forever e.g. 96 characters took nearly three minutes to appear and if I spot a mistake and go back the rest of what I was typing goes into that 'error correction' space - a nightmare. Now to why I have finally managed to take the plunge to get back into Early Risers: I have received a request from our local Children's Ward at Burton DHC (UH of Dand B NHS FT to give the full initials). 'This year we would like to decorate our Children's Ward with a theme of the Polar Express ... I was really hoping that we would be able to find a willing club that could help us produce a magical train track running through a Christmas Tree (artificial tree in stock) with a train that runs from top to bottom' I have copied this to our club members but would welcome any help/advice/procurement/loan on the provision and working of a helix. PMs would be welcome. Many thanks, cheers, Peter

  7. The photographs are good but even they do not do justice to what it is really like 'in the flesh' - great evening last night.
  8. Sounds good ... but we had a shed with a gap underneath that was 'sealed' but still rats managed to occupy until we rid them.  Hope you don't have the same problem.  Cheers, Peter BB

Yes good point as we do have a fox who visits occasionally  and even rarer a badger.  I have put chicken wire between the support beams and as yet not seen any digging or scratching debris so fingers crossed.

  9. Probably couldn't stand the smell from the diesel so boycotted it. I see that you also had a 'purple patch'.
  10. The 1000 was OK, and was also drivable after someone side hit it and rolled it over, but the Herald was another story ... looks like you had a grand day out.
  11. Hi Norman, Yes, the fiddle yard point would not have been cleared by the 2'8"? currently available on the fiddle yard. For a moment I thought "Change the height of the cradle?' then no way as I remembered packing it into your car. I had to keep the 308SW (the cradle height of 87cm was specific for it) as I found that all the 'modern estates' were the shape of glorified hatchbacks! still have it. Apart from my Rothleigh and Swithmore (spelling of both changed because it is based but not prototype and on here as Rothleigh but nothing done for ages on it since ripping up what was there). I have decided that I will not in future model wider than 18" as a 24" layout is expensive on wood because the cradle requires 6'X3' rather than 4'X2' and overall becomes too wide for the stock boxes to go beside it in the car. Since Swad Lane I have built two small DC N-gauge layouts - one of them in a recycled wooden gun-box with a 3-platform station and 4 track yard, that was a challenge but works on a single power connection between the two, with everything contained, the stock box (only short locos and 2 coaches max and some wagons) fixed to the lid that also acts as the 'lid stop' to level the lid with the base when open, and there are 38 people on it. It was fun and granddaughter loves it. Hope it goes well, Peter
  12. Nice to see a comment and trust that you are now settled after the move. I used classes 153 and 150 for passengers so not three and initially the ones used were DC until modified for DCC. To get 3 coaches? the fiddle yard is not quite 4' long - would the extra inches to make it 4' be enough? and perhaps the station entrance could be moved to the end of the board at the shed end off scene ...bottom right coloured in picture might just allow three coaches. The fiddle yard might then could take a 3 coach on the station side and a 2 or DMU on the next line in - in that way you could still use the point. Just a thought. If you modified with tortoise points to fit the cradle the background scenery would need to be lowered. Hope that helps, cheers, Peter
  13. The reflections on your pond continue to amaze.
  14. Hi Guys, Congratulations and commiserations as needed. A lot has been going on- and - hopefully when I get the chance and available time will relate will try to relate … apart from DR at the next village it is a whole month since even seeing a model railway or train of any description. I have however seen a rusting signal in a village off the A303 not far from Stonehenge resulting from a missed turning so it was worthwhile. Best wishes to John and Sandy
  15. John and Sandy What a frustrating day waiting to be discharged no wonder Sandy had had enough. Unfortunately I can agree with the previous comments on pharmacies … it seems quite common for them to be last up and so much later than everything else. aving said that hope your trip down is pleasant and uneventful and that you both enjoy you time down South West Music choice - the escape plant took rather longer to accomplish than expected.
  16. Probably good value at the time but now it seems way past the sell-by date.
  17. Through all the trials and tribulation,s exceptionally so over the last year, the fortitude shown by Sandy, even providing a smile in the current situation, and yourself has been absolutely inspirational - a true fighter. Our thoughts and prayers remain with you as you take your holiday in a beautiful part of the country.
  18. Very sorry to hear that John so thinking and praying for you and Sandy. On the music I think Vaughan William's Tallis piece is one of his best. Peter
  19. He knows … as he is well acquainted with Sheffield.
  20. Ice-cream vans are allowed 7 seconds of music on arrival anywhere
  21. Totally agree, why is it that everyone assumes that you know … I have a Doro that I can use for calls and emails - not even photographs and definitely not apps. The other problem is when you do not have internet access and there is no telephone number to fall back on … give me paper every time bit not 12 pages for a simple bit of information. Also filled-in a gov thing for EV charging points policy etc. but there were nearly 50 pages and yet at no stage was there any thought that if all cars were electric then we need a more stable 24/7 suitable and sufficient power supply that for me means nuclear. Rant over.
  22. John, Sorry to hear about the set-back to a very brave lady. Thoughts continue to be with you both.
