  1. Of interest anyone know why 37160 had a bigger nose job (above the buffers cut away more) than other 37's and also seems to have less grills was it a test bed for some engine modifications? see also these https://flic.kr/p/gcLnwD https://flic.kr/p/cox24w Cheers Steve
  2. I believe it was diverted via the Erewash Valley Line not sure why though. Cheers

  5. many thanks for the comments, yes it's very enjoyable especially when it comes together. The best bits were the research - Flickr took a hammering as I checked and checked transfer positioning, the initial un masking after I had sprayed the Deltic ends was another good moment the 08/09 was approached differently where I kept the factory wasp ends by masking them and just spraying the blue. The other thing to do is take your time the Deltic came out way back in April I think and since then I've been checking the search function on this site to see how others do it and get all the bits together. But as others say the GBL locos provide an affordable base to learn new skills. Thanks again, Steve
  6. Finally got around to having a play with my Issue 7 Deltic This was my 1st ever repaint /re number job and involved a repaint and renumber job with detail added to the ends including adding extra handrails, what I was after was 55009 Alycidon in its last year of operation when transferred to York depot and didn't have its white window surrounds. Renumber , TOPS panel, headcode dots and York badge come from Fox Transfers Nameplate from A1 Models detailing comes from Craftsman Models Paint used was Halfords rattle cans with Vauxhall Mustard Yellow for the ends and Peugeot Royal Blue for the body, the blue looks lighter than some of my other Railblue locos but the effect I was after was a buffed up ex-repaint loco not a work stained oily dirty Deltic and I am pleased with how it came out. The other blue I looked at was Ford Fjord Blue as per a list on the forum but this looked even lighter. The GBL Deltic was an Ideal item to work on been low cost and a good confidence booster to have a go at other things. Here are the results As I say this gave me the confidence to have a go at converting my Hornby Railfreight Sound 08 into a Railblue class 09 including high level pipes hope you dont mind a photo of that too.. Cheers Steve

  8. Not been a member of any model railway club (other than the RMWeb club) it gives the at home modelers with limited space an opportunity to attend exhibitions as exhibitors and play trains which appeals to me. The benefits are hopefully if there are enough members up for it is that you could exhibit under the RMWeb banner at various events to show the public that you don't need a huge amount of space to model a line and the basic 1 or 2 lines on a board shouldn't be beyond the beginner. The problem I see is that people (me included) may be worried that they build a module and it doesn't fit hence my post earlier about a Baseboard Kit with legs that would be to the standards. Another problem is that if we were to exhibit somewhere Coventry Ricoh 2015, York 2016, Glasgow 2016 etc your limited to space or how many modules would commit so maybe need some backup boards. The other alternative is along the lines of Taunton RMWeb members day but on a more National scale to bring together those with modules and RMWebers in general. but overall Its a very interesting idea and one to watch how it goes. Cheers Steve
  9. I would also be interested in having a go and like the idea of some of the baseboard manufacturers been involved perhaps once standards have been agreed then they could also make a kit with baseboard, legs, backboard etc included. BRM magazine could also get involved to produce a paper template overlay so you know that your track will match up as i feel these would be the areas that will put people off if they think that they make a board only for it not to match up it may be a turn off. Regards Steve

  13. What was the little hole for on the nose of the APT-E? On most pictures its just a hole but on this picture it seems to have a pipe sticking out of it. http://www.old-dalby.com/images/ATP-E_St-Pancras%2028-10-75-BR.jpg Cheers
  14. Hi I am looking to add DCC to an older Lima Class 73 model but the pictures on the fitting guide seem to have disapeared anyone know of a site that shows the process. Cheers
  15. Ah I see, I found a video of Pauls that shows an 08 dragging it out of York using the coupling bar https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=lz2RcJjbmE0#t=89 Cheers
  16. Regarding the movement of the APT-e using standard locos what would have happened if the train had failed on one of its test runs, bit of a long way to send a Unimog to drag it off the line. Or was failure not an option?
