  1. Haven't heard anything about a delivery. Getting a bit close to Christmas now to guarantee delivery?
  2. I wouldn't be surprised if Hornby have already ordered a load more loco bodies. Not sure how the repaired locos would then be sold as in repaired state (not new). If the bodies were offered as spares some entrepeneur might have a business opportunity. We just don't know the numbers - what are the percentages of deflector cracks?
  3. I was talking to Hornby Customer Technical guys today. It may be that spare loco bodies are available even if replacement locos are unavailable. I would go direct or via your retailer to see if you can get a replacement, assuming the loco runs well. Changing the body looks straight forward.
  4. Tell me about it. Still waiting to hear back from Hornby re return of 'Noisy Noisy'. Tried telephone instead of email this morning - got through after 20 minutes, then transferred to technical but line went dead. Sorry if this seems to be a way of venting my frustration. But can't even return the flamin' thing!! Edit: At last, discussion with very understanding lady at Hornby Customer Care. Item will be refunded and a courier sent to pick it up. PS I have made a better job of the packaging!
  5. Hey 'Edge', that's very close to the 'edge' of the table!
  6. 3rd time lucky. Well packaged from Kernow. Still waiting to get return number from Hornby so that one can be returned. Feels like .
  7. Hi Andy So I guess perhaps I should go back to the original question as the ‘Loriot Y’ Machinery Truck No. DW41990 can be preordered but no details on the livery or period. Or is this still up for grabs?
  8. Thanks John I reckon there would be a high demand, especially as KR models are about to deliver the iron ore wagons. I did follow your thread: That was a lot of work on the body but no views of the under frame tank modifications. You finally showed the superb SLW pair after renumber and weathering. My preferred route, and I have the Dave Alexander / Dave Bradwell kits to build which is the plan. Cheers Dave
  9. The Hornby DCC power connector to the track has a piece of plastic between the rails which can sit high and close to the rails. This can cause the pony wheels to raise a little thus causing the drivers to also lift and lose traction if there is not enough vertical clearance. That piece of plastic can be easily removed as not necessary.
  10. This is exactly what I am wishing SLW will announce. There was some discussion about a pair of Tyne Dock 24's. Perhaps a back up plan. How easy to convert the latest Bachmann class 24 to Tyne Dock?
  11. What period will ‘Loriot Y’ Machinery Truck No. DW41990 be. BR Departmental - pre TOPS?
  12. Back to the deck before the remaining two truss frames are constructed. The conversion to double track was already in place but for walkways either side of the tracks' the deck needed to be widened. This would also give a greater width (+9.5mm) between each pair of truss frames, which is a bonus as it also allows a better proportion between width and height of each set of trusses. A bit of a cut and shove job to enable this. Two cross bearers cut and joined to give a wider version as can be seen below The wider deck with positioning of track albeit longitudinal 'rail bearer' beams will be used finally
  13. No I haven't. Hornby do say it takes some time for them to reply and no doubt they are snowed under with returns. I just want to get it in the post and out of the way before Christmas. Still waiting for a replacment from another source (retailer who will inspect / test). Ans still waiting to hear a general apology from Hornby for all of the disappointment they have caused and what is their corrective action plan. Won't hold my breath.
  14. Thanks for posting the photos. Tender spring clasp - just about see it? On the front bogie it is clear to see by comparison (RHS of picture below) I for one would be grateful if Keith would offer an upgrade package (tender frame and lighting modification), for those that would like to get the 1st run corrected. I know that the front bogie / buffer beam is FOC but the upgrade offered at a reasonable price?
  15. Jesse I completely understand where you are coming from. A couple of points though: You are young, and have many years to hone those skills in the aspects of railway modelling which are many and varied. Some have started in the hobby late on in life and can't possibly do everything in the allotted time available. Some short cuts and time saving RTR's (or other models 'ready to plant'), help in moving the project along albeit the fundamental upgrades to the RTR / RTP are essential. We are mostly 'big kids' at heart so a new model arriving at the door does add a bit of excitement, and by jove we need that just now Dave
  16. Thanks for pointing that out. I guess some experiments are needed to compare the SEF and Hornby and perhaps the limit on tighter curves. Although I have the SEF I am still trying to get a Hornby version that is OK. Third time lucky perhaps?
  17. And they rotate - just like the real thing!! I wonder if SEF would sell the parts for a retrofit
  18. Any chance of a photo. Would be good to see the corrected front bogie and buffer. Has the tender spring clasp been added, and any change to the lighting function. I have one of the 2nd run on order but not heard a thing.
  19. In addition to the above photos, I thought these below might be useful. W1 Hush Hush which is a South Eastern Finecast kit can run around 34.5 inch (850mm) curves without issue
  20. I had the same with the Hornby direct for a while and then eventually it started to give information. Didn't stop hermes just leaving it on the doorstep though (luckily not stolen), but alas still waiting to hear from Hornby so that I can return the broken smoke deflector model for a refund. I have one on the way from Kernow which I am sure will be packed well and I see another post on here where it was successful. Fingers crossed.
  21. There must be models still out there as they can be ordered as below. Strange goings on!
  22. Two of the four truss frames nearly completed. Just to get an idea of the scale of the bridge, part of the deck is placed on top of the two outer trusses With two more truss frames to fit internally to those above, and with the cross bracing plus walkways it will be pretty busy under the deck! Findhorn (single track) underneath
  23. Hornby will have plenty of spare chassis as the broken bodies are returned. I would buy one for a fiver!
  24. Seems as though this aspect of the model has been compromised. We have waited for the RTR W1 Hush Hush for a long time, so what an opportunity but that extra bit of thought given to the more serious modellers has not been forthcoming. We have other suppliers for example, ensuring easy conversion to EM and P4. Why just have an extra set of wheels for display only? If that is what a customer wishes then why pay for a motor and motion? Lots of really fine detail attended to on the locomotive but with just a little more effort working flanged wheels could have been designed for (for large radius curves). I guess this highlights the boundary between the railway modeller and train set enthusiast. Hornby seems to have a foot in both camps; with extra detail such as that mentioned in their program going all out to be accurate re the P2' then then having wheels floating in mid air above the track at the other end of the spectrum. And if that might be considered expensive then market these as optional extras for those that can manage the conversion. I guess a conversion will be done and demonstrated on RMWeb which I would be pleased to see.
