  1. Have you thought of something like this: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/uploads/monthly_05_2014/post-7104-0-10521700-1399740317.jpg This is how my friend Mike has done it on his layout Dunelm, it's on here somewhere, I'm sure he would be more than happy to tell you more Doug Edit, just realised I should have put this in Barnabys thread, apologies to Chris for hijacking
  2. Yep, superb work as usual. Can't wait for Telford to see it in the flesh, great work Chaz
  3. Hi Chris That's really helpful and makes perfect sense, much obliged Apologies for hijacking the thread Doug
  4. Hi Chris I notice on the guild website you mention that the 85A model was fitted with sound, any chance you could let us know which chip you used and how you did it??? Doug
  5. I am really impressed at your skill and lateral thinking, I fancy having a go myself now
  6. It's jobs like that where I find my resistance soldering unit comes into it's own, spot of solder cream, lay it all together and quick dab on the foot pedal...........job done I have to admire your attention to detail, also noticed on the guildex poster that Dock Green is attending Telford, look forward to seeing it there in the flesh Doug
  7. Spoken like a true railway modeller, well said sir!!!
  8. Hi Gareth, I like the look of your track plan, my only advice for you is remember in 0 gauge less is more.......there is massive opportunity for the small details which do get lost and can look contrived if there is too much crowding. I built a small layout called Puddle Lane (still have it in the shed & only got as far as track & ballast) which was simply a passing loop with a short parcels siding. Operationally it was great fun, I'm sure you will enjoy yours Doug
  9. Mmmmmm nice, only problem is I sold one of my kidneys already so raising the "how much????" could be tricky
  10. It all seems perfectly reasonable to me..........anyway it's your train set etc
  11. Try this link http://www.metalsmith.co.uk/loco_buildingtesting_7mm_scale.htm or here http://www.meteormodels.com/www.meteormodels.gbr.cc/info.php?p=10 This is the simplest form of axle alignment (I think Alan Gibson might do them as well??) or if you are going to build a few locos you could try this http://www.avonsideworks.com/products.html but it ain't cheap (& they get dearer!!) I have one of these and swear by it http://www.hobbyholidays.co.uk/products.php?cat=32 But they don't seem to be making them at the minute OR you could buy some 3/16 rod and make your own..........simples!!! (Edit to include extra link cos I forgot about meteor models ones!!!)
  12. We used to use a similar ruse on an exhibition layout, Woodhouse, the difference being we had a branch to the colliery via the fiddle yard with the assumption of a triangular junction up the branch. Worked well for us
  13. Have to agree there, ABC gearboxes are top quality if a little pricey
  14. Indeed, make sure the coaches have plenty of beer in them!!
  15. Looking good Mike, got your txt & yes should be fine for Hartlepool but not sure if I can do all say both days. Will ring you sometime over the weekend
  16. Great pics, will have to get the better half to agree to a holiday somewhere near Torbay!!!!
  17. So the big question is......................have you got the 47 done yet It's starting to look the part now Mike, looking forward to Hartlepool
  18. I thought help from stepson usually involved imbibing in the local ale at the local hostelry, assume that's where the head scratching took place
  19. Looking good Mike, frantic work going on as I type no doubt?? Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh Doug
  20. Yes a truly inspirational bit of micro-modelling in the "senior scale" I was fortunate to have a 15 minute chat Mike late on Saturday afternoon and we swapped tales about noisy layouts..............fun for the paying public but can get on your t##s if you are exhibiting next to it for a full weekend!! Have to say how sublime the layout is in the flesh, even better than the thread. Both this layout and Dock Green were stunning and stood out against some other truly exceptional modelling at the show, well done Mike and thank you Doug
  21. Well what can I say? Went to Warley yesterday (first time for me) and was blown away by the quality of what was where but especially by Dock Green and Reely Grate. They are even better in the flesh than on the forum. Thank you so much we found it truly inspirational stuff Doug
  22. Hi Paul Love the quoits pitch, like you I used to drink with a couple of world champions and also beat one of them on more than one occassion!!! The lowmac is looking good, are you bringing it to our show to give it a run out on Wildale??? Doug
