  1. Oh No, I've just put the cream first in my cream and jam scone. I shall have to surrender my National Trust membership and be barred from Cornwall for life.

  2. New slant on 'delay due to leaves on the line' Abellio Greater Anglia has bus replacement service on Ipswich to Felixstowe and Marks Tey to Sudbury for a week now and ongoing, due to wheel damage from 'Autumn rail conditions'. They say on average, 2 dmus per day are suffering wheel damage.

There has been comments posted elsewhere about a shortage of replacement wheel sets for this autum due to technical problems with one of the main suppliers

Shocking fact is that the privatised industry has no spare units or loco/stock these days, preferring to use cheaper bustitutions when there's even the slightest problem. Cheap and nasty "service" for top whack fares. Very unfair on the passengers.

Good or bad, it makes no difference. She's having all her lady friends round. Nowt to do with you, you just forgot / weren't listening / she didn't bother to tell you anyway. PS there's beans in the cupboard and bread in the breadbin.

  4. Nearly finished a conversion of a Hornby Stanier non corridor third brake to a push/pull third brake. All extra fittings made and fitted, end and adapted part sides painted and will apply new numbers today. Final satin finish and driver window glazing to fix with Kleer next week.

Used photo from member Penlan on 'LMS push pull thread' Post 62, of coach M24425M. This coach was maroon unlined in fresh outshopped condition with additional push pull control cabling, circa 1963

There is another photo of this coach, from longer distance, with a freshly outshopped Stanier composite non corridor with protruding top door vents, without 1st class door markings and Ivatt Class 2 on the Leamington to Weedon route.

  5. RIP Dave 'Swarbs' Swarbrick (died 6th June) arguably the most influential British folk rock violinist since the 60's, ex Fairport Convention and a long solo career. Did so much to reinvigorate British folk music. Joining that great band elsewhere. Maybe he and Sandy Denny will play together again.

To be fair, it was worth waiting a couple of days this time, just to be sure. Ah, my favourite fiddle player. I have a couple of his song books from when he was selling things on eBay a few years ago. They've taken on a greater meaning now, sadly

  6. Having difficulty finding photos of the cab end of Class 122 driving trailers built by Gloucester for the 122 powered cars. Does anyone know if they had the same small destination name box on the roof as the 122 'bubble cars'. It would make sense

  7. Supreme Irony-just received a recorded nuisance call asking me if I was fed up with nuisance calls and offering to sell me a telephone to block nuisance calls-pot/kettle etc-fume!!!

      Fair comment.

Many of those spam-calls don't give out phone numbers.

Of the few that do, a significant number seem to be routed through one number with an area code from that part of the world.

I never take any of these scammers up on their dubious "wares" - but, if a number comes up when you dial 1471, it can be interesting to google it.

If it hasn't already been despatched, get it sent to work or a friend and then wait until you can get it indoors alone.

What it is, they put the most delicate items on the floor of the van, then load progressively larger/heavier items on top. Routing is secondary. Happy Xmas!

Thanks for the advice. Tester sample was fine, two power car roofs now sprayed, it goes on beautifully and does what it says, dulls to a flatter finish. Brilliant. Makes having fitted 58 BR scallop vents worthwhile.

  15. Phew - have just completed the chassis detailing of a Hornby 156 dmu, slicing off the original lumps and cutting out the individual components, making parts and obtaining spare air cylinders - took 4 weeks of evenings. Now Rapido or Realtrack announce your new British dmu is a 156 - make my day, week, year - the magnum is ready, but in all honesty in all the excitement I can't remember if its chocolate or choc & nut covered - do you feel lucky punks

  17. Marked out the positions for BR scalloped vents on a Class 123 driving brake, opened up first packet of vent castings to find they are ridged type. Work on dmu has come to a halt while castings go back for replacement

      123s had vents?

Seriously. One of my favourite units those.

  18. Becoming a wellie seller at Glastonbury as; it always rains; punters don't bring any due to weight; at the end they gat left behind so recycle sort and sell again next year - brilliant

      Horsetan

Don't stock Hunters. Made in China nowadays, so hardly last a year and would scupper your recycling idea.

  19. Happy Days, the last of 3 cross country 63ft dmu models ordered 18 months ago, turned up today from Silver Fox, a Gloucester Class 119, the others are a 120 and 123. I asked for staggered delivery. Happy birthday to me from swmbo-thank you from me.

  20. Just returned from 2 week hols in north Herefordshire, where I discovered the delights of Dunkertons cider. Arguably the best cider producing county-controversial.

  21. Just received two Hornby PCAs from The Weathering Works, sold on e-bay. Lovely workmanship. Now changing the wheels to Gibson 10.5mm to bring the buffer height down.

  22. Reminiscing on the passing of Dave Swarbrick last week, what was happening in West London in the mid 1960s to produce so many folk/folk rock icons- Dave from New Malden; Sandy Denny from Wimbledon and Dave Cousins and Tony Hooper from Twickenham. I lived there from 1970, did I miss it

  23. Comet/Wizzard etched Fowler 4F chassis received in the post. Will replace an old Wills 4F chassis under an Airfix 4F (I hope) with a Mainline Fowler tender, used as an unmotorised double header

  24. There is a railway related series starting this week on channel H2, 531 on Sky, called Combat Trains, Wednesdays at 9pm, dealing with the role of railways during major conflicts. The first episode is titled Nazi Trains and apparently includes material about the transport of people to concentration camps

  25. Started a Class 121 trailer build using Lima 117 power car and centre car, plus Silver Fox 117DMS conversion parts. Thanks to previous posts was able to confirm these did not have corridor connections when built.
