Midland and South Western Junction Railway (M&SWJR)
MarcD replied to KeithMacdonald's topic in Disused Railways
The kit is now also available in 4mm now. I'm just painting the prototype and As I don't have a copy of Vol3 of the wildswan book can anyone tell me what the livery should be? It might end up being painted GWR if I'm not careful! Marc -
I would get hold of Phil tuer (steamale) of this parish. He is the chair of the Cumbria Railways Association. He may be able to point you in the right direction. One of the last locos is preserved at Bo'ness. The C&WJR had some ore wagons and the Furness also operated ore wagons on the line north so they may have been used. Furness ore wagons were seen as far afield as Manchester and Glasgow. Marc

I have had a look in my box and I'm in the same hole no instructions. I did buy it off Ebay very cheap, so what do I expect! I'm hoping to build my one for an up coming show so I will post updates. On a thread. Marc -
I did manage to have word at brake down and I was told their are in production and will be available shortly. Not overly helpfull but for me its no longer an issue as I don't have a layout to run them on. Marc

The whole show had issues with card machine's. At the traders meetingany were scathing over the card payment issue. Amongst other things. From a layout point of view there weren't the number of people pushing other out of the way to see anything. I know of a few people who only stayed for a few hours and left. And there was a report of at least one person who couldn't pay by card walking away from the the show before they had for in. Marc

You were correct you are next to me. Marc

I will be there with W C Boggs and Son in the small layouts section pop round for a chat. Marc
-
Sounds like a plan. hopefully I can steel away from the Layout for 10mins on Saturday. I need new mug so fingers crossed there are some in the stores. Mike you cape story sounds familiar as my dad still swears by them. The trike also looks familiar as my dad also has 3 of them. But the realy scary thing is we have a family photo from the 1980 york rally in a similar pose. Marc

You will have to pop round to the layout (W.C.Boggs) for a chat. I'm not taking the stand this year so I have the chance to talk to people rather than encourage them to part with their cash. Marc

The posty has yet to get it to me as well but it is available on the website. You could always branch out into NPCS for your next build to use up the spares? Marc
-
Mike Nice write up about your hopper wagon in the latest newsletter. Marc

Another Po wagon that could have turned up at Carbean. I'm not sure if its one from the order placed with Charlies Roberts as there is no sign of one of their build plates. But it looks like it could be from the sizes given in the order book.

Spent a few hours atthe NRM with @drduncanby pure fluke. Solved some outstanding issues with po wagons and uncovered some more that will need to be looked at. marc

How many locos do I need for my layout?
MarcD replied to APT Fan's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
Personally say it depends on if you intend to exhibit or not. If your doing Hayling island you only they only used one terrier at once but for ease of operation iwould have a goods train and a passenger train plus at least one spare. If was doing a through country station then I would have a out 8 locos plus spare. Marc -
Just had what I would say is one of the best if not the best GF pasty. Barnecutts bakery in Bodmin. The other half had one of their normal pastys which she also said was very good. She can also recommend their saffron buns. Marc

Either P4 or S7 depending on how much space I can make n the workshop. I have a few plans running in my head at the moment. A Cornish light railway "Camborne-Trebogus" Just so I can have a GWR notice board informing passengers that mainline trains will not be stopping today, and may be some some well known names on the coal office. I 'm also looking at Carbean wharf in S7 but that evolves a lot of scratch building locos. Also Arnside goods on the furness and Ben Nevis Distillery on the west highland line. I also have some NSWGR 7mm stock which needs a home which also need FB rail. I'm just about to recycle "Scratchy Bottom" my 7mm FS layout which will give me 6 base boards to play with. Marc

I have just come across this thread having read about it in the latest Scalefour mag. I have been wanting to do something "light railway" for a while. did you have a filing jig for your points? Marc
-
I would agree with you however others disagree. But this is not a debate of mike's thread. Marc
-
Annual compensation slightly different subject each year. Catagories 1) scratch built 2) commercial kit build Ongoing debate on where 3d printed one off fits.
-
Yes one for scratch built and one for kit built. Hopper Wagons this year. Next year I think it's NPCS. Marc

Mike , I was digging around my photo collection and I found this its clipped from a photo of Lindal moor mines B30 pit cric 1900. it looks like it might be a Wigan Coal and Iron hopper wagon. Have no more info on it. However I do know that there was a ore train that left lindal ore sidings once a day destination Wigan and WC&ICo had fingers in a number of ore mines in the lindal area.
-
Mike, I'm going to there with the stand and I'm hoping to launch some stuff of scratch builders. They might be of interest to you. Marc

The wagon in the photo has a rounded end at the non-door end and only has 4 planks. I have gone through my photos of china clay wagons and it doesn't match anything I have. The only wagon I have seen that matches the Slaters kit is the John Lovering and bath Gas works. So the wagon is a bit of a mystery to me. Marc
