  1. I'm not over sure about the finish. Looks like a child has been at it with a paint brush. Marc
  2. I have seen some of these wagons before. My money is on G&SWR as they have two end doors. Marc
  3. The 4 compartment coach looks like an Ashbury design that was bought buy the Furness and Cambrian, amongst others, circ 1885. One thing to note the coaches are not fitting with continuous brakes. Marc
  4. When they announced the coaches I had a 30ft long LBSCR layout. Now I have a industrial/goods only micro so coaches are a bit surplus to requirement. Marc
  5. It looks like a wagon I'm drawing out to make into a Carlisle Southend Coop.if I get it finished tomorrow I will post the CAD. Marc
  6. Just had time to look a this photo in detail. I think I can id running left to right. MR D352 (1904-09) (light grey paint and number under the M indicate late build MR D301 (in MR livery 1901- no published photo in MR livery) MR D299 MR D352 (1904+) FR 3plk hard to tell but brake gear does not match type used by MR. LNWR D1 LNWR brake 2x New Ingleton Col 7plks MR D362 What is also interesting is the lack of LNWR stock on a LNWR dock. Marc
  7. They could be loaded with lime stone dust. Limestone dust was used in collieries as a fire suppression system. Coal dust is highly explosive bit this risk can be mitigated by spreading limestone dust on the floors or drives and cross cuts. Marc
  8. All my S7 wheels have normal parallel top hat bearings. It must be an optical elusion. Marc
  9. The GER'S wagon wheel policy, as far as photos goes, is anything goes. If if fits fit it. I have photos of 5 planks fitted with plain spoke, open spoke, solid disc or even old coach wheels. I have even seen one wagon with disc on one end and open spokes on the other. Marc
  10. Hi James I have photos of 3ft1 closed spoke wheels. Not sure how many spokes. Marc
  11. Even if they ran through to Southampton some goods would have been dropped off at Andover. In the same way traffic was on the S&DJR did at templecoombe. Marc
  12. Just been going through vol2 and I have noticed that the MSWJR and NSWGR had a similar loco stud Marc
  13. It would make an interesting model. Picking up and dropping off vans. And a relatively small size. Marc
  14. My copy of Vol3 should be with me by the middle of next week. I have already got Vols 1-2. Having produced a brake van early this year I'm looking at doing a loco and some more wagons next year. Marc
  15. If my memory is correct before the opening of Heysham the Midland used Barrow as its main port for Ireland and the isle of man. So what did they use for coal. There is the odd MR 6plk shown in photos of barrow docks but nothing in the way of coaling facilities. Marc
  16. So I'm not going mad as I couldn't find any evidence of the 3 box version, apart from the GA. I was interested to find out about about 3 to 4% of wagons surveyed in Liverpool by the LYR in 1920 were of the 3 box type. That is both company owned (LYR/LNWR) and private owner. And most ran between various Lancashire collieries and the port. It suprising they don't show up on more photos. And if most box coal wagons were loaded in Lancashire where did the Midland source their coal from? Marc
  17. Is there any real evidence that the Midland ever built any 3 box coal wagons? I have the works drawings for them and there is a note in the "Ince wagon" book that the Midland operated them. However essery doesn't mention this and I'm yet to find a photo. Marc
  18. Just to remind people. One Week to go to the First S7 North Meeting in Dalston near Carlisle. There will be the S7 test track so bring some stock to run. And there are a number of demonstrators covering everything from scratch building stock to 3D printing, including myself with a couple of different typed of auto coupling, not just my own. There will be some trade support form CSP Models. The cost is £5 this covers you for unlimited (While they last) tea/coffee, biscuits and cake. It is open to members and Will be equally welcome non-members. Doors open at 10:30AM at the Victory Hall Dalston, Carlisle CA5 7QS This is an experiment ,so please come an support. If it goes well we might try something a bit bigger next year. Marc
  19. Well things are progressing. The foam went down first thing on Saturday morning And by the close of play on Sunday all the track is now down and wired. Next job is turnout actuators. The plan is to fit my favoured "Blue" Mechanical actuators if they fit if not I might give the ones in the Scalefour stores a go. They came recommended and trying some thing new is good for you. Once installed I'm going to have to borrow a 00 loco to test every thing as the chassis for Tal-y-Llyn hasn't arrived yet. On the stock front. I have built 1 each of the following 2 bar slate, 3 bar slate, 3plk, 4plk, GPV, Incline, iron body with top strapping and iron body without top strapping. I have another 2 three bar slates, 2 2 bar slates and a tapered side iron body part built along with the body of Tal-y-Llyn. The layout could contain 24 wagons in the 4 sidings so operating with 18 wagons gives me a 6-6-6-6 inglenook and 18! or 6,402,373,705,728,000 combinations if I just use it as a shunting plank which should keep us occupied. We have also go our first bookings for the finished layout So we have exactly 1 year to have everything ready. Having been invited to two shows this time next year my mind is now looking at the longer term issue of motive power. I have a part built Tal-y-Llyn which will go on to a Branchlines chassis, when it arrives. Wrightlines use to do a Dolgogh but that is no longer in production So I'm after the location of a decent GA that I could use to build one from scratch. can anyone point me in the direction of a set? have the one in Boyd, a sketch in Johnson and Weaver and some 16mm drawings in Rockett. Marc
  20. Sad news. He changed my outlook to model railways. I was going through some of his books only last night to get inspiration for my latest project "Tywyn King's". I will be working on the layout today at the Furness Show and will be thinking of him. Marc
  21. Progress today the foam is in place and all the the track is down. It needs to be wired up next. A job for the morning. Marc
  22. The 4 plank is very interesting finished in light grey points to it being a new build. It has all the hallmarks of a Gloucester carriage and wagon. Marc
  23. The MR tariff van, MR banana and the SDJR box have the same chassis, and sides and different ends. The SDJR van ends are plain, the banana has vents and the tariff has windows. Marc
