  1. The wagon turntable was kept in use until the end of rail operations. The point at the end of the loop was removed at some point in the 1930/40's from what I can ascertain. Marc
  2. I'm looking at modelling the Ben Nevis Distillery just outside Fort William. Their internal railway had a main line but there doesn't seem to be a loco shed or stables so I'm presuming that the system was shunted by a main line loco. So my question is what locos would have been in Fort William that could have been used? Marc
  3. The Furness 0-4-0's were used to shunt barrow docks in later years but never ventured much further afield. Carnforth might have had one of the 0-4-0ST's for yard shunting but I haven't seen one there in any photos. Post 1910 the Furness deployed it's new 0-6-0T locos as yard shunters in carnforth. Marc
  4. No offense taken, it's just there are a number of people who model in 7mm were not happy that I developed the Flippem coupling. And that I dared to market them. Their comments have made me a bit defensive. Marc
  5. Flippems are a separate entity to Dinghams. To say that Flippem coupling are a modified Dingham is like saying that a Austin mini and a BMW mini are the same car. Both are cars with wheels. The Flippem coupling works on the same engineering principles as the Dingham coupling. But there the similarities ends There are some major design differences between them. These are:- - they are about 80% stronger than the original coupling. - they can be used on curves Flippem system allows you to couple up on curves down to 3ft in 7mm and 2ft in 4mm. - Flippem coupling also allows you to adjust the height of the coupling so they are all at a common hieght. There are 5 different height hooks in two lengths. They are interchangeable, IE a wagon fitted with a Dingham will couple up to one fitted with a Flippem as long as both vehicles are at exactly the same height and the curve is greater that 6ft in 7mm or 4ft6 in 4mm.   10. I have just made the S&DJR 8ton road van, MR Tariff vans and the MR unfitted Banana van available in multiple scales. I'm hoping to get the S&DJR and MR large cattle vans done next week. Marc

While doing sone research into a possable micro layout I cam across a very fuzzy image of a Private owner wagon at Bude Wharf From what I can just make out the wagon belongs to ** Brothers who look like they are based at what apperars to be Marsh Mills which is near Plymouth. I can't find any referance to a business based at marsh mills apart from Martyn Bros who were big players in the china clay industry. What are other peoples thoughts? Marc
  12. A few years ago I bought a second hand Springside LYR pug (part built). It was cheap for a reason it was put together with so much epoxy you can't fit the chassis. So has anyone got a useful tip to dissolve the stuff? Marc
  13. I had a dig around my photo collecton and found these. both 7ton "bogies" one with side doors one without. Marc Marc
  14. They are a bit of a movable feast. Lost of designs all slightly different but all doing the same job. The NBR, G&SWR and the Cally all had them and as they were built in the days of drawings area a guide I would work to a photo with the drawing to aid. Marc
  15. Simple answer is each door had a monkey tail catch which once released allowed the door to swing open under its own weight and that of the coal/mineral inside. Once empty the door was grabbed using a hook on a stick and the latch closed. The lever on the ends is a brake lever and is a throwback from the Stockton and Darlington and only found on NER central division mineral wagon. Marc
  16. One thing that I think has been missed it the use of PO Clay wagons. from about 1908 North Cornwall China Clay Co. Had their own 3plk open wagons after 1919 NCCC became part of ECC and the wagons would have been repainted with ECC at some point. Marc
  17. Just added the MR medium cattle van (PGR47) and GNoSR Box van (PGR75) to the website. Marc
  18. MR medium (16ft6) cattle van should be ready next week in 4mm. I finished the CAD model yesterday. I should also say it's available in HO,4mm, S, 7mm and G1(1/32). Marc

  20. The name came from a card factory kit in the Alfagrafix range. Then someone pointed out that it was the company in Carry on at Your Convenience. The layout it 6ft by 18inch in total, including the fiddle yard. The track is peco set track, never again but that is a different story. So far it has got to my local shows an GuildEx this year. I have nothing in the diary for next year so if anyone wants it for their show it can be available. Everything fits in the back of my car and there is only one operator. Ma
