  1. Interesting article on the Denby branch https://www.pressreader.com/uk/derby-telegraph/20190429/282819307627846 plus Fickr photo
  2. Llandudno Junction would always have one or two around the yard for runs to Amwlch for chemical traffic or up the branch with the explosive traffic or the flask site, there's a layout blog on here somewhere of the of the branch with quite a few photos of the real branch traffic. Worth mentioning the Baccy airpiped van has the wrong axlebox design, Hornby have done several version, but only later runs have the correct roller bearing axleboxes. See Pual Bartllet's site for lots of livery variations
  3. More images on Flickr here, just click the image to go to the full set.
  4. Just posted a couple images on the Dewsbury Midland thread but I'll post here about the changes I made. I have never been impressed by the headcode diplay on the class 31, it lacks depth so I binned it. I cut some transparent plastic(Baccy packaging) and by trial and error trimmed it to fit into the reccess, behind this is the actually headcode made up of digits from a Precision Labels set, these are glued to a rectangle of plasticard cut to fit inside the whole. Glued to the inside reccess is another piece of plasticard trimmed to fit in the roof after the black shroud has been removed. The clear "glass" is a push fit so I could change the headcode if I want, 1M75 was I believe used for a Bradford St Pancras service. All lighting is removed, personal preference as I'm not a fan of over bright frontal lighting and Dewsbury Midland is analogue. The Mirrlees exhuast was trimmed off and replaced by a plasticard rectangle and an etch from A1 models(via Ebay). D5813 was chosen as the renumber because it was Tinsley based from 1968 to '72 and had the double arrow SYE green livery, one of only a handful to do so. Interestingly it suffered cosmetic accident damage to one side but returned to service still in fresh green but with a FYE.
  5. D5813 of Tinsley wanders through Dewsbury Midland light engine, one of a just a handful which recieved the double arrow whilst still wearing SYE green, the loco was to leave West Yorkishire for Bristol in early '72. It's a Hornby(from the high end range)loco but with the exhaust modified and improved headcode glazing to try to add some depth.
  6. One image from the Derek Cross collection published in "The Heyday of the Scottish Diesels" comes to mind, D8124 in September 1968 at Heads of Ayr. Formation is a 3 coach with the brake trailing, all 2nd class in maroon(maybe lined) with D8124 in SYE green.
  7. For those wanting inspiration, from the KDH archive from the same source, a 5 car set
  8. Today we find D16 Nottingham Divsion 7616 drifting down past the back alleys of Dewsbury Miland towards the station, the LM was quite slow to adopt two letter shed codes. In reality D16 consisted of just 4 sheds, Colwick, Derby, Burton and Toton and only Toton had any real loco's allocated. Colwick was to close before the TOPS era and Derby and Burton were only home to class 08's .
  9. A Thursday bonus, Flangeway's new corrected Salmon wagons with Shapeways Stumec cranes and a rail load, a third wagon is plain and will get 3 or 4 track panels. I will use P4 flexi to fill the full width.
  10. That makes my first statement even worse, picked up a copy of that B&B book only a few weeks ago!
  11. If the work done at Derby is similar to class 20's, the recess was never removed just plated on the outside.
  12. Here are two of my three Salmons, sadly I've no recollection of of where the gantry cranes came from, other someone on Shapeways. A rail load will be added, Ive got some chain and turnbuckles(Roxey Moulding etches I think). The third will get a track panel load, the now corrected new wagons means I'll go with P4 to fill the full width. I think the cranes are called Stumecs and there appears to be two variations, an older manual worked version and these slightly chunkier variantants. The Genisis kit was the smaller older version I seem to recall.
  13. Oh well proves me wrong, my feeble excuse is I only have one class 26! What book is that from? There is a noticable difference in the recess compared to this and sods law what has been in plain sight for months on my Flickr favs
  14. I have several steam weathering/renumber projects to come, 9Fx2, Fairburn tank and a must for the area a WD 2-8-0. So hopefully I can keep you happy!
  15. Well it's been a while but the tablet recess project is now done, here are the pictures. Size of the recess was an estimation based a good image on Derby Sulzers of 7612 in Derby works.
  16. I've several Heljan class 27's all pre TOPS in various liveries, so I've done plenty of searching for picitures and have many books for the period and region. I have never found a single picture of a class 27 with the catcher in place, I'm pretty sure the class 26's were the same.
  17. A return to steam tonight with Normanton based 44099 on a short coal train.
  18. Surprise parcel this morning ,Id actually forgotten all about these. All I have to do now is try and remember where I've put/hidden the Shapeways mini crane thingies!
  19. Where the plough brackets a later addition, I found one book listing which locos had them(TOPS era numbers)but have not found a single picture of any loco from the pre TOPS era wearing green livery, pictures would be useful.
  20. I took these at the same time as D165, unfortunatley the loco just wouldn't photograph very well. My weathering made the loco look very washed out in the pictures, I'm no photoshop expert, but I've played around with the exposure and contrast(and size) on the Chromebook. Now you can judge for yourselfs.
  21. The crane and support vehicles first appeared in the Bachmann section when the model was released, but to recap the support vehicles are example of real ones, but not seen in the same train. Mess coach is based on a Gresley one used by Colchester area S&T, the packing van is one of several ex blue spot fish vans, mine is numbered after one used by Immingham as was the Thompson BG in almost original condition. Full set of images here, click image below for Flickr album, just realised I have no pictures of the fishvan(Parkside kit)
  22. Back to 1969 and we find D165 with a mixed rake of maroon and Blue/grey coaches passing through Dewsbury Midland. The loco was a late survivor in this livery, lasting until October 1972 before going into Derby works.
  23. I always assumed 047 was quite late getting blue, I particularly remember it being one of the OPC postcard loco's.That postcard image looks wrong because the green covers the buffer beam. A fact about 075 was it gained full yellow ends whilst still an ScR loco, where as most other ScR class 20's went straight from SYE to blue. Crewe was turning out dual braked conversions on Totons class 20 fleet complete with freshly painted red buffer beams and FYE's.
  24. In the book (Jacks Return Home, Ted Lewis) the author clearly knew nothing about railways, Jack catches a train from Euston and alights at Doncaster! He also survives the ending, the author lived in Stretford for many years but sadly died of drink related complications at the age of 42.
