  1. And me, now for a few months learning a CAD software package in preparation..........
  2. Emblaser 2 preordering now open on Darkly Labs website if anyone has been so inspired by this thread as to want to buy their own machine.
  3. The results in this thread are amazing - I ended up with a Silhouette having watched that skill develop online, I bet I'll end up with one of these as well! Wondering out loud (so to speak), is the speed of the cut a factor in the likelihood to burn? Logic seems to suggest that the quicker a successful cut can be made, the less risk there is of collateral damage? Dave
  4. Well, this afternoon I have discovered that the track layout is "hard coded" into the Controller program that runs on the Processing IDE and have downloaded an excellent commented example from GitHub to learn from. Couple of long days in real work ahead, but should have cracked it by the weekend hopefully. Good fun - electronics and trains!
  5. I gave dcc++ a try last evening, successfully running up and down on the dining room table. This was using a UNO and a genuine Arduino motor shield that I already had. Brilliant - and took about five minutes to get up and running. Only issue I have is with the Controller software running on the PC, can't work out yet how to configure the layout diagram and define routes...not bad for day one though :-) I know I can use JMRI, but fancied something different - will keep trying later today when finished work......
  6. Great Henry Street on a very dark night. You have to do something with the Lima 4F, though fitted with DCC chip, stay alive and additional tender pickups, she runs okay.
  7. Having read through this topic from start to finish, I bought a Silhouette Portrait, having been inspired by the creativity displayed here :-) With apologies to JCL, the first real thing I had a go at was a level crossing gate... This is the result - I'm pleased with it for day one! The layers are simply on top of each other, not yet glued or anything. One question though. How are you guys finishing the card models ready for painting? Do you use shellac or is there a more modern equivalent? Waiting for styrene to arrive now - hurry up postie.
  8. Has fitted a sound chip in a 7mm loco for the first time! Now for the capacitor!

  11. I saw him head butt a goalkeeper (Bury?) at Prenton Park about 100 years ago.............what a sad day yesterday for us Birkenhead boys.
  12. I already had several Nimh rechargeables before I discovered Lipos and the need to balance multi-cell batteries, so I bought one of these, with which I can do all sorts (short of boiling an egg or two ) http://www.emodels.co.uk/etronix-powerpal-80w-ac-dc-pro-charger-discharger-et0200-8.html For the Western I use a very small, (but beautifully formed) Hubsan 1s 240 mah lipo. http://www.emodels.co.uk/hubsan-x4-mini-quadcopter-lipo-battery-h107-a05.html Happy with both solutions............
  13. Over the last few weeks I have installed a Deltang receiver, battery, switch and charging circuit in an old Lima Western. I decided to replace the Lima 12v pancake motor with a 5v susomotor and power the loco with just a 1s Lipo at 3.7v. Works beautifully and, after finding the shoehorn, all fits in nicely! Next project is to fit out a Lima HST power car. This one will be powered with a 7.4v 2s Lipo and the voltage uprated through a Pololu voltage regulator to 12v. Might possibly use the Tgs as a host for the electronics in this one as they run as a fixed set.....we'll see when I open the power car up?
