  1. Thanks Ray, KS 3068 in Google leads to this http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/76110-moving-coal-a-colliery-layout-in-0-gauge/page-5. Seems to be black till 64 then red, the model shows a simple to achieve livery, useful info. This rattled my brain and I remembered my copy of ' industrial steam album' Fox and King IA 1970 and on p 102. Are two photos of ' Francis ' one on shed and one side on ( ha!) when fitted with a Giesl ejector carrying a crest on the side of the cab and presumably in red. Now what's that crest ? The photo of an austerity on the following page also shows a similar crest ! More digging I think.
  2. Can I ask if anyone has any further info/ photos of the locos which ended up in industry, more specifically those which I believe ended up with the NCB ? What I'm really after if a full colour side shot of a late NCB livery, well might as well be hung for a sheep eh:-) seriously any info on what they looked like in their career and how they ended up looking would be extremely useful. I'm still going through ideas for how my green loco might gain a more individual livery. Here's hoping !
  3. Not after one as it won't fit into my ideas ( a single car and a centre car for me please ) but I had a close look at Warley and I thought it most impressive indeed, easily the best 0 gauge Dmu car from any source yet. It promises well for the others coming ! PS the 05 was a thing of beauty as well, oh my poor pocket !
  4. What a lovely photo, curiously by narrowing down the picture to just the loco and the shed it gets very close to a late 60s micro I'm building now of which the 82er will play a big part. Does anyone have any info on the history of the one road shed ? E.g. Original purpose, purpose when the photo was taken, yard shunter loco shed ? Does the shed still exist ?
  5. Back from Warley to find mine had arrived at lunchtime :-) had to wait till 10pm for me to open the parcel and find out it was the "victory". My micro is now starting to sink under the weight of this bruiser of a loco, the Dapol 08 and a half dozen Lionheart 16Ts !! Right out of the box and she crawls along with a couple of 16Ts, needs some weathering and a name I think. Does anyone know offhand the livery details of the Port of London PLA loco fleet ?
  6. Remember seeing that train going past Canton northbound around 9pm ish about 74-76, we used to call it " the BP chem " , well zero for originality I guess ! Used to be pulled by ( usually ) a Crewe duff, used to have a blue plastic cover ??? Sorry the memory has faded badly.
  7. Mafanwy is supposed to have a new full height cab over the winter so get your low height cab photos now. Well worth the effort as she is a great sounding loco as well.
  8. Just spent Sunday with D2595 at Preston Docks and she's a sweetie, looks like my projected preserved line in 7mm is going to need a blue one, oh my poor aching wallet !
  9. Sadly that was a fail, likewise the class15 model from little loco, and that was with 5 hours there on the Sunday. Really need to go both days as I was rushing around by the end :-(
  10. As someone also interested in this idiosyncratic loco can I ask for more info on your 0 gauge sweet looking model ? A few more photos would be nice ! By the way the photo you label as not being sure of is also of the Corringham loco, it is in the soft back on the history of the Corringham of a few years ago. I bought the diagram for sale on ebay by the way. I was and still am thinking of a 3ft version of this loco in 15mm for a roadside tramway that maybe, one day, might get built ! John.
  11. Memories of 120s are of being used turn and turn about with 119s on the Cardiff-Bristols, on the Crewe- Cardiffs, Cardiff - Cheltenham's, everything west of Swansea that wasn't loco hauled ( a good memory of getting on one to go to Tenby from the junction ). Used on the Newport - Cardiff - Swansea locals, ( the 2 car sets would be fairly common on these, lots of memories of a 2 or a 2x 2 coming past Canton around 5-6 pm. Saw one once standing in for for a 116 on a valley train, not a good idea ! Took ages to unload :-) I liked them, not fast but comfortable, never saw a working buffet though.
  12. As someone who used to work in the Courier industry I'm a little curious. Was it not to be signed for ? I'd have thought so given its value, also was it not clearly marked as fragile ? The companies I used to work for had a firm policy of a signature being required or a signed letter asking it to be left in the shed. The only way something could be left without these was if the sender had allowed items to be 'left safe' but left safe to us meant under cover in a shed or porch and out of sight of the road, not lobbed over a fence. Any item going missing outside those limits meant the Depot paid the cost of replacement and the driver might find himself up the road. Some companies are obviously better than others, some are crap and I would not trust them with something worth £500.
  13. How about a model of the preserved D2578 ? That would have a lot of uses I'd have thought. Holding my hand up it's the one I would buy !
  14. Another thought is someone getting quick off the mark and offering a Headcode add on for the later sets, some of which ran as 2 car power twins in the West Country, could find some buyers.
  15. Has anyone thought that soon everything needed for a West Wales and Central Wales based model 1960s- 1980 will be available ? 03, 08, 35, 37, 47, 52, D600, 120 2 car, 120 3 car. Look forward to seeing models of the Central Wales using 120 2 car, 03, 37 shortly !
  16. Love the battery loco ( how often do we see one of these modelled ?) but sadly events conspire against a trip to see it working:-( Hope to see it at the next ( last ? Hopefully not ) show. Have a good day.
  17. Hi David, Thanks for the info on how you did it and the very clear photo of how it all fits together. I was looking on the IKEA site and found this http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S59047699/ I like the idea of a couple of drawers underneath a baseboard, two of these side by side and not reliant on the dodgy floors that we seem to frequently have might work for some folks ? I'll go to my local shop and have a look, I could just have plain shelves, further investigation is needed. Anyway I've taken up far to much space on my ramblings. ps I presume you've seen the pictures of the new Heljan 7mm D25xx ? It would fit in so well in front of that tunnel mouth ! John.
  18. Hi David, Only found this gem last night and have eagerly speed read through it on the iPad at 7am. I'm looking to do something similar in 7ft x 1ft so I'm always looking for cleaver ideas ! I've already thought ' why not put it on the wall, it's only 1ft across? ' as I've got a bit hung up with trestles too low and too wide. Can I ask if the baseboard is fixed to the wall in any way or just mounted on top of your workbench ? I've just been looking at some IKEA shelves and there are possibilities I think. It's looking very good so far, love the stone setts. :-) John.
  19. Right, the Pretendalino is going to TPE, contract signed. In fact they are getting 10 vehicles to be made into 2x5 for training purposes with the 68s. Might get used later "if required"
  20. Don't forget that TOE wants to extend services to Edinburgh therefore not such a problem. In other developments it's been reported that CAF will build the driving trailers last and that the initial services will be in top and tail mode.
  21. No ones mentioned paint schemes for the 68s yet, or will they keep their DRS names :-) How many types of coaches do we reckon ? 5 car set of say driving trailer firsts at each end ( increases flexibility ) with 3 in the middle all seconds ? Any scope for others to piggyback an order for such as Cardiff-Portsmouth/ Scottish internal services ( might be a better idea than HSTs ?) It's rumoured that the Pretendileno is off to TPE very soon to work Liverpool - Scotland ? And yes, 68 haulage. All very interesting eh ?
  22. Has this been noted yet? http://www.tpexpress.co.uk/news/2016/05/more-new-trains-for-the-north-and-scotland/ Scroll down to halfway, let the froth begin !
  23. A 48DS would be nice but I do already have a Impetus one from many years ago. However that is in pieces for a repaint and new wheels, a situation it's been in for years :-(. So a new one would give me a running one quickly and then what to do with the old one ? I could always turn it into a static model of a stored/OOU loco, not something you see modelled everyday but a sight often seen on industrial premises. I could well do that.
  24. Hmm, a 24/25, look how many variations there were...... I do not want a 25/0 in old numbers to remind me of holidays in Saltburn as a lad, I do not want a 25/0 in..........ok you get the message repeat 500 times. A small 0-4-0 Ruston, now that would be a great pal for the Fowler on my micro...and my next layout in around 2025 of a preserved line like Chasewater. Oh the pain, the pain. Want, now !
