  1. Just to add another complication... Didn't the Pullman coaches also have two different types of construction for the sides? I'm sure I read "matchboard sides" once which is potentially wooden and ribbed (for first class pleasure...🤣)? And the other style which is presumably metal/steel sides and smooth?
  2. I'm no expert but I think the white roofed ones were the Orient Express ones. The certainly were many years ago (the older models from the 80s) and came as a threesome in a train set with 47568. Cygnus, Perseus and Phoenix were the coach names. Though I imagine your interest will be in the later retooled coaches with table lighting but alas I can't help you there. A quick skeg on eBay shows a few different ones though so that would be a start for you.
  3. Could be an idea, because I'd suggest that people buying budget sound chips won't be chasing 100 percent accuracy. Although I'm not sure Hornby would entertain the notion.
  4. I wonder if they might consider doing a generic first generation DMU sound chip in TXS form. Could be fitted to the 101, 110, 121 and even the 117 in the unlikely event it's revived. It wouldn't be completely accurate of course but it's not supposed to be and for someone who would like a general representation...
  5. The blues won't match either, although that was nothing new with BR... 🤣
  6. I suspected that might be the case. Haven't they don't similar with the ex Lima stuff? I'd have to dig out a recent tractor or duff to check. Thank you for reporting back. 😃 As an aside I'm quite happy with bigger wheels/flanges. I'd sooner have something that will run nicely than something so finely scaled that it looks wonderful but won't stay on the track for long periods. With this older stuff I can safely leave it running while I use the loo or get a drink etc and not return to find it derailed and just as an Intercity 125 ploughs into the side of it... 🤣 And the wheel edges are easy enough to paint if you do want to tone them down a bit. At the end of the day, all model railways and toy trains are a compromise anyway...
  7. I've always considered it a nice model and remember thinking how well they'd captured the shape when it first came out. I too have the others and interestingly the white one has always been my favourite! I've no desire for another green one but I would like the Metro branded 2 car, just not at £135! I've always assumed these have reappeared from Hornby thanks to Heljan's upcoming 104...
  8. Interestingly though Kernow is only showing 9 of them in stock. Smaller batch quantities for Railroad stuff, or selling better than we think...?
  9. They were pretty much my exact words to my Father two days ago. 🤣
  10. I'm a bit disappointed with this "new" 110 release because I've been looking forward to the blue and grey one. I'm a big fan of these older "models" and Railroad releases as previously mentioned but I would've hoped this one would have been nearer the £110 mark. The decoration looks lovely (and in fact every recent Railroad / ex Lima release I've seen and bought have had the colours absolutely spot on, better than the main range!) but for that kind of money a simple set of working head and tail lamps could've been supplied. I appreciate this would mean altering the tooling slightly but even so... I don't run DCC so all the fancy stuff is lost on me but crikey, even some grain of wheat bulbs like the old 125s had would have been a start!
  11. And of course this is far more obvious on the later/more modern liveries as often most of the cab is painted yellow with very little black to break it up. Can't seem to get rid of these smilies below?! 🤭😝pan widget
  12. I'm not a 'rivet counter', or perfectionist, or even close to being an expert like a lot of RMWeb members (I simply like trains), so personally I just like things to be a reasonable representation of the prototype and as long as there are no blindingly obvious and glaring errors that even the likes of me and Stevie Wonder could spot then it's good enough for me. So, in essence, does this look like a Class 50 to me? Yes. Is it reasonably priced? Yes. Therefore; job done. Well done Hornby (as long as it runs okay.. 🤣)
  13. Very pleasantly surprised to see that Hornby have chosen an Eastern Region 125 this time in regards to the blue & grey one, from memory they've only done that once in OO in all these years! 😎
  14. That looks absolutely wonderful! 😃
  15. If you squint a bit and appreciate that colours might be a bit 'off' on an older photo*... * I prefer them being a bit 'off', gives them more atmosphere.
  16. I think that unit had a light grey roof and maroon/dark red bodyside ends. On a quick glance it looks like a pair of InterCity Mk1s but I think I can see an exhaust pipe tip (?) so that probably rules those out. Plus the red 'guttering'(?) doesn't ring true there either. Could it be another first generation DMU in one of the Strathclyde liveries? Did they get that far? I'd be interested to know, out of curiosity.
  17. If there was an odd one, or a one off from the norm, trust Hornby to find it and make it.🤣 And before anyone says anything, I'm a massive Hornby fanboy and supporter. In fact they're my favourite brand but I'm not blind to some of their absolute howlers in recent years. 🫢😆
  18. What's the difference between early and late BR Blue?
  19. Yes, as I said above there was more than one variant.
  20. I was always surprised they never did a 155 when they did their 153. I'm not a businessman or an expert on the intricacies of model railway production but to a average person it seemed like a no brainer to me. Granted there have only been a handful of liveries over the years on the 155s but I'm sure they'd have still sold. Even dripping a different livery out every couple of years would've probably lasted them 10 years or so while they peddled out many other 153 variants alongside. And yes I know the Hornby 153 isn't perfect by any means, but my feeling still stands. And as adb968008 mentioned above, the INTERCITY Charter Rake also seems like a massive missed opportunity (for now). Again I'm no expert on things but I *think* the train consisted of Mk1 FOs, Mk1 Restaurants and Mk1 Brakes, plus occasionally some Mk3 Sleepers and I believe I've seen air conditioned Mk2s in some photographs. Presumably it was dependant on where the train was going and for how long etc. Hornby surely have the tooling for all these coaches (or in the very least a close approximation; they'd still sell and let's be honest Hornby have often marketed things that aren't truly accurate) and I can't understand why they haven't made them yet. They must understand that INTERCITY livery sells well by now. I bought the Shildon Mk1 and the colours to my eyes are spot on, so I've been disappointed (so far) that we haven't seen more... Just my thoughts.
  21. Regional Railways Central (the original). Regional Railways North West. Northern Spirit. 😃
  22. Sorry I should've been more specific. The first batch DIDN'T have them (I had the Regional Railways one) but the next lot did (I have the Express and WYPTE ones) so I would expect them all to have them from now on. I'd like to think they might be available as spares but then again Bachmann never did that with the 150 ploughs did they so who knows... 😂
