  1. Sorry to cross the various posts, but now I am totally confused and sorry to add further to it! Curiouser and curiouser as someone said in Alice in Wonderland. I did measure three of the inserts from each pack, but happy to leave it to you guys to plough on! all the best Godfrey
  2. MJI wrote " Odd one person finds it well out and someone else correct, could it be different moulds?" I am making the assumption that the Lazerglaze inserts were designed to fit the windows on the Airfix coaches. So just to add to the confusion - the Lazerglaze inserts for the 2d TSO are different to those which are designed for the 2d FO. According to my vernier gauge ( Its a Rabone Superpolyamid one) the inserts for the TSO are 20.2 mm x 8.9 mm whilst the FO ones come out at 19.9mm x 8.5mm. Now even allowing some inaccuracy in my vernier, it suggests to me that Airfix made the windows on the TSO moulds a different size to those on the FO ones. That leaves me with a question, someone on here will know the answer (Brian Kirby!) - were the windows all the same size? all the best Godfrey
  3. Taking the data from Bob-65b's post (no 373), that should equate to 20.29mm x 8.68mm as the inside measurement. I am afraid i don't have any of the frames to hand but measuring the Lazerglaze inserts - presumably made to fit the original Airfix Mk 2d FO windows I get 19.9mm x 8.5mm. Godfrey
  4. Three photos that I took when Calbourne was across on the Mid-Hants. Not sure if they settle the discussion, the band around the cab edge looks like polished steel to me whilst the metal around the pump and on the splasher looks more like brass or perhaps brassed steel. I think a visit to the IoW is called for! Godfrey
  5. Gwiwer said 'Voyagers have problems with sea-water ingress in storms which I believe relates to air intakes on the roof." Its not just seawater. A few years ago in Virgin days I took a Voyager from Reading to Manchester on a very wet day. I hung my jacket on the hook beside my seat - big mistake. When we arrived it was soaked through. The train staff told me it happened all the time and directed me to the Virgin desk to collect a voucher for dry cleaning. I picked up the voucher but couldn't find any cleaners back in Eastleigh who would accept it! Godfrey
  6. And now on Kernow's Facebook page a photo of the Radial taken in the shed at the Bluebell in 2013. I think the Germans would call this 'ein Wink mit den Zaunpfahl' - a wink with a gatepost! Godfrey
  7. Hope this is of help in the discussion; very sure that I will be delighted when the parcel containing mine arrive. Looking forward to building Ventnor West - as a child I lived above the old station yard. Godfrey
  8. Looking at this example which is preserved on the Isle of Wight, there seems to be at least two different types of buffers fitted to these brake wagons - in preservation at least. Mike, I'm sure one would have been taken by the well tanks to every part of these islands!! Godfrey PS Sorry can't seem to get the link to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway to work properly, but there is a picture of one in SR livery in the wagons and departmental section.
  9. That ticks the box for me! http://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/bluebell/wagon/5706.html Godfrey
  10. Here is the other destination blind combination on 612 - black letters on a white background. Photos taken at Exeter St Davids last Wednesday whilst making a very cheap day return journey from Axminster to Plymouth. I presume Charlie that opening window hoppers are extra? Godfrey ( purveyor of fine marmalade)
  11. Really looking forward to these, especially after the fantastic 144s! I seem to remember that 619 is one of Charlie's releases - funny how the colours of the destination sheets vary from one unit to another. Weathering will be a real challenge. Godfrey
  12. Great news indeed. I don't really need one but I sure am going to support the project. Good Luck and many thanks Dave! Godfrey
  13. It is quite subtle but it is certainly there on the photo I took of 73201 this week. I suspect it depends upon the particular viewing angle. They will have to take care to get the curve on the roof etching fixed correctly on the body.. Godfrey
  14. I think that's called 'design clever' - Bachmann have been doing it for ages but were clever enough not to point it out! Godfrey
  15. Well I popped back into the station this morning to see if the Colas 70 looked any better in full daylight. Obviously beauty is in the eye of the beholder so for those of you who appreciate the shape and the sympathetically applied livery I offer you these shots. Sorry I couldn't get the other side! Enjoy! Godfrey
  16. I'm sorry but having seen one in the metal at Eastleigh station this evening I can only wonder how a manufacturer can produce such an ugly looking locomotive and then have a design team from the operators specify a livery that makes it look even more ugly. Godfrey
  17. Off to Alton soon to pick up my DukeDog which has arrived. Looking forward to this one. Godfrey
  18. Judge Dread writes "How about a DD unit?" Well in the latest edition of 'The Southern Way' - Issue 25 - there is a nice article by David Monk-Steel as Part 3 of his EPB Story on the very same. Lots of details and even good photos showing roof detail. Well worth a read if anyone (!) is interested in building a set. Godfrey
  19. Colin, As ever a wonderful piece of work, I just sit and drool over everything you do. You could of course just leave the emblem as it is, then when Hornby or Bachmann, or anyone else brings one out with the same mistake you will be able claim royalties! I gather the Ordnance Survey always put a mistake into each map to catch out anyone who just copies their work. You mentioned that you are exhibiting in Mid-Wales this summer; can you let us know where and when? I need to plan in a visit to see your masterpieces in the plastic as it were! Lovely work and thanks for sharing everything you do. very best wishes Godfrey
  20. As an example - Do they run up to Barnstaple? I have only done that trip once and I seem to remember only seeing 150s. Godfrey
  21. A fantastic job, Colin very many thanks for your wonderful contributions to this site. Have a great Christmas! Very best wishes Godfrey
  22. I seem to remember being told by someone who worked at PECO that Mr Pritchard Senior was quite keen to produce something more acceptable for UK modellers but was frustrated because he couldn't get any agreement as to what people wanted. Not a lot of change there then! Some folk complain that PECO do not respond fast enough to the demands of modellers, and sometimes I can understand that, but which other British Model railway manufacturer that started in the 1940s is still manufacturing - in the UK - and doing well financially? I gather the demand for their L&B stock has been fantastic. I would love them to do something along the lines of Tillig but based on British practice, I would buy it, but would there be sufficient modellers in the UK to make it financially worthwhile? Godfrey
  23. Hi Colin, Very difficult to say given the light conditions in your workshop and the variations that result from different monitors. I was amused to see how much variation there was in my photos of the 2BIL in Shildon and looking at the rakes of green Mk1s on the Mid-Hants there is a huge variation from one coach to the next. Is that because they used different makes of green paint or is it due to the effects of sunlight? Perhaps both. I did hear a rumour that Bachmann got their version of Southern green from the Mid-Hants. I still think Hornby have got the colour as near as I remember it to be so I would match it to that. As ever, wonderful work and many thanks for sharing it with us. Have a great Christmas and I'm really looking forward to your next project! Not saying anything about a book!!! all the very best Godfrey
  24. I was delighted to see it and when I asked at the stand I was told that there would be two exclusive Model Rail versions with different destinations/numbers coming out. It had been agreed with Bachmann. Good news
  25. I have absolutely no justification for one (apart from Rule 1), but mine arrived yesterday and I am just amazed how good it it. Congratulations to Charlie and Arran, all the heart ache and tribulations have certainly been worth it and your attention to detail sets a new standard in the RTR trade. I have absolutely no doubt that you have produced one of the best 4mm models ever made for the UK market. I know those 150 units will be gone in minutes and I just hope you make sufficient return on it to get the next project underway. Many thanks! Godfrey
