  1. Great layout, love the B&W's. 5660 on the Branch, back of the Brewery and Loco outside the shed are just awesome. Keep up the good work. Cheers, Gary.
  2. Hi Gwiwer, Great looking layout. The landscaping here is some of the nicest I have seen, from the beach/cliff areas, to the over-growth on the retaining walls, to station and railway yard detail etc, all very well done. The comment you wrote earlier about having 'patience' is ever so true. Another truth about railway modelling is having an 'understanding wife' !! I say you deserve that beer you have in your hand in your profile pic !! Here's cheers to you. Gary.
  3. If anyone wishes to purchase an Oatley Electronics IONB2 High Voltage Module, they are available now on ebay Australia The item no. is; 120845557359. Details on how to manufacture a dispensor can be found on by googling 'static grass dispensor'. Cheers, Gary.
  4. Not to mention the driver-less engines, passenger-less coaches and the guard-less guards van... I even threw a few photos up of my layout in the gallery section, of a cameo 'yard scene' where a flatbed truck is being loaded, but by whom ? There are no goods handlers/yard workers in site !
  5. Yes the balloon does work and does a reasonable job. Can be a little difficult in the tight access areas of a layout, where room is negated by structures or walls. I made my own static grass dispensor for as little as $28.00 AU (approx GBP 18.00), using PVC pipe (2"), some other PVC fittings, steel fly wire, insulated wire, a nail and a negative ion generator (Oatley Electronics IONB2 'Grassinator' High Voltage Module, available on ebay Australia for $14.00 + postage). Simply push all parts together, add the generator, some wiring and a 9volt battery and hey presto !! A lot cheaper than the Noch version for exactly the same results...
  6. They look good ! I always wonder what the actual dimensions a coal staithe of this size is ? There seems to be a lot of different methods in construction, from horizontal timbers (as yours) to verticle sleeper style, with step down ends on the road/yard side. I guess it comes down to poetic licence !! No matter how many layouts I look at, there are many variations of these simple structures. What (in scale feet) are the 1. height of bays, 2. width of th bays & 3. the overal length ?? Cheers, Gary.
  7. How true but funny that. That particular cliche is what I have modelled, bar the clambering cat...! Yes there are many cliches in modelling, whether it be a model railway, static display be it a war scene or a car garage scene! I asked my son what he would like to see/have on the model railway, (as he is only 6 and doesn't understand railway practices), and 4 main points were a turntable, engine shed, coal loader & a station all on a continuous loop. I would pretty much call it "poetic license". Afterall, the majority of railway structures were built 'near enough' to what would realy exist, to make it 'realistic' for him, although as you stated, you would not necessarily have all these items on a through station, but then again yes, the loader needs its own loco & facilities to marshall a train together. Imagine the possibilities... Cheers, Gary.
  8. Hi Jon, I have just joined this site and I'm in Padstow, Sydney... Seems to be a lot of Victorians on this site. I have just started an OO layout, with no particular area/region in mind. Just something for my son to run his Thomas on ! Although I am taking it a little more serious than a small simple layout !! Cheers, Gary.
