  1. Hi Mike Great looking pictures. Since applying the DAS clay and washes etc. have you done anymore work to the ballast area as in the pictures it looks very good. Regards, Chris Edit for spelling mistake
  2. Hello Steve What colour ballast mix, and manufacture are you using. This looks really good. I have read in a few places that ballast can sometimes have a green hue, but this may depend on who's ballast one is using. Thank you Regards, Chris
  3. Hi Brian this is fantastic, great photography, and very atmospheric. Reminds me of the phrase, "Less is more". I like your two 94xx models, are they the old Lima version or kit built ? Either way, they look very nice. Regards, Chris
  4. Hi Andy Great thread, I'm following this with great interest as I used to live in Downend and past through Bitton many times on my way to Bath. A lot of great research you're doing and makes for great reading. Great two locos too. Regarding the 9F, and I'm not an expert, was 92148 a WR/S&D loco? I remember the narrator of the Ivo Peters vol. I saying "that if you saw a single chimney 9F, it had probably been borrowed". Keep up the great work Andy. Regards Chris
  5. Budgie - wasnt that a TV series with Adam Faith. My that's a few years back.
  6. Hi Rob, yes you're right, from memory the "Redscaff" word was red. Its funny how memory plays tricks with you, but I also seem to remember some vans did not have the full black background, as in photo you referenced. Some had an all white background with the word having a 3D black shadow. The owners of the company must of had shares in Bedford, as about six pictures on from the link in your original post, the Bedford truck, sorry, lorry was also belonging to Redscaff.
  7. The dark building behind the "08" and the guards van, on the other side of Avon Street, is the covered dock building that later became the home of "Redscaff", a scaffolding company, after the dock was in filed. I worked there during the summer of '76, and often thought how the sidings would make a good foundation for a layout.
  8. Hi Dave, Question about your three story northern light building, is this scratch built or from a kit ? Regards, Chris
  9. Nice composition Chris. Lots of clear detail
  10. Hi William Great looking mine, is it scratch built or a modified kit Regards
  11. Hi Mike do you have an up-date on this great layout ? Regards Chris
  12. Hi Michael Fantastic modelling, both the loco's and track work. I really enjoy this topic and your Byworth Steam/Diesel MPD. Can I ask what medium did you use for the ash ? Was it real ash or Carrs ? What did you use to stick this to the base board, and with the large, thick piles did you have problems getting this to "stick". Regards
  13. Hi Michael as always, great detail with lots of atmosphere. regards
  14. Hi Tim some great looking weathering. Looking forward to seeing your 8F. Yes I'd be interested in more detail to the modifications you made Regards
  15. Hi James If you dont mind me asking what is "white sage ash" ? Regards
  16. Hi Peter I've been following your thread with great interest, and I enjoy your style of modelling. What is you progress, any more photos you have, we will all greatfully recieve. Keep up the good work Regards
  17. Hi James just for some fun in the "Cuts and Shuts" thread I posted this version Mr Collet's experimental 2-10-0 tank seen at Toddington Regards Chris
  18. Hi Peter man of a few words, I'm in awe. Although I've yet to start, I find this thread fascinating, and wish and hope that I could get to half your level. Keep us all updated with pictures and your technical information Regards
  19. Mr Stanier had his new eight wheeled tender shunted upto "Duchess of Scotland", seen at Butterley
  20. Hi "Flying Pig" you must have been reading my mind, when I was "cutting and pasting", I thought that for the LMS gadients and speed, that the tender should have been extended for the water and coal consumption. I know that this crosses over to the Imaginary Engine thread, and these few questions will show my lack of mechanical knowledge, but does the larger firebox and grate area produce higher steam preasure and higher speeds ? I was thinking as an experimental engine, would Mr Stanier have used standard parts and just extended the tubes. Did the LMS have a larger firebox ? I'll try a Mk II over the weekend Regards
  21. Mr Stanier was anoyed when the paint shop used an existing number for his new "Duchess of Scotland", seen here at Butterley
  22. Hi OzzyO sorry about that, shows my poor knowledge of LMS loco's. I'll update the caption. Your correction made me look up some information on Wikipedia, I did read, and find this interesting, that Thanks again
  23. Mr Collet's experimental 2-10-0 tank seen at Toddington
  24. Hi Hammer Thank you. This is not a model, it is a “Cut and Stretch†of an original image taken by “ax1709cjm†on October 21st 2006 from the Flickr photo website, modified of Kolhapur at Barrow Hill. This link to the original image Kolhapur at Barrow Hill Regards
  25. I thought the image at the top of page three was a myth, however 45599, Mr Stanier's stretched Jubilee, was seen at Barrow Hill
