  1. David Geen has had quite a lot to do with the Hartlepool commemorations - I shouldn't be surprised to see him on tonight's Look North which will include a feature on the bombardments.
  2. Isn't that works shutdown fortnight? When I was a kid and my dad worked to the rhythm of the Teesside iron industry we always had the last week of July and first week of August away. Day excursions during that period make sense.
  3. You've spotted that ground signal, Gilbert?
  4. Respect. I did have a slight niggle that not having it working was a bit lightweight - then it occurred to me. If Barry wants to run diesels, it would have been commissioned by then - so get him to make it operative and he can just pop the bag off for the last hour on Sundays at shows. Simples.
  5. If Ivan's having the record player, I was going to put a bid in on the bananas, but they're a bit past my point of no return. Maybe the Araldite, if it's unopened?
  6. I don't have any pictures of Frank Dyer's work, but I'd have said the two shots of Leighton Buzzard below rather contradict that statement:
  7. Unless he feels he's already hammered enough.
  8. If that were my P2, I'd have sent it back.....
  9. Almost all ex-POs, many with bright new planks evident. There's a very similar shot from 1934 (above is 1947) and it's very evident how much aerial photography has moved on during the war. Nice row of horse drawn delivery vehicles parked up in the yard above the wagons.
  10. If that's the nearest repair shop to the yards, you could have anything at all which had been knocked out as defective. There's an excuse for a bogie brick wagon for you, for a start. I've just been browsing Britain from Above - I can thoroughly endorse the comments above, but have a look especially at the Baker Perkins pictures which come up when you search for Peterborough. Zoom right in and just feast your eyes on those goods trains - strings of single bolsters, a boiler perched up on a bogie trolley wagon, a batch of pipes loaded in whatever was to hand..... weeks' worth of ideas for all these goods trains you can have now you've cleared all your carriages off into cassettes.
  11. When you say that, Gilbert, you mean they were in the fiddle yard and you hadn't noticed them? That really is something.
  12. They ended prematurely about 2 feet past the photographer.... But yes, otherwise.
  13. probably too late for you, MIB, but I was directed to this this morning. First I've heard of it, but it may be of interest to others with similar problems.
  14. I think Mr Foster has enough wagons to fill a sizeable lump of the yard as well. News this morning from the remoter part of Grantham and the other S&T (Scenery & Trees) department: Pictures courtesy Paul Bolton.
  15. Not a problem. I don't claim any expertise, especially on modern and/or foreign stuff.
  16. That van nearest the water tower should be an LMS one. There's always a nit to pick, isn't there? Shows how good the whole thing is, though, when that's all you can find to carp about,
  17. Hallo Peter, Have I understood correctly that you are proposing some kits of NER prototypes? As Jol has said, Danny does still produce lists from time to time and I happen to know that the demand for the NER coaches when he produced them was enormous. The late John Fozard also produced a number of diagrams which made up very nicely but they vanished with his death and I haven't heard any news of them reappearing. Chivers Finelines also produced 4mm bogie CCTs but I believe they may be unavailable at the moment. The 4 wheel kit Roger produced some years ago has never been re-released as far as I know. Bill Bedford does a number of diagrams to order as you are probably aware. Arthur Kimber has been talking about doing some more of the bow ended corridor stock. He produced a couple of prototypes some years ago which I built but is concentrating on his loco kits for the moment. Some of that stock would be most welcome. Please keep us advised of your progress on here, there's always room for pregrouping kits and new manufacturers are always welcome.
  18. Very neat and tidy. You should be very pleased with that.
  19. Fair point, Larry and I wouldn't expect my pre-1928 liveried Marne to run on Grantham, for example. Not at an exhibition anyway. My point was that the railway is there to be enjoyed and if a D11 is part of that then so much the better. If it feels awkward or out of place such that it affects the enjoyment then it ought to go. I wouldn't criticise anyone for striving for authenticity until it started to stop the whole thing being fun.
  20. Keep it and run it. It's your railway. When did the Directors start to be used on RCTS railtours? ISTR many of them were double headed as well. I had resisted a Director until recently but now I'm waiting for Marne to arrive. My great grandfather fought there. I don't need any better reason than that.
  21. I've binned my list now, but it's the stuff Dave Cleal has run out of - as set of 26mm drivers, some 10 spoke bogie wheels (I do listen, you see?) and Ross Pops. I think that was all for this project.
  22. Momentous evening for the DJH C1 which has the mechanicals fitted and moved under its own power. Pickups have also been fitted to the tender but as yet they're not connected. It does look nose high, but the packing under the cab has fallen out. The whole thing is about 1mm too high in point of fact but at this stage there's not a great deal you can do without major surgery and probably compromising the structural integrity of the whole thing. For those of you who like this kind of thing, here she is with the lid off. The rear axle is also still open to question - I know Graeme made a pony truck for his and I may go the same way - I'm slightly tempted by the radial axle idea but I'd have to wait for one to come through and I'm not sure I have the patience. Three of the four are now mobile and if Mr Markits is as prompt as he promised we might be well on the way to complete by Christmas.
  23. See also post #1353 for a pre production version of this joke.
