  1. I picked up a copy and have to say that it is a really nice publication. The era covered is a bit early for my modelling but fascinating nonetheless and the photos are of the highest quality.
  2. Wow! Can't believe I haven't seen your layout previously so thanks for putting this in the layout section. Can't wait to see more!
  3. Hi Mike Thanks for this info. I agree that there is a shortage of decent BR driver/crew figures. I've got a couple of Langley drivers but I'm looking for something a bit better for my Dapol class 122 and I did look at the Northumbrian figures but the website probably doesn't do them justice. I think I'll order a few drivers as they are very good value for money. Cheers Max
  4. Great atmosphere! I particularly like the ground covering.
  5. That's a really atmospheric little layout you've got there.
  6. Just spotted this thread. That's a really interesting layout you've got there and definitely something a bit different.
  7. Happy Christmas Martyn Crinan has been such an influence that I will be starting my own West Highland layout soon. Thanks for the inspiration. Best wishes Max
  8. Thanks for the explanation. I'm not sure I'd want to be too close to the pole when pushing as I imagine it has to transfer some pretty large forces via a couple of angled interfaces!
  9. This is terrific footage - really inspirational stuff! Especially those side-rods and that overgrown track. Does anyone know if the use of the pole is simply because of curve being too tight for the couplers or if there is another reason? I'd always assumed the pole was used to move cars on parallel tracks. Either way not easy to reproduce though I'm sure someone will prove me wrong!
  10. One thing I've noticed when researching Blue ScR units in the late 1970s is that the black set numbers on the cab fronts seem to come and go quite a bit. I'm not sure if they were only added when the units were strengthening an existing dmu set or if they were mainly just added to the non-guard end which would presumably have been the outer end (in the same way that the data panel is on the guards end). I've seen SC55002 with set number 152 on the non-guard end but not on the guard end though the photos were taken a few months apart. Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks Max
  11. Finally got hold of a blue 122 and, incorrect numbering and logo size apart, I have to say that I'm very impressed with the quality and running straight out of the box. This is a key piece of rolling stock for me so I'm going to give it plenty of attention similar to ColinK's approach above.
  12. Hi Colin You've done a nice job with the renumbering etc. I hope the missing exhaust shows up soon! I must admit that I'm tempted to get a couple of custom Rail Tec sheets for the number and destination blind. It's been a long time since I used pressfix transfers and I think the Rail Tec waterslides will be neater. All the best Max
  13. Hi I'm planning to use HMRS sheet 15 pressfix as I want to renumber as SC55002 with GG logo. Did you have any problems removing the original lettering? Best wishes Max
  14. Hi Shaun I've just spotted this thread. What a cool layout! I like the way you've avoided trying to cram in too much track and got the balance and atmosphere just right. All the best Max
  15. Bachmann did a jeep road-railer for the US market. The road wheels were actually flanged and disguised as tyres. Not sure if the wheel base is close to the landrover.
  16. Hi Merfyn Thanks for this information. I had a feeling it was bogus though I'm still going to add a few details as a mighty-have-been. As Pete points out - perfect for the cake-box challenge. Best wishes Max
  17. I couldn't resist this little beastie. I thought it might make a nice scene on a future ScR layout, maybe with a few added details. Does anyone know if it is authentic? The only photos I can find show a larger vehicle in later Network Rail livery. Good article in the September 2005 Rail magazine about operations on the West Highland. Cheers Max
  18. If you've only got two coaches to play with then you can't go far wrong with a BCK and TSO combination. In fact, you can even use the BCK on its own as the perfect one coach train.
  19. I agree with Shortliner about the costs of new models. The days when I could justify the expense of a new RTR loco are long gone though it is possible to pick up a bargain on Ebay occasionally. Shortlines and interurbans are still an affordable alternative to the big mainline stuff, especially if you like hacking stuff about, but I guess it depends what floats your boat.
  20. Hi Martyn I'm feeling your pain regarding the blooming! I seem to recall something similar with Testors Dullcote over Railmatch a few years ago. Even now I still have a slight feeling of dread when using Dullcote for the first pass. Max
  21. I've only just spotted this thread. What a great little layout. Can't wait to see the scenery progress.
