  1. No snow on the western side of the county, although some fell in Shrewsbury this morning, however, within 15 minutes it had gone. Went for a walk around Attingham and it was very slippy with ice in places. The rivers are still really high but thankfully on the way down. Some people seem to struggle driving on a sunny day let alone in the snow...
  2. I would use either an ethernet cable or wireless connection from the TV to the router and the apps built into the TV to start with. If in the future the apps stop working you can then connect something like a chromecast device from Google.
  3. We have Samsung (12 years old) and Sony (seven years old) TVs. Both of them use external sources for the "app" functionality. The Samsung used Google Chromecast and now a Sky Q mini box and the Sony a Sky Q box. One of the problems I have found with the embeded apps on the actual "smart" TV is that over the years they stop working due to the TV manufacturers not updating the software/firmware on the TV. This means that the app can no longer connect to the host service such as Prime. or Netflix. The Samsung which at the time bought had a number of apps including iPlayer hasn't had any smart functionality working for ages as from memory they only updated the software on the TV for 5ish years. Its very similar to the model for updates to a mobile phone.
  4. The Inventory of railway stuff is finished.Having looked at the number in the bottom right hand corner I have now got two jobs to do: Find a specialist model railway insurer Make sure the number in the bottom right hand corner is never revealed to anyone else who may live in the house....... Rather surprised at how much I had that I had forgotten about and some things that I thought I had bought from eBay that I clearly never had. A boring but necessary job finished
  5. I think you played a blinder. Avoiding Cheshire Oaks is a skill to be admired
  6. I do like New Balance trainers I find them very comfortable, so I must admit to buying a pair today. They were heavily discounted and even Made in Britain. I doubt many shoes are made in the UK these days. For putting up with a days "holiday" shopping I was treated to a Victoria Sponge and coffee which was rather nice.
  7. Update on the shopping. Julie is now the proud owner of two pairs of boots neither of which are needed for the holiday and nothing she needed for the holiday..... Apparently we are now off to the big M&S at Ellesmere Port.
  8. I have just been told that we are off to Cheshire Oaks for final holiday shopping..... Wish me luck please
  9. Our local Evri driver is OK, he at least puts parcels in the marked box, which is better than some of the Amazon drivers can manage. Neither Hornby or Evri could be bothered to tell us it had been shipped though.
  10. We went for a walk at Attingham this afternoon, rather blustery but at least the sun was out and it was a glorious walk as the site was so quiet. The river is up so high that all but one of the bridges in the park have been closed restricting the walks you can do. Speaking to one of the Rangers they believe the river will be even higher tomorrow as more water comes down from Wales resulting in the final bridge being closed.
  11. Its for a BR Standard 4MT 4-6-0 R2716. The double gear has slightly split, its either nylon or plastic. It still runs OK at full tilt but not at a slow speed.
  12. Just had a package delivered from Hornby. The parcel is approx 8x6x4 inches. Guess what was inside A large plastic padded envelope, two plastic bags, brown paper, a packing note and what I had ordered two tiny gears. All it needed was a tiny jiffy bag. Still hopefully this will mean I can get the loco going now.
  13. Happy New Year to all TNMs. My New Years resolution has been to put together an Inventory of all my rolling stock, Having hauled this out of the garage I'm slightly discombobulated at the number of boxes I appear to have. As I'm doing this for insurance purposes I think I might be wise to keep this under wraps as the total sum spent in the bottom right corner of the spreadsheet is growing at a rather fast rate. Have a great 2023 all
  14. The first glass of bubbles has been consumed, the turkey is burbling away, biscuits have been opened and my sense of taste is returning after three weeks. Merry Xmas to one and all and let's hope for a great 2023.
  15. When I had tags for Liverpool tunnels and M6 Toll they wouldn't work together so ended up with two tags, so I doubt it. Things may have changed as this was a few years ago
  16. Tended to be in the morning rush hour, when I had a client in Coventry. Before I got the tag I always seemed to get in the queue where someone in front had a card declined or somehow screwed up paying. Bit like in the supermarket lol
  17. Had the equivalent to one of those for the M6 Toll. It was immensely rewarding to overtake those people queueing to pay after they had gone flying past you on the motorway.
  18. Old Holborn for my Dad, still got some of them around
  19. My youngest son and I visited Warley on Saturday and there were some interesting sights to behold and I don't mean the layouts. Whilst we were at the Warley show my sons wife and Julie went to the Good Food Show which was also on at the NEC. They seemed to have had a fun time sampling cocktails and various other alcoholic drinks. We were rather lucky getting in to the NEC as we drove and a RTC caused really long delays of upto an hour apparently. We followed an alternative route on Waze which dropped us at the West car park which is just by Birmingham International. We were in the exhibition within 15 minutes or so of reaching the back of the queue on the M42. Unfortunately didn't see either Dave or Andy as the place was packed although we both had a fun day and it was good to meet up with a couple of other friends.
  20. Preparations have commenced on the fortified cake warehouse just in case anyone is planning a raid the day before
  21. To be fair it probably more of a very leisurely jog
  22. Have to agree, I still feel like I'm in my 30's in my head. It's when you run for a bus that your head tells you to stop being so daft
  23. It has now been officially declared that I am "old". We are spending a few nights in London and on the packed tube in the rush hour yesterday a young lady offered me one of the priority seats..... We did take the opportunity to ride the new Northern Line branch to Battersea Power Station. The way the power station has been converted is impressive but I've never seen so many security guards in my life.
  24. The fire protection was all upgraded following a fire at Clandon Park. We now have a new detection system, electrics and two massive water tanks buried at the front of the house to provide initial water for the fire brigade while they connect to the water main at the other end of the drive. Hopefully we will be OK
