  1. We had a Fiat Strada, remember the advert "Handbuilt by Robots" Really enjoyed it but then got my first company car
  2. Mine was a 1966 model and I think I bought it in about 1973. The oil pressure light came on when it was idling in traffic if warm, the suspension collapsed a couple of times and it was full of rust. But it was my first car JLL472D
  3. My first car was an Austin 1100 the front almost fell of when someone ran a red light and hit me. The rear of both the front wings had rusted through and it had been held together with filler
  4. Another busy few days, on Saturday youngest son, Canadian wife and her Canadian uncle came over for the day. Mitch (the uncle) is currently stuck in work visa no man's land. He should be at work in Ireland but the company screwed up his visa application, so he had to leave Ireland and came to UK rather than fly back to Canada. He's now been here for six weeks and is still waiting on his visa. On Sunday we had Julies Dad, Brother and Brothers OH over for the day. When Julies Dad tried to get his car started we discovered the starter motor had packed up. Phoned Green Flag they arrived in 25 minutes, got it started with the judicious application of a large hammer. We then followed him home to make sure he got back in one piece. Then today we had to leave at 0700 to collect him and return a petrol strimmer to a hire shop in Whitchurch. Then spent two hours mowing lawns until it started to rain. It was lovely to see everyone but just not used to seeing so many people for so long it's quite exhausting lol. After all of that it was decreed to be G&T time, I didn't argue Tuesday brings an afternoon at Attingham so that's normally quite relaxing as we are not to busy at the moment. I still can't get my head around how busy this retirement lark is
  5. Welcome to RMWeb from a fellow Shropshire dweller
  6. We were over at Julies Dad's yesterday for Father's Day and were talking about metrication. I had never really thought about it before but the only non metric weight and measure I use is MPG. I just can't get my head around litres per 100km. I'm quite happy with getting 60 litres of fuel but when talking fuel economy it has to be MPG.
  7. Lol Dave I don't think she takes much cr@p from anyone. She is as they say very direct and all the better for that They got married here in February last year, so she hasn't been able to go home and see everyone since the wedding.
  8. My daughter in law comes from Kitchener, she is now Head of Department at a school in Birmingham. They are off back home for six weeks over the summer hols. This will be the first visit home for her for 3 years
  9. Well this has been a frenetic week, two days of gardening at Julies Dad's and a significant amount of prep to get the trailer tent spruced up for collection by its new owner who turned up today at 0915 having driven up to West Hipposhire from near Brighton this morning. We then did the handover and he was heading south soon after with said trailer tent after transferring an appropriate amount of pound notes. He must of been totally cream crackered when he got home. But my bank account looks rather happier This retirement malarkey does seem rather busy I think I need a bit of a rest from it.
  10. It's another place added to our increasingly long list of places to visit. The list as seemingly growing exponentially. But the time to visit seems to be shrinking rather to quickly. This could be a problem Houston.
  11. Well yesterday at Attingham was quiet compared to the week before. No Sopwith Camels trying to land in front of the the mansion, or school kids. However we seem to have a date for reopening the ground floor of the mansion, which will be the 7th August subject to good luck and a following wind. One of the many hidden issues of COVID-19 has been a substantial reduction in the number of volunteers we have for reopening. Virtually all of us are retired and many of those in their 80's have decided to call it a day. A shortage of volunteers is I think going to cause problems for many organisations in the coming years.
  12. He did however forget the leather flying helmet, it was therefore fortunate that I noticed the medals....... Good to put a face to an avatar and hopefully catch up soon.
  13. What about the leather flying helmet? I'll be feeling short changed.....
  14. Yes seems very coincidental
  15. £300 with 3 days to go seems rather a lot for a Hornby Mk3 DVT in Arriva Trains Wales livery. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-R4640-ARRIVA-Trains-Wales-Mk3-DVT-82307-/265176348308?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286
  16. I start at 1330 and will be on (I think) either the entrance or exit to the mansion basement which you get to through the rear courtyard. Be good to put a face to an avatar Chris
  17. Lots of RMWebbers visiting Attingham on Tuesday it would seem as I will be volunteering in the afternoon trying to keep the hordes under control
  18. I bought a very cheap WiFi USB adapter ( I think it was about £10). It sorted out the problems we were having with the inbuilt WiFi adapter in Julies laptop.
  19. Hi all I am wondering if anyone can help with my quest to find what appears to be the six body retaining screws on a Hornby Mk 3 DVT. I recently purchased one secondhand on Ebay and it is missing all its screws. So if anyone can point me in the right direction towards replacements or let me know what size screws are required it would be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance Chris
  20. Stayed at a B&B in Colyton a couple of years ago. From memory there were two good pubs who did evening meals. The tram was good fun with great views and we had a good time at Pecorama. The shop was rather well stocked I seem to recall, although somewhat less so once we had left. It is a rather nice part of the world and its on our list of places to visit again. Although the "bucket list" seems to be getting longer and longer at the moment.
  21. If you are visiting Attingham in a couple of weeks you will be able to visit the mansion again for the first time in over a year. We are reopening the basement area initially. My understanding is that the upper floors may be reopened in July although this seems a little up in the air at the moment. We have a volunteers viewing next week so it will be interesting to see what has been done. Enjoy your walk.
  22. Having just bought a new desktop PC I can confirm the point about graphics cards. Many of them are virtually impossible to get and those that are available may often be going for significantly more than the retail price. Bitcoin mining is according to Forbes using 120 TWh (Terawatt hours per year), the equivalent of a small country. So it is hardly the most environmentally friendly exercise. It can however be absurdly profitable. I know someone who has made at least £50k from a £5k gamble. He's cashed in and left the £5k to run on. In many circumstances you legally don't have to pay any tax. It is however not for those of a nervous disposition or those who don't do significant research as it is very easy to get ripped off.
  23. We do have a stream at the bottom of the garden if that helps. Not sure the other occupier of this house and head gardener would approve of a Hippo wallow! According to the mole catcher guy they are very strong swimmers.
  24. Small consolation when we have a lawn full of mole hills
