  1. Apart from an obvious demand for 4mm and 2mm scale, a Lionheart/Dapol version of this would go so well with their B sets.
  2. Not sure what you are planning for the fiddleyard end, but you could simplify the station by having the freight side more separate from the passenger with the goods trains leaving on a separate single line.
  3. Still two first class compartments there, one with a door to the platform and the corridor, one with just a door to the corridor. I totally agree that there is no need for a model one to work - even if now quite doable with DCC. These Hawksworth coaches would only have been used as Slips for slightly more than two years, so more time just as a strengthener on other services, mostly branches. But I can see that it is perhaps not mainstream enough for Hornby. Could be an ideal special commission. I'm not suggesting that any preservation line should use slips regularly - just a one-off occasion (60th anniversary?).
  4. Regional boundaries changed a bit over the years. So, for instance, Panniers and other Western Region locos became commonplace at Exeter Central after the Western Region took over the ex-LSW lines west of Salisbury. But nothing quite so weird as a 14xx/48xx with LSW gate stock.
  5. That's ambitious! I am struggling to come up with an interesting enough design just for standard gauge in 7mm.
  6. I rather like Mokes. But I wouldn't want one that colour.
  7. Assuming that you are modelling in 4mm scale, I don't think so. IIRC all the L&Y units had long wheelbase bogies.
  8. Not quite right. They have never been relegated from the top flight. But their history is a bit odd as they gained promotion to the top flight not via the usual system.
  9. Even I could have scored a couple of those last night. The credit should go to the players who created the chances.
  10. Basically good but, as you say, there is a problem for departing goods trains. Since the baseboards are fairly narrow, I think the likely solution is to turn things round and have the goods area below (as drawn on the plan) the platforms.
  11. 3D rather too expensive when expanded to 1::43 - at least to produce complete shells. But a 504 might be built up in a modular style like Ian Kirk's coaches. I think I am right in saying that those same modules would also be appropriate for various 30x series units as well.
  12. The CHPR certainly had a number of water carriers converted from loco tenders. I'm not sure if that is one of them.
  13. Maybe worth reminding people that while CJF was editor of RM in the early 60s, these small space designs - occasionally he did a large one - appeared as "Plan of the Month". But there was also a monthly reproduction of a BR trackplan for those that wanted something to base a "proper" model on. So he managed neatly to appeal to a broad sector of modellers which is the big difficulty for most of the magazine publishers. I think that it is a pity that the magazines do not show more real plans like that and relate how they can be transformed into a model.
  14. Montelimar, a bit of a trek! Beware that many French shows don't pay expenses.
  15. It's why I asked. Crimson (Carmine) and cream seemed unlikely that late but it does not look like Chocolate in the photo.
  16. Might be nice to convert a couple of 373's to this sort of spec rather than scrap them.
  17. Looking at the plan again, I think that I would be inclined to get rid of the upper loop and replace it with an L-shaped terminus at the higher level (left-hand end). There is also scope to have a gradient down on the lower branch and continue on through the terminus shown to hidden sidings or even a reverse loop.
  18. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=hawksworth+slip+coaches&tbm=isch&imgil=ZI4xBEa3_mfsWM%253A%253Bw2k5X9-rEeo1dM%253Bhttps%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.rcts.org.uk%25252Ffeatures%25252Farchive%25252Fsearch.htm%25253Fcompany%2525253DGWR%25252526subtype%2525253D3%25252526class%2525253D%25252526location%2525253D%25252526srch%2525253D%25252526page%2525253D2&source=iu&pf=m&fir=ZI4xBEa3_mfsWM%253A%252Cw2k5X9-rEeo1dM%252C_&usg=__crYqFI6aet-3RdYigCesAy0bWKg%3D&biw=1366&bih=633&ved=0ahUKEwiro9GCqdHTAhXJCMAKHb3hCrEQyjcINA&ei=TYoIWevIG8mRgAa9w6uICw#imgdii=aHwmvp6ADJLd0M:&imgrc=ZI4xBEa3_mfsWM: And here's another, from the other end, in the RCTS Archive. Interesting to see it on a branch. Most of the slip workings that I have seen in timetables just served the one station. The photo shows it in traffic after its use as a slip. Edit: And here's another, also taken at Bodmin, with the locomotive not blocking the view: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=hawksworth+slip+coaches&tbm=isch&imgil=ZI4xBEa3_mfsWM%253A%253Bw2k5X9-rEeo1dM%253Bhttps%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.rcts.org.uk%25252Ffeatures%25252Farchive%25252Fsearch.htm%25253Fcompany%2525253DGWR%25252526subtype%2525253D3%25252526class%2525253D%25252526location%2525253D%25252526srch%2525253D%25252526page%2525253D2&source=iu&pf=m&fir=ZI4xBEa3_mfsWM%253A%252Cw2k5X9-rEeo1dM%252C_&uFI6aet-3RdYigCesAy0bWKg%3D&biw=1366&bih=633&ved=0ahUKEwiro9GCqdHTAhXJCMAKHb3hCrEQyjcINA&ei=TYoIWevIG8mRgAa9w6uICw#imgrc=W8MolmzRqzi1vM: And re-edit: Since both photos are labelled as being at Bodmin (I have a slight doubt about the first one), I assume that they were taken on the same date in 1963. But the second photo looks to me like carmine and milk, rather than chocolate and cream. Does anyone know what the paint scheme was? Would they have been on trains that had Chocolate and cream rather than crimson?
  19. Looking at the pic again, you are probably right that it is a narrow vestibule plus a window into the guard's van area. But that vestibule seems like a waste of space given that one of the first compartments has a door on that side as well. Might be a bit difficult to build up enough speed at Didcot to make a slip coach working. But perhaps on one of the preserved lines??? I think that people would turn up to see that.
  20. Just 34 passengers on a 10-coach train! No wonder the tickets are a bit pricey.
  21. Just depends on the surrounding landscape. A footbridge is unlikely for any station on an embankment unless a subway might be vulnerable to frequent flooding. If the station is in a cutting, a subway is unlikely but there might also be no requirement for a footbridge if passengers could use a nearby roadbridge.
  22. Not for me to suggest which clubs should survive. But seems to that a disproportionate number of clubs in the London area, particularly in the Premiership.
  23. That is the compartment side, so presumably what Chris is looking for. What a remarkable vehicle! They seem to have added a coupe first class compartment in what was previously part of the guard's van area.
  24. I have never had much of a problem with RMWeb when travelling in France. Sometimes quicker than here at home where the Broadband speeds are often "escargot".
