    An interesting comparison..............

Am I escaping the 'laws of physics here'? Two shots, taken of the same model, at the same distance with the same camera and the same lens (a Nikon 18-35, set at 35), the only difference being the different apertures.

    GibsonStanierMogul42970F.8.jpg.0a1e9b9649f2bac0f05c2fff1e923c9e.jpg

Aperture at F.8, the point of focus being the centre driving wheel.

    GibsonStanierMogul42970F_29.jpg.424fd6ff5fb899a7413535e037318e11.jpg

Aperture at F.32, with the same point of focus.

If, according to the laws of physics, the second image suffers because of its smaller (smallest) aperture, then I can't see it, other than in the top one the loco is slightly lighter - I could lighten the bottom one to be the same). In fact, the top image is really useless. I'll continue using the smallest aperture possible.

I've said before, I rather was baffled by physics. The only really interesting thing in my physics textbook (by Nelkon) was a picture of a 'Nelson' Class battleship underneath the Forth Bridge, though this never came up in lessons.

By the way, the loco is one of only three I still have for sale in the Peter Lawson collection (the 82XXX sold this evening). Built from a Gibson kit and a good runner, at £150.00 it's quite a bit less than its component parts!

That top one is like post cataract vision with lowish light.

As i was trying to explain.

  2. Depth of field is great, with fixed focus it is essential.

Eye based bright sunlight i can read number plates. And down to 250mm.

    Still short sighted.

Night time lots of grain and no focus.

Just amount of light and my own irises.

You get really good at understanding optics with a number of eye conditions and using glasses.

Also found the smaller the sensor   the greater the depth of field.

35mm, 2/3 in tube, down to CCD and whatever my newest HDV thing has.

    Depth of field gets deeper.

  3. As usual Guerilla up for technical acheivement.

As far as I am concerned they deserve it.

I was a big player of Killzone 3 multiplayer, it looked absolutely stunning.

I saw some footage from the first Call of Duty for the XBone / PS4 era and this will shock.

It was the same resolution and looked worse on Bone, than KZ3 on PS3.

Why not Railtec? I recently used the 7mm version of these for some Alumina wagons. They were very good.

Might be a bit expensive for 50 wagons, but he does do them in sets of 4.

You have to specify the numbers/ TOPS codes etc. but as always Steve is very good at asking for what he needs.

    Andy

For my minerals i noted down type, tops layout, tare, number.

Had one anomaly a Morton equipoes labelled MCV not MXV.

I wanted custom MSV, about 18 of same pool, won't do them.

    Prepared to pay as well.

Got the details somewhere. Actually have two complete rakes of numbers. But only want 7603 set.

  7. Transfers

Got a bit of a problem,  want to make up loads on TOPS panels, but cannot find the base transfers.

Over 50 wagons to be done.

Also one job i can't get railtec to do.

TOPS wagon panels pool version, letters for the codes, pool numbers.

    Used to be SMS.

    Anything like this anywhere?

Ironmink's designs are THE BEST! I have quite a number of his models that I have bartered with him for producing suitable transfers.

When printed properly, his designs need ZERO post-printing preparation - simply remove the supports, paint, and fit wheels and couplings.

I would say that models produced from Ironmink designs are equal to,  or even better than, RTR quality.

I fit brass bearings and LMS buffers, these are printed in the original resin so a bit fragile, unlike ABS Like, got 6 complete, running CCT transfers (thankyou).

They look a lot better in real life than on phone camera

  9. Wheel prices.

Due to code 100 streamline i can use slightly deeper wheels, 3 hole disc Hornby were good value,  now about 2.40 an axle.

So will be buying more from Gibson.

34 wagons, was expecting to cost about 100, now quite a bit more.

6.50 of bits, 40p of resin. Roughly 200 now.

I found spotting notes of a mineral wagon train.

    10 clasp

    20 Morton

    4 10ft

    All running numbers and tares

The photos are very cruel as they were taken in harsh summer light, in reality the model is very nice indeed, and as far as I know, the only way to get to a 419XX!

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers from Oz,

    Peter C.

My LRM one is coming along well, just detail parts and move some brake gear which is clashing,

  11. We were chatting in the office back in pre covid era, a youngish lad who goes to see bands was raving about the guitarist (not sure who), saying best he has seen and best there is.

Anyway I have see some of the best in the world, so mentioned seeing Van Halen in 1984, at the time Eddie Van Halen was probalby the best guitarist there was. Others including Gary Moore.

Then I mentioned that the older boss, can out do that. He mentioned going to a festival with friends, and who was there? Jimi Hedrix.

So I outdid with EVH and I was outdone with Hendrix.

As always there seems to be more Brakes and Firsts than TSOs, but have managed to (separately) buy 3 of the latter at aound £40. Did get a BSO for £12 recently!

Returning to topic would love some Accurascale MK2bs but not found photos of any on the Kyle line in blue and grey.

Will the Bachmann glazing and underframe fit a Triang body?

2 BSO and a TSO, hmmm

I am now working on a mineral wagon rake.

    34 16t minerals.

    10 MCV

20 MXV or MCV with Morton

    4 10ft MCV

This will be a lot of redin and LMS buffers.

So far 1 in paint, 1 near complete, 2 parts collected. 6 good MCV prints, and 2 10ft.

Iron Mink has done MXV .stl and i will start on these next weekend.

    Now transfers.

    Need a lot 34 16t mineral, 4 MDV , most of a pool MSV.

Who does pool numbers and bigger tops boxes.

Took me ages to decypher my notes.

Dome mad person wrote down all running numbers, tares, brakes, tops codes.

All were NTF no top flap,  but i could not remember NT, until last night.

No TOPS, as in no boxes.

    Currently in works.

Ex GWR branch corridor set, 1 vehicle being soldered.

    Ex LMS BT

Ex LMS hoppers 6 done out of 12, 6 to print.

    BR 1 2A 2D 2E 2F set half done, sprayed 2E TSO yesterday grey.

    Clayliners

    Various pre 64 vans

    2 mineral rakes

    Mixed hopper, mineral, tube rake

    Stone rake.

Layouts stalled in case we move home, as may downsize.

If we believe a quarter of what Sam had to say about the last 14xx, a 'latest standards' version would be brilliant - very, very popular locomotive - model and heritage full-scale railways, and obviously their original use on branch lines - very popular to model.

    Al.

Small prairies for branches, 14xx worked local mainline services.
