  1. Question: Does it count as a cabbing if you are in a vehicle that doesn't have a seperate cab (i.e. 1937 railbus)?

  6. He used to carry his guitar in a gunny sack Go sit beneath the tree by the railroad track Oh, the engineers would see him sitting in the shade Strumming with the rhythm that the drivers made People passing by they would stop and say Oh my that little country boy could play

  7. In complete opposition to the (rather saddening) story above, the other week we had a 'class' of EMU due out down here, and whilst photographing one, I had an offer from the driver to jump up with him. Unfortunateally, I was unable to as I had other things to do, but I know I'll regret not doing it for the rest of time now...
  8. That is a good point. I'll pop my head back down now...

  10. Be a problem if you drove that on the road. Local Council would love fixing roads with 1,435mm (or 16.5mm) gaps in them. I'd be tempted to replace the 'road' wheels with a set of proper wheels to sit on the track, then add a bit of weight so that they get traction, and make the rail 'guide' wheels actually work as rail wheels, assuming they don't do much at present. That's actually gotten me thinking... EDIT: Just noticed the ABSOLUTLY CORRECT graffiti on the wall!
  11. No soup for you!

  12. Piccies to match the last video (filmed by a friend who travelled with me to Cowan for that).
  13. Here's a couple fresh from a day's spotting: "Hot Seat" The driver of a coal train that had stopped at the platform to drop off two drivers for the next train back down. After this shot, he gave the platform a good shake with 4x3,250hp diesels. "Changing of the Crew" The dropped off drivers prepare to mount their steed for the return coal working. "G'day Fellas!" Don't know how to say it better than the caption. The secondman on the Mechanised Track Patrol Vheicle has a bit of fun!
  14. "Steady Now" Last one from me this evening. A mate of mine backing 3642 onto the stock to return to Sydney (same day as the one two above). Known for his large grin and beanie, both are lacking here as he concentrates on shunting carefully onto the stock. I have no clue what the black item hanging out the window is, but I think it's the radio communication device's handheald mouthpiece.
  15. "Mission Control" The control centre of one of the AK (track recording) cars at Hawkesbury River in January. Me and a friend, who was spotting with me, were invited into the cab of one of the two heritage diesels hauling the train, and were given a look around it. One of the crew entered the cab, and when finished, asked if we would like to see the inside of the control car. It's people like these gentlemen who are willing to give younger spotters like us a tour like that, that makes me enjoy being an enthusiast.
  16. "Birth of a Trainspotter" One of the crew helping out at the March Festival of Steam, having just lifted a young one off the running plate of 2705 from a photograph for the mother. I was told by a member of the Rail Transport Museum that the volunteer loved the shot, which made me happy.

I've seen it before. It's just a gnab gib.

  19. A double slip could be interesting to get working both ways. Now, I remember copying an article out of Railway Modeller a while back on how they did an operating coupling for a slipcoach. I think they used a small RC car motor to raise the 'hook' bit of the tension lock (suitibly altered with filed flat hook), and let it coast into the platform. I'll see if I can find the article soon.

  22. I just had a long overdue look back through this, and I have to say Castle that your modelling is getting better and better. The Siphon is quite wonderful, and another example of a piece of ordinary equipment called into the line of duty in WWII. P.S. Can we have Pendennis Castle back? Please?
