Used to happen at Bolton West SB from the footbridge that ran along the back of the box. Fire extinguisher sorted one of them out...

  4. A man sees a little boy in a park, eating lollies The man goes up to him and says "Son, did you know that if you don't eat sweets you'll grow up to be an old man' The boy says back 'Well, my Grandad lived to be 90' "Did he?, Well, did he eat sweets?" 'No, but he minded his own f*****g business!'
  5. We certainly do get around-and we're only two weeks into the year. The 44s are lovely, and they still get work, which is definitely interesting. The spot above was completely out of the blue, and we were almost unprepared for it. The Qube train had come through, and we were just settling down for a spotters lunch, when we heard the horn. She came out of the tunnel, and we went scrambling. I sprinted off the footbridge, down onto the platform ready for her to shoot through. It was a lovely surprise when it stopped, and even nicer was we were invited into the cab of the 44 and into the train itself while it was stopped. (Un)fortunately, after the V-set they were waiting to be overtaken by shot through, they had to depart, resulting in the above thrash/horn combo. My partner in spotting (who does all the filming) actually had to hold onto the tripod to stop the camera shaking! P.S. Also, there is a Newcastle Flyer heading up on Australia Day (26th Jan). I have it on good note that any combination of 4001, 44211 and/or 4520 is possible, given the amount of RTM diesels undergoing repair at the moment. P.P.S. We should be headed down to the FOS on the 3rd, for more footage and pictures.
  6. Again, WARNING: PHOTO HEAVY Having just spent the day up at the Hawkesbury River spotting, I managed to catch a few interesting workings: NR61, AN1 and NR2 head across the bridge, southbound Qube Logistics 1100 class 1107 and 1103 head through the station An unexpected sight was this track recording train behind heritage motive power: Inside the control hub 4501 and 4473 (both 3801 Limited) wait to depart 4473 giving off a fair bit of clag whilst departing, and the rear inspection car/generator/kitchen car! H-set H29 pulls into the station NR55, 58 and 10 pass at speed V-set V3 goes along the embankment towards Long Island at the end of a good days spotting And a video of the Track Recording Train (love that ALCO thrash!): The rest of the days videos will be posted later, once they get uploaded

Yep. Tasmania is the worst at the moment, with NSW already having a few going. Not good.

  13. Thanks Gary. I must admit, most of the camera work was my friends (as with the editing and description of the video), with only about 1 1/2mins worth mine, using his camera. The stills, however, are all my work. My camera, whilst great for stills, is pretty average when it comes to video. Our next upload will be of the rest of the day, including the Southern Aurora and the XPT (but that's a story for another day...)

    Hornby P2

They do plan to use the modified Thompson/Peppercorn 5000gal design, as opposed to the 1930 Gresley high sided, non-corridor design. This means that they don't have to get certification for a different design, and can just build the tender without too much worry.

  16. WARNING: PHOTO HEAVY Having just spent about half of yesterday in at Central, I must say it was a very eventful day. The NSWRTM New Years Escape Southern Aurora pulled in at around 10, with 44211 and 4520 on the front: 44211 pulls into Platform 1 44211, with 4520 just visible, glides towards the empty stock Then, not 15 minutes later, the Indian Pacific pulled in. This was quite unique to watch, as it took about an hour and a half to shuffle everything into the right place, and free the two locomotives: NR26 runs light engine down the platform 2 throat (this was taken in the 45 cab, and it was quite close as it came past the window). The locomotives in the background are DL40 and NR18 NR26 in platform 2, awaiting the splitting of the train DL40 in platform 3 with the front half of the train The two halves, after NR26 picked up the rear half NR18 couples up to move the rear half (now front half) clear of the run-round loop to free NR26 NR18 again runs past the camera after shunting the stock back down platform 2, to go and free the similarly trapped DL40 A short break was had observing an XPT leave (XP2008/2015), before heading for lunch NR26 sitting in the center road, awaiting clearance (bit of a bad shot) Upon return, operations were just restarting. Here DL40 and NR18 shunt the Motorail wagon onto the train After re-attaching the Motorail wagon, NR18 and DL40 are seen ready to run around and collect the other half of the stock Unfortunately, as the battery was running low, I don't have a photo of the 20-odd car train hooked up, and reaching almost all the way to Redfern station, but I will be posting a video in the next few days. (edited to attach missing photo)

    Hornby P2

The tooling won't fit (believe me). I tried to get the DoG version under a P2 (in a drawing), and it wouldn't work. However, after chatting to a member of the A1SLT, the setup will be very similar to DoG's arrangement, but taking into account issues such as clearance under the running plate, and the differences in coupled wheel spacing. So all Hornby has to do now is lower the height by .2 of a mm, fit an A4 cab, fit Caprotti gear and use Tornado's tender and they have an (almost) instant #2007! (and that's the short list of mods).
