Parsley Sidings. An Inglenook using some 1980’s locos and stock.

it may seem a silly question, when it wouldn’t move off with sound on, does it have a latching brake that was still on? I think a lot of models now use F2 as a brake, if the function is set to latch, then you need to operate it again to release the brake

Well, video 1 is shot, and now to try and edit it. here is the main traction for the layout, the loco I first bought new back around 1985 -
Well, as I have completed my Z scale Christmas layout, and still mulling things over on my Hither Green O gauge layout, I bought a floating shelf from my local hardware superstore I thought I’d use it to make a OO layout. now I’m a bit of a special type of person who looks through 1000’s of photos of prototype things and see detail that looks wrong in OO, mainly due to the track gauge. And for this reason, as well as issues with coupler droop etc meant I threw in the towel and left OO. however, being a shopaholic, and keep looking at stuff I like, I sort of went a bit nostalgic. From my youth I have the first loco I ever purchased new. A GWR pannier from Hornby in Gloss black. This was before I saw sense and went southern lol, anyway, with this, and a Percy I thought well, I could build something to play with, old school, so DC a few sidings, and with good old fashioned couplings which don’t droop and will line up. So I have bought 10 old mainline wagons for my locos to play with. so here is the plan, a DC powered Inglenook layout, with a GWR pannier, or Percy, and some good old code 100 track, manually operated points so the thing will all be robust and pretty much indestructible, and some nice scenic detail, so even if the track isn’t finescale, at least it’ll look nice. i will be videoing the build for YouTube as well as adding photos, all of which will be linked here. so here we go…..let’s play trains rather than be a modeller

Oops! Well it appears Kaminecke-Bahn will be taking bulk deliveries of coal I think they’ll look good behind the BR50

I've seen how stupidly expensive the double slips are, but luckily I’ve sourced one (second hand but as new and boxed) for £99. So with the track and points in the starter set I have that’s all I need with some spare too. Once the slip arrives in a couple of weeks I can look at placing everything down and sort out the base board
-
I have committed to the build and spent some money and bought some buildings I am open to suggestions for a very small station building or shelter. something in a small country village for example ive just got to find a double slip, then that will be all the track I need
-
This is the basic plan, as you’d expect, it’s an inglenook It should give me a little scope for some scenery, and one or 2 signals. I’ll see what I can fit width wise as it’s going to be built on a floating shelf, so I can take it down easy enough when I want to use it

Well, I have finally decided on the name of the railway as can be seen in the title now. if you translate it it means chimney corner railway…….inglenook! so the indoors German Railway will be an Inglenook shunting layout. I have an idea in mind how I want it to look (signals on the layout hopefully you’ll be able to assist in that) and also as it is still a museum line, it will allow me to run what I like. construction will start soon and I’ll update on here

that seems to be a perfect top speed

You can fit LED’s in place of bulbs, but what you will need to do is fit a resistor, usually about 1k ohms because there will not be any built in resistance on the model as it was not designed for LED’s. literally just replace one for the other soldered on where the current bulbs are, but remember, an LED has polarity where a bulb doesn’t
-
I have received an MBW V 200, alas it’s coupler got damaged in transit. the coupler looks the same as the one fitted to my Lenz V160, do you know if they are the same as I am aware MBW don’t do O gauge anymore and unlikely to have a spare?

when originally done and used on virgin trains to Ramsgate it did wear original flashes
-
awesome, thanks. Now I don’t think my BR50 will squeeze on that, maybe if I disconnect the tender….😝
-
thankyou for the reply, however what I’m really after is whether there were any in real life. I found a picture of a BR52 on one, but it turned out it was on a visit to Italy and not a German turntable. If you know of any photos of one in Germany I’d appreciate it
-
So here’s a question, was there ever a turntable built in Germany that had a full wooden deck over the pit either in a roundhouse or outside, so that a Lenz offering could be made to look more prototypical than the flat thing it is, or has anyone converted the Lenz turntable into a deep pit. Just thinking ahead here for a diorama part of a layout that could be picked up and moved in or out of the house. just thinking of something to show off my locos when I’m not using them

Currently on their way is a Percy, I originally bought one back in the 1980’s, and a Henry. Both Hornby. I will look at a Thomas at a later date and will obtain a pair of ex LMS non corridor coaches for Annie and Clarabel, as apparently that’s what the coaches were based on originally before the TV series came out in the books. It always niggled me that the tv series used 4 wheel coaches that Hornby also used when the books clearly showed them as bogie coaches
-
Well, my museum has just purchased an MBW V200. should compliment my other locos nicely, and is probably enough diesels now
-
Lol. Thanks for the suggestions. I hadn’t thought of those
-
Well, having just purchased a couple of the railway series locos in OO for a project, it’ll be good to see your interpretation of a more realistic version of the railway. It’s my intention to make my locos more of a realistic version of the railway locos, keeping their faces, but less toylike hopefully. I shall be following your progress

Building another O gauge micro layout and weathering stock

I will buy a loco on initial release, if it’s something I need in what will be a popular livery, on the basis, it might sell out then I’m stuffed, hence buying my intercity liveried 73. However, now I have one, I don’t ‘need’ more, however I do want more, so I am now playing the waiting game for them in sales. I could go for a Dutch one, to repaint into general grey, but I am happy for everyone else to buy as many blue era ones as they like. 🤔 Maybe another couple of intercity ones……

being in Australia, I can confirm

Hattons seems to get it in in batches second hand, and you have a retailer to fall back on if it’s not as described too. They have quite a bit at the moment
