  1. Almost 2 months on from the last post and nothing to show! Well lots of work has been done BUT nowt worth a photograph. Clive has done tons of scenic work but it's all white at the moment so an illustration of a ghost in a snowstorm would have more detail. The panel for the left hand side has been fitted but the top at the moment is plain. Ditto comment. The work on the 3rd panel (the DCC to DC > all singing, all dancing magic box) has come to a grinding halt because of a nasty paint reaction! I have to leave it a further week, rub it down, spray it with Barcoat isolator and start again. Bah Humbug

Said Collett auto tank conversion was not a great success. The flanges are possibly a bit too near to scale as it's great bunker first everywhere on the layout but smokebox first it's not happy on the 2ft 6 radius route Peco curved points. It's fine on the 5ft route. So a restricted engine!

Not a lot of movement here (it must be 1959!) as I only did an Ultrascale Hornby 14xx conversion in the last month. I have been working on a club project
  4. Not only did Clive photograph this he also sculptured it. It is the adjacent corner and will become a waterfall!
  5. The date mentioned above was the Members day and the layout was dressed. One of Clive's pics

  7. So I completed it BUT it's not a total success. I don't recommend this conversion. It runs fine around all of the layout including the tight 30 inch rad points in the fiddle yard bunker first BUT smokebox first it derails on the 30 inch rad points. It is however fine smokebox first around 60 inch rad points. If I could get more weight in the smokebox it would help but there is no room. It will be a reserve., rarely used loco. Again I thought I'd post here as some one else might tread the same path. Thanks to all who posted.
  8. Because when you get the left one free the right one springs back in! Eventually I got it loose but the plastic bit is a channel and tight on the metal part of the chassis. The wire attached to the plastic part is short meaning you can not fully separate the 2 parts. I got the driving wheels in but (for now) left the Hornby trailing wheel. I put the 3 bottom screws back in and tested the chassis . It runs OK on the straight but the trailing truck derails on points. So with a bit (or a lot?) more work I feel it will make a great loco. On here and elsewhere people have made a great job of tweaking the bodywork to make this 1P first class.
  9. Well Thank Guys you all inspired me bite the bullet. So I found a few pitfalls and thought I'd post here as some one else might tread the same path. Please excuse the rubbish photos It can be done! You need to remove the 3 screws underneath, remove the body and 2 screws (one fore and one aft) holding the metal bit to the plastic wheel retainer. Then there are 4 lugs to lever outwards. these are an absolute B!
  10. ................came at a good price S/H but unused. Loco run very well ....It's just appearance. I had 2 Hornby 14xxs this is far superior to the one I swapped. The quality of proprietary locos can be very variable.
  11. Hopefully some kind person on here has done the re-Wheeling Hornby 14xx With Ultrascale Wheels conversion? It may not be as easy as I thought. So I thought I would as for some advice. Ideally step by step. The kit comes ready assembled So in theory all you have to do is remove 3 screws lift the item 10 swap the wheels and reassemble? Things are never that easy! There must be pitfalls?
  12. Very interesting. I was going to switch between between DCC and DC by using an on off on switch and just switch the Common return. However others seem to swear by a Double pole Double throw. So if the power units are not connected is this sufficient?
  13. I have had a lot of help with electrical problems on this thread over the recent past. So I am hoping for even more advice on finding a suitable switch. Ideally it would be panel mounted and have 3 positions 1) left controller 0) centre off 2) right controller and look (I think) a bit like thisI will need 4 of them Cost is (as always) a consideration.
  14. Clive just sent me this. He was busy yesterday setting up for our long running session today.
  15. OH OH I got outvoted on the panel colour scheme! It has to be Black and White as per 'tother control panel. But I got a bargain on the box!
