  1. Now you have Jason's point to work from and you know it works stick with that as your pattern and all will be well. There has been some good discussion in the last few pages but it has got quite confusing at times but I think we have all learned a lot more about building track then we ever knew before.
  2. Your welcome Mike, easy to do now you know The photos are much better now than the postage stamp size you were posting before. One click on a photo and I've got a screen full of S&C, great
  3. That's the best laugh I've had all week
  4. OK, pleased you like it, instructions by email sometime tomorrow.
  5. Just a test post Mike to show you how photos can be larger than what you are posting at the moment. If that is what you want I'll go back to email and give you instructions how you can do it in the future. If you click on the photo it will enlarge and it is still only about 300k in size I am using Firefox browser and zooming in at 150% the enlarged photo nearly fills my 23inch screen with no loss of clarity at all.
  6. I am sure that is correct. Take the photo below showing weighted levers: If the wagons came out of the yard the wheels would throw the points as they pass through and the weight would return the point blade to its current position. When the wagons return to the same siding a human would pull the lever away from the track and hold it in that position until all the wagons have passed, when releasing the lever the weight would return the point blades to their current position. There is further reading with the links below, some of it is heavy going and I cannot say from scaning them quickly that it says the lever has to be held all the time. http://www.microlp.co.uk/Homea/homeafiles/Point%20types%20NL3-020609ni.pdf http://www.valleysignals.org.nz/track/springpoints.html http://www.irse.org/minorrailways/publicdocuments/PA01%20-%20Mechanically%20Operated%20Points%20v2.pdf http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/mines06.pdf
  7. Weighted (sprung) points: Have a look here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/91833-hand-operated-points/?hl=%2Bweighted+%2Bpoints&do=findComment&comment=1639439
  8. I'm about your age Andy. I find the mind is willing to do things but the body can't do what it did ten years ago. I have got my wife's mother and father who are both nearly 90, who need daily care which my wife does and I am doing all the maintenance and running their affairs, so basically running two households and it gets hard work at times. We are about six miles away and they always want something doing after I've got home, arrrrgh. As to your health, you told us all a little while back so its not hard to have a reasonable assessment of how you are. You are a very sociable and likeable person, who likes to be friendly and helpful to everyone you meet. That is all too apparent from just reading this forum. Yesterday and today's posts just on the Bitton thread alone have taken me ages to read and digest. But you Andy are not only reading them, you're brain is whirring away replying to most of them, creating new posts, some with photos and that all takes an enormous amount of time and effort. Then, you are all over the forum looking into and contributing to other topics as well. Then, you are doing all these other things like track building, shelving, etc., etc., in between. How you find time to walk the dog I don't know. or is the dog taking you for a walk. So all in all I see you rushing around non stop all day long without pausing to recharge the batteries once in awhile, which in the long term is not good for your overall health. Please don't think I am criticising you Andy, far from it, it is just what I have experienced with my own family and friends that sometimes makes you stop and think a bit. Good news with the Optitions this morning. That will make you raring to go even more now.
  9. ANDY, slow down a bit, you are getting information overload and rushing about doing as much as a twenty year old. We all want to see a railway built but not at the expense of your health. You have had one warning this year, just take it a bit easier please.
  10. What you have to watch with PDF files. If they have been created with Adobe which is American software , their default paper size is 8.5 x 11 inches, if the person creating the files has not altered this to the European A4 size then scaling errors will occur when printing. Edit: which seems to bear out your 85% in the above post
  11. I'll start the ball rolling on my thoughts. Never tried this and it has probably been done before I am still thinking about the working 4mm man with pole while the whisky is flowing
  12. Its a prototype for curing the condensation problem of the Potting Shed.
  13. That looks nice Andy. I just don't know where you find all the time to be doing these things. Your days must be longer on the part of the planet where you live.
  14. That's your own fault for going on holiday and leaving us with no option but to talk amongst ourselves. I bet you go somewhere with wi-fi next time to keep us in check
  15. BITTON, (from the ground up) Index in Post 1, back on track from page 101 should have gone to Specsavers George
  16. Like me, too busy watching the Grand Prix
  17. I hope your good men will be up to the job of marshalling the carpark, providing crowd control, barbequeing the sausages and brewing the tea

  19. Yes, Bing Maps does show better ariel images than Google
  20. It could well be three arch, certainly shows two arches in those small photos. Yes it is skewed. Cannot see anything either side of the bridge on google street view as the embankments are overgrown with trees.
  21. Not old photos, but I think this website might interest you http://bristol-rail.co.uk/wiki/Category:MR
  22. Could be this http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/74639-using-historic-os-maps-to-trace-disused-railways-and-tramways/ Edit: I think this is the site you may be looking for http://www.sabre-roads.org.uk/maps/ If not, in the search box at the top of the page enter, old railway maps, click on This Topic and choose your search options
  23. Bl**dy hell, I hope its not what you're thinking Mike I think what Andy meant was his external drive. Please say that's what is was Andy :scared:
