  1. Yarmouth docks were a tramway, and as such skirted locomotives were used there, includine the final diesels. Terry
  2. Should all be "R" stock, being in silver/unpainted livery. "CO" and "CP" stock were never painted silver. Eventually all "R" stock were painted silver to differenciate them from "CO" and "CP" stock on the District Line as they were incompatible for coupling together. Terry
  3. According to a question that I asked several weeks ago, Kernow assured me that they will NOT have a coreless motor, unlike the D6XX Warship. Terry
  4. SCARM plan of the 8 x 4 loose laid layout we ran at Milton Court Care Home - Milton Keynes, yesterday, 1st June. This is a simplified plan of a design of another group member. The plan is not geometrically correct, and also needed "Ad Libbing" during assembly. A bucket load of straight short rails are a blessing at times like this!!!! Photos and a video are available on the "Hornby Dublo Trains - HRCA" Facebook page. This is a closed group, but, if you are interested in Dublo, I would recommend that you register. 5. The "positive earth" of Dublo 3-rail could stem from the practice of car electrics, which up to probably the 1950's/60's were positive earth!! I believe that it was thought, at the time, to reduce corrosion in the electrical system Terry
  6. The barrage balloons on Scrubs Common were used for parachute training. I used to watch from afar on Jacobs Ladder at West Ealing. Terry
  7. My 1361 in BR Black with Early crest arrived from Hattons yesterday. I ran it in today after checking that the axles moved. I ran it for one hour in each direction on my rolling road, in half hour stints. It ran perfectly and smoothly all the time. The only comment about the loco is that in certain lights the saddle tank has a greenish hue!! and the smokebox is a little tall against the saddle tank, but a lovely little loco to complement my 1366. I have fitted Hornby straight couplings to both, rather than the cranked Heljan ones I now need to test run them both with modern freight stock. the 1366 managed 4 Hornby Dublo wagons plus a brake van, although it could probably manage a few more, but that was all the Peckett could manage!!! Terry
  8. It is my understanding that The Berkshire Dolls House and Model Company of Twyford have a few of each of "Dodo" and "MSC 11"in stock !!!!!
  9. I have used Relcos many years ago with 3 rail track and an H & M duette with "cab control" with no issues. I wouldn't bother to use them now just clean the track, collectors and wheels as necessary.!!!!! Terry
  10. Last incarnation for a while of my Dublo 3-rail. Local primary school summer fete - Driver experience layout, therefore only 4 circuits. In order to prevent reversing and over speeding I use a dual controller system. Each circuit is controlled by a A3 transformer/controller, the variable DC output is then fed into the AC input of a C3 (slave) controller. this is then connected to the track. Maximum speed and direction are controlled on the C3's by a supervising operator. Will not bore my readership on this subject for about a month. Note to Brianusa, similar photograph, but I an in Tony Penn's!!! Terry
  11. I believe that it could be, there were a number of neverwazza's and Dubloised foreigners brought along by Rev Kip. Also a 3-railed EFE 1959 tube stock with fine scale wheels that was unhappy on Dublo points and diamonds. I understand that it is OK on 3-railed Peco track. To be pedantic, it's on three 6 foot x 2.5 foot tables, giving a layout area of 7.5 feet x 5 feet. Designed in SCARM by my son Mark Regards Terry
  12. HRCA Forum - Photos from Mortimer 8/6/2016!!! Terry
  13. Playing with Dublo 3-rail again (Still) this week at our local HRCA meeting. Terry
  14. BTW my layout at Padfield court was loose laid on eight 4 x 2 foot tables giving an area of 10 x 6 feet. The layout design was done using SCARM software that was introduced to the HRCA via Garry (Golden Fleece). In truth what is shown is a shall part of my "collection"!! I do not have a fixed layout as I enjoy designing Dublo layouts. I made some changes/improvements to the design once I had returned home!! What you see there was transported in a Ford Focus estate along with four people. Terry
  15. My Hornby Dublo display at Padfield Court sheltered accommodation in Wembley yesterday 23 May 2016.
  16. Stephen, I have not noticed this on the Met BoBo, but have on the LTM/Bachmann "S" stock. I believe that is caused if the motor looses power for a fraction of time. the motor generates a reverse polarity causing the flash of the wrong direction lights. Terry
  17. I have run both of my Met locos on Hornby Dublo 2 rail standard radius curves with no issues. These are 15 inch radius.!!! Terry
  18. I would appreciate some clarification from Jason/Bill For my sins, my "first love" is my Hornby Dublo trains that I first received in 1950. I still play with these regularly but using 1955 A3 controllers, not the 1950 D1 Jason!!!! I presume that the problems with the "old train set" controllers is that being either variable resistance or Variable transformer units the output is "un-smoothed"t. A 12 volt un-smoothed DC supply has a peak value of about 19 volts. I, therefore, believe that the APT-E should only be operated from an electronic controller, where the 12 volt output should be 12 volt peak. I do not know what methods are used to vary the voltage by various manufacturers, but believe that the output voltage can be adjusted by directly varying the voltage level or by chopping a steady 12 output (pulse with modulation) I have no idea which controllers use which method, or even if it makes any difference!! The only electronic controllers that I possess are two 1970 kit built Codar units with simulation, which I suspect are variable output and hope will be suitable to run my APT-E - DCC ready when I get to a layout with sufficient clearance. I need to run the motor cars in on the rolling road first!!! Best regards Terry
  19. Mine was put on a delivery van at Reading UPS depot at 06:53!!!! As I am within 6 miles of the depot, it will probably be delivered near the end of the "run", when the van is returning to the depot!!!! Still waiting patiently Terry.
  20. Inspite of the email from UPS, mine has not yet arrived! I suspect that had the email as I am registered with UPS. Checking the tracking information I see: - Location Sedgefield, United Kingdom Date Local Time Activity 31/03/2016 17:36 Origin Scan 31/03/2016 14:03 Collection Scan 30/03/2016 16:22 Order Processed: Ready for UPS Therefore the estimated delivery was a little ambitious. Now expecting it tomorrow!!!! Terry BTW I am located in rural Berkshire!
  21. Email from UPS, mine is due today. (non sound) Terry
  22. The Beyer Garrett on the Wrenn layout is a recent limited production model, made in both 2 and 3 rail. They have Dublo running gear and motors, with hand built chassis and cast superstructure. A 3 rail version managed 84 HD super detail wagons, not the most free running!!! Terry
  23. Hi Jenny Good to see that you have "seen the light". I am one of a number of "Geeks" who regularly run "loose laid" 3 rail layouts and am very pleased to see your input. You will of course need to connect a "fiddle wire under the turntable between your incoming road and the single road to power the shed roads. A number of us will be presenting a lare "loose laid" 3 rail layout at the Warley show at the NEC in November. Terry
  24. Thanks Don Glad that you are mobile again and can keep us updated pictorially with progress. Terry
  25. Having been lurking on this thread, I would just add that, with my son now 37, I ran 16 out of our 18 Hornby Thomas range locomotives on the Holt model railway on the Sunday of the NNR Thomas weekend. The children were all "over the moon", although for some reason some seemed to confuse Duck and Oliver with Percy (same colour). I had posted a picture list of "Really Useful Engines" that they might see on the railway. Thomas is about 30 years old, a present for my so then aged 7, It originally had a "standard" chassis which gave no end of problems. It was returned to Hornby and was fitted with an SSP chassis. Will be doing the same next year. Terry
