  1. Further to my post #3244 I have just read Andy York's review in BRM and he also mentioned that he felt that the "Rail Blue bodyside stripes and bogies have a touch too much green in the mix" Can anyone please confirm what the prototype colour is? Is it "rail blue" as per BR blue & grey corporate livery or something else? Thanks.
  2. Got to unpack my APT-E yesterday and I wish to echo what everyone else has said about how brilliant a model this is. One thing I had not noticed before is the colour of the "blue" window stripe. In most photographs of the APT-E (including the poster included with the model) it looks to be blue and silver. However the model is more of a "greeny blue" rather than the more familiar "BR blue". I had not realised this and wonder how the Rapido colour matches up with the prototype as it was in the 70s and as it is now at Shildon. Any comments from those familiar with the prototype and the model would be of interest. Thanks again to Rapido and Locomotion for a wonderful project and especially to Sandra who had to put up with our impatience to get our parcels.
  3. I'm sure your wife is impressed that you can't wait to get home to see her. ☺
  4. Prototype for everything including motors in the cab.
  5. Great video. It's good to see trains running at speed. Makes a very pleasant change from the ones that crawl at scale walking pace in an attempt to be "realistic" BTW What is the camera train that goes even faster than the APT-E?
  6. Reorte, yes I can now see the subtle difference. Thanks.
  7. Andy York. I like the new header on RMWeb. Very nice and topical.
  8. That looks real good Craig. I have four extra trailers so when I get mine unpacked it will be 2 power car plus six trailers. I have plans to modify the interiors to get rid of the "half seating" in the prototype. Four trailers will give enough full seating for two coaches. I will put alternative interiors in three others and I have plans to rip out the instrumentation interior and "flashing lights" (sorry Jason) and convert that coach into a dining car using a spare Hornby Gresley dining car interior suitably modified. The instrumentation and flashing lights will be relocated in a lineside factory building. It will be a few months before I will get a chance to do this but I'll post pictures when I do.
  9. Slightly OT and not aimed at Reorte, but why do people use double negatives? Why say "it is not an unskilled job" instead of saying "it is a skilled job" ?
  10. The Albert Clock in Belfast has both the time and the inclination. http://www.geograph.ie/photo/1332550
  11. I think it shows two pick up shoes and two rails between the running rails.
  12. The centre coaches for the Triang Hornby blue pullman did command high prices for people who wanted a longer train.
  13. [tongue in cheek] Were any studies done regarding the performance of the oil lamp when tilted at high speed? [/tongue in cheek]
  14. Crazy money. If I were to sell one additional trailer car the APT-E itself is nearly paid for! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/APT-E-Trailing-Carriage-Car-Locomotion-Models-National-Railway-Museum-NRM-/331834112003?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=9leRrmJSuIyGIOUH7QXExx43nwg%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
  15. Another item for Sir Hadyn to display at Shildon.
  16. I was there. Quite a few railway enthusiasts travelled on the last train out of the old GVS. Many of us also travelled on the first train out of the new GVS many years later. NIR also arranged that the latter train consisted of the exact same 3 car 80 class set and driven by the same driver.
  17. That problem is easily solved by removing the crossing and building a wall where the gates used to be.
  18. Stationmaster even though I am a former General Manager of the Operations Division of Northern Ireland Railways I have no problem using my real name. If I am unsure of something I either say so or don't make a post.
  19. Before we all get hung up on the tractor driver saying 30 seconds, remember that the 30 seconds issue was just part of Beast's speculation or example on post #1374.
  20. This is speculation as to possible faults by the tractor driver. Further speculation might say the signalman gave permission when he should not have for whatever reason or misunderstanding. Further speculation may blame the train driver (e.g SPAD). Without the facts we should not be speculating in a biased way (i.e. in this case biased in favour of the railway)
