  1. Got a very reasonably priced Bachy Jinty to go under a Flatiron and put the body on Classifieds.
  2. Back to the Flatiron saga. Trying to get pick-ups on the chassis was a right pain and I could only manage to do the front and rear wheels. There are holes in the chassis where you would think plunger pick-ups would go but these are not in line with the wheels. With the final drive cog on the middle set of wheels freewheeling I could push the loco on track with no binding of the rods. Put power to the motor and the gearing ran sweetly. Tighten up the grub screw on the final drive cog and binding ensues. After a week of fiddling and general messing about, I thought life is too short for me and bought a very reasonably priced Bachmann Jinty of the Bay of e. After cutting off the outside brake pull rods and applying several slivers of Plastikard to the body to bring it up to the right height, I feel as though I'm getting there. Next a decoder fitting and then then fixing the bogie in place with frame extensions to reduced the daylight around it.

  4. I hate to say it at this stage but does Peter's terraced houses need their backs now? Or have I missed something?
  5. The male of the species is stereotyped by trying to get something to work or go together without reading the instructions first.
  6. Nice to see it again. My parents were very friendly with Robbo Robinson, wife and daughter who I believe was the last(?) at Hartington or at least very near the end. He used to be at Penrith but he took part in a strike and moved to Hartington for his trouble. Few Union Laws in those days! His sons worked out of Buxton MPD.
  7. It doesn't seem to have much history about it. About a month at best for me.
  8. I've wanted a period North Western Road Car Co Ltd bus from my layout. They ran between Buxton and Manchester and Buxton and Ashbourne (service 65) so passed through my childhood village. One was often parked at the fan window end of the LNWR station. A NWRC Bristol L5G appeared on the "Bay" so I snapped it up. Here's mine is at the station. Some close ups.
  9. I used to visit Peters regularly when living in Middlesbrough up to 1999 then up to 2014 while still working on Teesside. New prices were matched to box shifters and their 2nd hand was competitively priced. Don't know what's happened to them in the intervening years.
  10. And when all else fails, read the instructions.
  11. Are there any info/photos on the net of this? I know after it was completed it was sold(?) and altered. I lived a couple a couple of miles from Hartington on which it was based.
  12. I was going to ask for an English translation.
  13. Or just copy to and including the "?" Then paste i.e. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185901452126?
  14. It would be just a bog standard brass pillar tap, wouldn't it? No hot water either. They'd use the kettle on the stove.
  15. Sometimes there was a seam in the boiler clothing along the boiler top. Don't know about GWR locos though.
  16. That's wild enough although it gets wilder.
  17. I can confirm Jeff is fit and well, just not doing any modelling at the moment. Tied up with astronomy. Hope Jeff doesn't mind me speaking for him?
  18. Whose bricks are they? They're best embossed ones I've ever seen where the mortar is not as thick as a brick.
  19. If it's any help there's plate 88 of the same book and it does not appear that the loco has a pair of pull brake rods. I must admit I put a double inside pair on my large wheeled 2F.
  20. View Advert Brassmasters Black 5 Never got round to finishing this model and never will. Needs an experienced modeller to complete. Brassmasters Black 5 with sprung chassis.
