  1. I can only comment on what I have seen in Germany, on several recent visits, some restaurants ask for covid pass and fill out a locator form, some ask for nothing, on a tram recently the driver challenged a non mask wearer, who replied does not have to for medical reasons, end of story, have witnessed that three times now. The German authorities can no more enforce it than we can, there is also a larger and more vocal antivax movement.
  2. Also beware bore holes can cause all sorts of issues, in Europe there have been problems with the bore hole disturbing the water table leading to major on going structural problems. whole villages have been affected, by a single bore hole.
  3. Heat pumps have been around for some time now, I worked on a new build house near Maidstone 12 years ago, the client specified a grey water system for toilet flushing, as well as a ground source heat pump, an extensive grid of pipes, we used blue water service pipe, buried in the garden, under floor heating and the unit about the size of a large fridge in the integral garage. Often wonder how it all really worked out, an option for new build, not sure how practical in an existing house, considering how many houses suffer from ill fitting windows, damp, no insulation and general lack of maintenance, in desperate need of upgrading, maybe the money would be better spent there.
  4. Todays replacement for the Hyster, another 3D printed from Shapeways, a very finely designed kit could be built with fully positional hydraulic rams, boom, steering, suspension, engine cover and cab door. I have added glazing, wipers and hydraulic lines.
  5. Hyster lumber straddle carrier at Builders First Source, Plant City, Florida, must be enthusiast owned to be in such good condition for a 1950s machine. 3D printed from Shapeways have added screen, tilt and wiper.
  6. Seen at Plant City today, Hyster lumber straddle carrier, this is a 1950s machine must be owned by an enthusiast judging by its condition. 3D printed from shapeways, canvas tilt, screen and wiper added.
  7. Was tempted by this download, but needs to be swim headed, ie. hull fore and aft cut away, for my interests around the Thames and Medway. The hull design looks more continental to me. Have printed off the cargo ship, in 4mm, which I hope to build soon.
  8. Have been in Germany the last two weeks, back in UK Monday, masks required in shops etc. also have to show covid pass in hotels restaurants etc. my NHS letter accepted without comment, my wife has the EU pass, the thermal bath spa in Bad kreuznach asked for pass and photo ID, some restaurants did no checks. The regs do have some odd results we visited a large bookshop in Dusseldorf, the cafe inside is very mixed up with the books, we had to show our covid pass to sit down for a coffee with no mask, while all around were customers with masks but no checks. Must also add I think the NHS is such a good thing for us, I have already had my invite and winter flu jab while my wife in the Germany health system has to look out herself for a Doctor who has some available, none available yet. Noted hardly any precautions being taken by, particularly younger people, out in the evening in Dusseldorf old town.
  9. Hi ColinW Intreged by Strood Dock, as you may know my house is built on the site of the sidings next to Strood Dock I have the original SER retaining wall running through my garden. Any photos as I am in Germany for the next week, probably see you at Tonbridge next year.
  10. Always on the lookout for sink holes, drilling rig ready for another trial hole, Plant City Florida.
  11. Out of interest currently reading the history of Averling and Porter, the traction engine and steamroller manufactures, who had a strong export market, even then 1900s they had to produce a different boiler design to meet the German regulations, and firebox design for the South American market, nothing is new.
  12. There are fish and seals back in the Medway now, but probably not many at the time of this model, anyway visibility is always zero!
  13. Hi Like the layout and the theme, the River Medway is at the end of my road in Strood, complete with Russian submarine, for interest here is the 1934 map.
  14. Just completed today,Motor Vessel WHITE SWAN Built 1922, wrecked 1956. HO scale Sylvan Scale Models resin kit, built much as the kit with railings and the ships boat replaced, plus some other details added as seen in the the prototype photos, found five on line, pictured on my Fulton Terminal layout.
  15. I've build a number of their boat and structure kits, important to clean the resin of release agent, I used warm soapy water, then rough up the glue surface, Bostik both solvent free and original worked well, but superglue worked best in my view.
  16. Used my covid passport for the first time yesterday, here in Dusseldorf, to sit inside a restaurant, my wife has the EU covid app as she was vaccinated in Germany, you show the app then scan a QR code at your table or at the entrance, this gives your location, my paper NHS covid form was accepted but I had to fill out a paper locator/ contact form.
  17. I am currently here in Dusseldorf, have noticed electic charger leads crossing the public footpath, does not seem to be a problem, but in the UK it would be as everyone would fall over it, or it would be stolen. Not an ideal solution but in the short team it works.
  18. Just an observation, will anyone really check your covid pass? I travelled to Germany two weeks ago via Eurotunnel, after getting all my paperwork in order, and the worry that the covid test results may not come on time, the French border control hardly glanced at it, but for the first time did stamp my passport as a non EU citizen. Travel back to UK next week so have been caught by the new Amber plus regs. which is a bit over the top considering I am only driving a short distance through France and maybe not speak to a single person, apart from border control. Let's get everyone vaccinated, so then no need for a covid passport, but of course some will always resist, allowing always for those who cannot have it.
  19. Have noticed in various threads, comments that Stainless Steel is difficult to solder, I have found Carrs Brown Lable flux, with ordinary multi core solder and an iron at 400 degrees to work very well, have been soldering brass posts to etched Stainless Steel chain link fencing, and an etched Stainless Steel signal gantry kit, all in HO. Post just to let everyone know it is not difficult to solder or am I missing something?
  20. I have used some from Reality in Scale a Dutch military modelling company, sold as 1/35 scale but I think the small ones were fine for HO, resin trunk with laser cut plastic fons. Would post a photo but am away in Germany at the moment, some photos on my Plant City, Florida thread.
  21. Interesting question, I have modelled a prototype location but have compressed it by 40%, while I am happy to reduce the length of a factory unit to fit, I would not reduce the length of wagons or locos to fit, so have to run shorter trains. It would be really nice to run scale length, but then I think would I really like to have to look after such a big layout.
  22. Seems wrong to throw things away, when the older Ni Cad batteries in my Makita drill started to fad it was cheaper to buy a whole new drill than a replacement battery, maybe the new right to repair laws will help.
  23. Yes Chatham, train coast bound coming out of Fort Pitt Tunnel, soon to enter Chatham Tunnel, the bandstand, on top of the cliff is still there.
  24. This reminds me of the airport announcement, the reason your flight is late leaving is because it arrived late, I figured that much out myself. why did it arrive late, they would say because it left late!
