Here she is passing Dawlish just now, complete with headboard and a nice fanfare on the horns. Having seen these replace Class 45s, 46s, 47s and 50s on this stretch of line in my childhood, it was strangely emotional to see this last passing today.

Burton le Coggles Class 31 5640 down cartics Aug 71 J2761
Wouldn’t they be carflats rather than cartics? I always assumed cartics implied articulated vehicles, but I’m no expert.- 1

@Revolution Ben @Revolution Mike How are you planning on joining the segments of the Cartic-4 together? Hook and loop like the NGS kit or something else?

31135’s livery variation seems to have lasted quite a while as it pops up at Grantham in this video (about 22 minutes in) in 1987, still in this condition.- 4

Ok... 120 quid for two coaches... n gauge coaches. With the same running number?
This must be a mis-placed decimal yes?
This buyer is probably trying to capitalise while they can on those people that don’t know that another run of these coaches should be arriving in the coming weeks. As the new stock will be on sale for about three-quarters of the price this seller is offering, it doesn’t appear to be an excessive mark-up to me. But the new stock will have different running numbers which clearly makes them more valuable in some eyes. 🤔- 1

Misses the point - what these projects do is to enable getting to the airport by train easier. The vast majority of transport to/from Heathrow is by road. That's because for many folk, the train journey is pants. To/from central London is OK - as also the journey from Essex along the Elizabeth line now. From many other places, the journey takes forever. Result: people go by road, as I have done and still do for over 40 years.
Exactly. Heathrow operates at close to 100% of its theoretical capacity most of the time, so without a third runway (can’t see that ever happening) this rail link would not increase air traffic or passenger numbers. What it would do is reduce the large car park that the M4/M25 interchange becomes for large parts of the day.By the way, if the UK had a joined-up transport policy and had invested in domestic high speed rail links of the kind that exist in France and, to a lesser extent, Germany, air travel from London to places like Manchester, Newcastle, Liverpool, Glasgow and Edinburgh wouldn’t really be required.

In the mid 70’s a school friends elder sister was married to a BA second officer on the 747. I think he was one of the youngest, early 30’s, and it was a plumb job as they used to say twirling their moustache’s. He’d done well, gone through Hamble air training to 747 fleet pretty quickly and drove an E-type. His father was ‘someone’ in BOAC, and I suspect a waft of nepotism more than ‘assisted’ his career progression in those days!
Was his name Nigel?- 1

Dab is a specific species distinct from an illegally undersized plaice; delicious.
Indeed. Whilst the common dab (Limanda limanda) and European plaice (Pleuronectes platessa) are both flatfish, they aren’t even in the same genus.- 1
