  1. Blimey Paul, sounds like you've been listening to the Captain Kernow school or train running.. Nice work Morgan.
  2. Not sure how cheap it is but its a 3-pole rather than the usual 5-pole Hornby have used but they fitted a fly wheel to compensate slightly.
  3. Yes I really wish Kader would get what ever machine they inherited with the Sander Kan buyout and put it in the Bachmann factory. I don't know how much the better paint job would increase Bachmann prices towards Hornby ones but the lining really would be worth it. That last photo is interesting in showing how the skin of the tender has started showing up the internal bracing.
  4. Nice repaint, these scratchbuilds really were a great find to help with the loco stud on Barrow Road. Is it going to get a bit grottier before release into traffic too? Stick a nice Loksound in the tender now and its sorted .
  5. You can't stop at the buffer, you've got to model the rest of the wagon now The great thing about CAD based masters rather than manually made ones is that you can tell them to make one 4/7 of the size too.. If the material was quite there in an affordable way anyway . It is great fun once you've found a package and methodology you get on with.
  6. Hmm, i'll have to take a 9F apart sometime now to check for myself. I'd seen the reviews at the time mention it being there but haven't taken the top off for that yet.
  7. Modelzone actually list Tintagel as in stock online though at £119 i'm afraid and not the sale £79.
  8. With companies still trying to shift existing BR stocks of Castles for £79.99 i'd hope Hornby want to leave off a short while before doing some more. Sound chip in Kidwelly isn't bad though i'm stripping it out of mine for the eventual Mitchell build and will sell on Kidwelly without it. I found the 5013 class Castle GA in the NRM yesterday which will be useful too.

    Dapol Class 22

Dapol Dave can hopefully confirm but I believe this example from DEMU is already the 2nd Class 22 tooling after issues were noted with the initial go?

    Mk1 Horsebox

One of the guys at the K&WVR showed us the static unit they replaced that carriage with for heating trains and it was a much more effecient system. I guess that along with a very rusty body meant it made more sense to pass the u/f on to someone who had more use for it.
  11. Bachmann 9F definitely has a flywheel, I looked up a couple of reviews to check (easier than opening one up!)..
  12. Haven't stripped one down in a while but I thought the 9F had one? I prefer a decent motor to a flywheel as a DCC chip with back EMF tends to do the work better especially if you fit a capacitor too. I hope the lack of detail on this A1 is a one off to keep Tornado cheap and not a precedent. Carving handrails off things does normally need touch up work and the livery is one of the reasons to buy Hornby models.

    Dapol Class 22

The DEMU sample only got the the UK 7am on the Saturday and its not got any rivet detail added yet or the printing fixed. Don't think production batches are starting for a while yet. Not a prototype I know much about but the sample was impressive on the stand.
  14. Mine has the brake gear cut off the keeper on both sides and widened out with blocks of plasticard, saves you mucking up the screw holes holding the keeper plate on that way. I've not had chance to work on Pannier tank detailing yet but they really need new pull rods at least as the plastic ones are massive. Some new windows help too and they should be about soon.
  15. Hi Dave,Not sure how I managed to make them 2mm overlength as I measured them on a number of occasions during the build. I fully expected them to slot into place but on first trial the walls were clearly pushed out at the top. I think it must have been the cumulative effect of the solder on the square column pieces - ie 8 layers of solder, which I didn't factor in to the equation. I've had the problem of solder thickness come up on some of my etches and i've had to deal with it there. Incidentally if you click on the post number in a thread you get a link to that exact post. Saves people looking at the birdy hat pictures again . http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/16292-railex-2011/page__view__findpost__p__409839
  16. Indeed which was why i'd made the joke earlier about sending the CAD to the same bloke Lima took their drawings. He was obviously adamant they should be on the centre.. The resolution of the scan should have picked up the cab shape very well, i'd assume it was during the conversion stage that resolution has been lost.
  17. Cattle wagon out by a foot (4mm) at 19ft 6 long, see: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/11970-Bachmann-8t-cattle-wagon/page__st__25
  18. Doesn't the cattle wagon have an 11ft wb or something custom so its more a case of someone cocking up to get the length of that a bit off?
  19. I might have to have a look at this Bill Hudson shot at the club.. Sleepers are closer together near the joints on 24 sleeper 60ft panels.
  20. If they'd based it on an original wagon i'd have thought they'd have painted one accurately and not all as liveries for normal minerals.. Pretty sure its all down to them wanting to use one chassis. They only did a handful of chassis - 10ft morton, 10ft clasp, 12ft for minerals and tanks and the brake vans along with a couple of the oddities. Its probably a good thing they were wrong in hindsight as we ended up with better modern toolings along with the steel mineral (which you can't say was real I don't think as it was long with top doors which I don't think ever happened in the new builds).
  21. Not the bloke who did that to Lima too? I can't add anything to what the others have said. Was it scanned with the door open though meaning the gap at the top was missed at the time? Will see how people get on with the 22 and might get one of these in the future as a result.
  22. Length over headstocks will be the issue. Minerals were build 16'6 long not 17'6 and that will probably be the issue.
  23. AutoCAD is pretty useless for 3D work, you need the other products from Autodesk. Solidworks is far better as is NX and Catia, all are more expensive as well though I think!
  24. I've seen a larger scale wagon propelled horse (and a man too!) that looked ok but you'd be better off sticking to capstan shunting.. I must order some bits of them to put in a firebox to control the reverser and one in the tender to control the AJ.
  25. 3 nights 3 4:30am bedtimes, now that the etching is sent off im having an early one ready for work!
